The rumors about the upcoming Valentine's day announcement on the official Command & Conquer website, supposedly the announcement of Red Alert 3, are not rumors anymore. When contacted by Dutch website Tweakers.net, Electronic Arts has confirmed that the theme of this announcement will be Red Alert 3.

A Dutch quote from the original article:

QUOTE
Deze aankondiging zal in het teken staan van Red Alert 3, zo heeft EA tegenover Tweakers.net bevestigd.

The literal translation would be:

QUOTE
This announcement will be about Red Alert 3, EA has confirmed against Tweakers.net

The April issue of PCGamer is expected to carry additional details:

A Commercial Money Creating Superstorm of CnC Games is true! Ive been expecting this quick series of many CnC games in a row for a while since I heard about the Tiberium for the first time. Well I'm certainly happy to see that Red Alert 3 is coming.

They should announce Generals 2 in May then.... maybe the 2nd C&C 3 expansion in August. EA will soon be on a role....... Cash Cow this bitch into the ground until it even brings The Sims into the realm of Normality.

It's not that bad Saracen. You know yourself that EALA has two teams of RTS developers. One working on C&C3 right now, while the other team probably has been working on RA3 since Battle for Middle Earth 2: Rise of the Witch King (released December 2006). It takes them 2 years to make a RTS, so it will be done in December 2008. So maybe it will be released together with Tiberium, or one of them will be postponed until February 2009. Either way, the game will be released at least 18 months after C&C3. Just 6 months after an expasion, perhaps, but hey - that's just a timing thing.

It will be interesting to see which direction they take the RA series. Do they carry along the fast and frantic and humerous stylings of the RA2/YR story arc, or do they go back to the beginning and create another take on a sequel to the original RA.

RA2 will be hard to beat IMO as it was just so much god dam fun. Everything from the graphics to the voices/sayings to the actual unit designs themselves was great. I think the best thing about it was that the seriousness of it had been taken away. It's the complete opposite to the Tiberium story arc. Everything had to make sense in that, things had to have a plausable reason for being (pitbulls had to have a cab to keep the peeps safe from the tib etc etc). In RA2 things didnt have to make sense, and thats what made them fun. They were wacky, zaney, sometimes stupid (dolphins and squid), but they worked, and worked well.

Personally, I would like to see it follow the RA2 story and feel of things. But I will not be dissappointed if it sticks to the RA side as that too was great, and if it connects the dots to the Tib side of things then thats a bonus.

My two cents though.

It will indeed be interesting to see what direction they'll take in the story.
RA1 was serious, not much laughter. It followed the style of TibDawn very closely.
RA2 was comical, funny, and to me, it succeeded pretty well to present an entertaining story.

I've read that some say they'll bridge the universe, bla bla bla...
But by bridging the universe they can't simply retain the comical storytelling RA2 had, not fully at least.

Anyway, I'll be glad either way, but it will be a though nut to crack for EA.

The final question is: how will Yuri be able to chronoshift back? smile.gif

Yes, Westwood never released their C&C games this close together did they? Because we didn't have TiberianSun in 1999 and RA2 in 2000, with the firestorm in the middle did we? Whoops yes we did!

EALA can afford to do whatever they want, like release all of these CnC games at once. i almost pooed in my pants when i saw the headline RA3....im excited, for now just from sheer curiosity...

They should just make a new CnC series too, like something never seen before, like a WWI in the style of RA2/YR, with Austro-Hungarian demolition trucks and sentry drones that shoot laser.

Nope, EA have asked GameReplays to take the images of Red Alert 3 down. As part of respecting EA's request on the matter, I have removed the news post which show's off the screenshot(s) in question. Just proof really, I may have had a turbulent past with Apoc, but I know when certain rules have to be abided by. wink.gif

Unlike other sites we respect EA wishes. They don't want the screen shots and art posted so any trace of them has been removed for now.

Ok, I will go along with it. I just thought it would be alright since the magazine covers were posted on the front page.
