  1. On this day, 14 years ago, Westwood Studios released Command & Conquer Red Alert 2. A worthy follow up after Tiberian Sun and arguably the most popular of all the Command & Conquer games released over the years. Most fans would agree that entire franchise, from a storyline perspective, got messed up since Red Alert 2 was made by Westwood Pacific (later to be named EA Pacific), the same team who went on to make C&C Generals. While it was a sequel to Red Alert, it could not be considered a direct sequel in terms of continuing a story. It really was a entirely new alternate Red Alert universe. What do you remember the most about Red Alert 2? Share your Red Alert 2 memories, greatest online battles and even favourites parts from the single player campaigns with us in this news thread.
  2. Version 0.7 of the Ares DLL project has been released. This special DLL file is aimed at the modding community, it adds new features to Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Ares 0.7 fixes a few memory issues that were affecting all operating systems, but that had a habit of crashing on Windows 8. Check out the changelog below to find what is new in this release. Memory Management issues were resolved, which results in fewer crashes and better support for Windows 8. Hunter Seeker Super Weapon, Unit Settings and Side defaults Drop Pod Super Weapon and customizable Settings Several weapon additions like Splits and Airburst enhancements, Ranged and ProjectileRange, and BallisticScatter Warheads that prevent units to scatter when hit Civilian enemies attacked in multiplayer and smarter defense against civilian threats Loading themes for campaigns and multiplayer Score screen Graphics and Themes for campaign and multiplayer Aircraft customization with Smoke animations and Airstrike-related voices MakeInfantryOwner expanded to work with generic infantry death animations Teams can retaliate in case a member is attacked Passable structures units can drive on without side effects like the workarounds have Dimming deactivated units by reason for deactivation Damage sparks made customizable and enhanced to work with all types You can read more about Ares at the official site, where you will also find the download of this new version.
  3. A brand new wiki for the D-Day mod for Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge has been launched. Designed to show you everything that this mod has to offer, in wiki form of course. 4. I'm putting together a new feature for CNCNZ.com and it requires some input from you, the long time Command & Conquer fan. What you need to do is share with us your favourite, most memorable or simply the most awesome moment from any of the Command & Conquer games. The moment that makes you simile, laugh or think "now that was bad ass!". For example, it could be a scene stealing moment such as when Kane makes his announced appearance during the Soviet campaign in the original Red Alert. For me, it was such an unexpected moment, Kane barely says a word, but his presence was so powerful. So what's your favourite Command & Conquer moment? Or moments. Share them with us in this topic. It will also help if you include a screenshot and describe why you like the moment so much.
  5. Version 0.6 of the Ares DLL project has been released. This special DLL file is aimed at the modding community, it adds new features to Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Ares 0.6 is a service release focusing more on internal changes and improved stability than features. Check out the changelog below to find what is new in this release. Changelog: CellSpread enhancements Factory built by certain country Prerequisite Aircraft Carriers and Destroyers can cloak now and gain experience from their Spawns Tech Buildings can be returned to the Neutral country if owner defeated Exploit of Battle Fortress jamming charging defense structures fixed Helicopters can be made to animate their rotors if hovering in air Many minor fixes You can read more about Ares at the official site, where you will also find the download of this new version.
  6. Hey there guys, First of all, that seems like a great community, congrats! I'm definitely new on modding so I'm trying to explore and learn as many things possible. I've basically get started with editing rulesmd.ini file; added some features to Kirov and made Battle Bunkers garrisonable by Tesla Troopers etc. But since I'm unfamiliar with the "language" of the game, sometimes I have difficulties about understanding which code means what. I mean it's easy to check for a unit's speciality and copy it for another but sometimes there's no explanation for codes and I just can't understand them. Is there a index-like, map legend-ish database available for me to sit down and study? Thanks in advance, Cheers.
  7. Version 0.5 of the Ares DLL project has been released. This special DLL file is aimed at the modding community, it adds new features to Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. This new version adds several features from Tiberian Sun that have either been restored or enhanced. The big feature groups are Tiberium, with Tiberium Heal, Damage and many other related logics restored, and Cloak, with lots of customizable options. There are also many other long requested minor features have been implemented, like more AttachEffect options, side-specific engineers, and a way to treat all side-specific engineers or dogs as one type for Type Selection. You can read more about Ares at the official site, where you will also find the download of this new version.
  8. RainXc, the creator of CNC Minecraft, has posted an amazing Minecraft creation featuring Red Alert 2. Modeled after the first Allied mission, the build is a perfect copy of the entire map, minus the Allied and Soviet structures. If you have Minecraft, you can walk around the entire map, and see what the city is like from Tanya's point of view. To check out some more pictures and information, or to simply download the map for your own enjoyment, check out the page here.
  9. Version 0.4 of the Ares DLL project has released. This special DLL file is aimed at the modding community, it adds new features to Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Ares 0.4 adds the versatile AttachEffect, which allows you to change speed, armour and other properties for each unit it affects, for a certain amount of time or permanently. It also adds a bunch of minor additions and improvements. You can read more about Ares at the official site, where you will also find the download of this new version.
  10. For the past couple of days we have been asking fans to share a photo or photos of their Command & Conquer collections on our Facebook page. All of the games, T-Shirts and other memorabilia you have amassed over the years. We know there are many long time fans of the franchise so now we want you to show us. Show us how dedicated you are. We have already shared many of the photos from other Command & Conquer fans on the CNCNZ.com Facebook page for others see. Its proven rather popular so far. Head over there and check them out. If you have a collection you would like to share post it on our Facebook page, or just as a reply in this news thread. I'm now wondering if we can get any of the CNCNZ.com team to share their collection?

    CnCNet 5 released!

TL:DR version: CnCNet 5 is awesome! Took a long time to make and test! TS and RA2 not supported yet! Download here! After over a year of work and testing CnCNet 5 has finally been deemed stable enough for an official release! Compared to CnCNet 4, CnCNet 5 is coded from scratch and takes advantage of the online systems Westwood implemented into the games. CnCNet 5 has a external lobby system which gets rid of the old and buggy LAN lobby. No more games disappearing or glitches related to kicking people from the game. You can also say good bye to lag caused by the LAN netcode as previously hinted to CnCNet 5 makes use of the WOL netcode making games go smooth. CnCNet 5 works perfectly despite closed ports due to the improved tunnelling system which also lets multiple people in the same household play with people online. The CnCNet 5 lobby uses an IRC server which allows you to send private messages, make passworded lobbies game and to communicate with players. You can connect using a normal IRC client as well, but you won't have any game functionality. Currently CnCNet 5 supports Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Support for Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is in the works as is other Westwood Online enabled games, maybe even a game where you fight over a certain "waterless world". Below are a list of changes to the individual games: Command & Conquer - Over 160 maps to choose from by default. - New option: Auto Crush Infantry - New option: MCV Undeploy - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Over 430 maps to choose from by default. - Automatic transfer of custom maps - Choose starting location - Choose alliance - New option: Fix Formation Exploit - New option: Fix Range Exploit - 12 other new game options - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Iran is working on it with help from CCHyper! If you are interested in following development look here: http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=498086 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Needs a developer, if you are interested go to irc.freenode.net in the channel #cncnet. CnCNet 5 would not have been possible if it weren't for the hard work of hifi (backend), FunkyFr3sh (frontend) and Iran (tons of new features in the games). Features such as ladder etc will come soon. CnCNet provides ready to play versions of both Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
  12. Yesterday marked the 13th anniversary of the release of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. Released by Westwood Pacific on 26 October 2000, Red Alert 2 was the direct sequel to the Allied campaign of the first Red Alert. With 24 missions, 12 for each side, it was somewhat shorter than the previous games in the series, but that did not make it any less interesting or fun to play. Its unorthodox universe design is one of the key factors which makes players play it time and time again. Giant mind-controlled squids, bomber-zeppelins, king-size Tesla Coils... you name it, Red Alert 2 has it. Its sold copies were counted in millions, its player base always held multiplayer matches and tournaments, and is constantly brought back to life thanks to an amazingly large modding community. To this day, Red Alert 2 remained one of the most popular Command & Conquer games and no matter what the new game(s) will look like, it will be played and modified, along with its hit expansion, Yuri's Revenge. How will you remember Red Alert 2? Share your thoughts and memories with us in this thread.

  20. Over the last couple of weeks, Kotaku readers have been accumulating a list of The Classic PC Games You Must Play. For games to be part of this massive list, they had to meet some requirements - the game had to have been released in 2003 or earlier and must be legally purchasable. People who submitted games also needed to explain why they should be included, where you can get them, and tips to get them working on modern computers. And, of course, Command & Conquer games have been included. It wouldn't be a classic PC gaming list without our favourite franchise. These Command & Conquer games made the list... Command & Conquer: Generals Command & Conquer: Renegade Command & Conquer: Red Alert Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Just follow those links above, allow the page to load, to read about how these Command & Conquer games got included. If you're interested, check out the full list.
