  1. Its another edition of Throwback Thursday. This week, we pay tribute to arguably the best and most useful unit in C&C games, The Engineer. And the focus is the Soviet Combat Engineer from Red Alert 3 in 2008. Of course the Engineer is present in every C&C game in one forum or another, but the Soviet Combat Engineer from Red Alert 3 is probably the best example from them all. Armed with the usual abilities expected from any Engineer, along with the extra abilities of digging bunkers to garrison infantry, a nifty inflatable dingy to traverse over water and even a pistol for some defence. In the hands of a skilled player an Engineer, or even many of them, can deal some extreme damage. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. 2. This week's edition of Throwback Thursday continues with the the "Ladies of C&C" series. And its Jodi Lyn O’Keefe as Kelly Weaver from Red Alert 3: Uprising in 2009. Kelly Weaver was the tough as nails, take no crap spokesperson for the FutureTech Corporation, who frequently addressed the public regarding their concerns over FutureTech's research and development of military hardware for the Allies. 3. Can you believe it has been one whole year of our Throwback Thursday feature already? That's right every Thursday for the past year (except for one back in June 2015) we have been rolling back the clock and enjoying some of the coolest and most interest things spanning the entire C&C universe. To kick off the second year, lets look back at some hot chicks in the "Ladies of C&C" series. This week its Ivana Milicevic as Dasha Fedorovich in Red Alert 3 from 2008. Red Alert 3 was literately bursting at the seams with beautiful women, but I always thought Ivana Milicevic topped them all. And her character was actually important to the storyline, as she interacted with you, the Soviet Commander, setting up your missions. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. 4. Throwback Thursday this weeks goes back to the development days of Red Alert 3, in June 2008 to be exact. This is when EA pulled off a "switch-a-roo" with the Soviet Apocalypse Tank. When Red Alert 3 was first revealed, the original design of the Apocalypse Tank was not warmly received. It simply didn't look right at all with it's tiny gun barrels and lack of size. EA heard this and gave us the much more intimidating Apocalypse Tank that we now see in the game today. The new design featured huge gun barrels and much beefier body. Even the treads were emphasised. Red Alert 3 was fully of wacky unit designs for all the factions, but this is one I feel they nailed perfectly. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  5. Here's a cool fan made tribute to Red Alert. Well its all Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 3 footage. But set to an awesome song called "The Last Line of Defence", written and produced by Vladimir Kuznetsov of World Beyond. Check it out in the video above.
  6. The Generals Gentlemen posted another video in their "What Makes RTS Games Fun" series just a few days ago. This one discusses micro and unit differentiation, featuring Tiberium Wars, Red Alert 3, C&C Generals and other RTS games. Watch the video above.
  7. This week's choice for Music Monday is one of the overlooked the tracks from the Red Alert 3 soundtrack. Its the "Red Alert 3 Credits" music. A powerful piece of music this one, mixed in with it's Russian theme are heavy guitars and the all male choir singing the chorus. The 1.41 mark is my favourite part of the song. Why was this relegated to the ending credits? This is some bad ass music to end the game with. A new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  8. Throwback Thursday returns this week with a new logo and one of the big surprises in Red Alert 3 from 2008. Complete the Allied campaign in Red Alert 3 and you're treated to a cameo appearance by the one and only David Hasselhoff. From a guy who drove around in a cool black talking car, to a California lifeguard surrounded by beautiful women, he ends up being the Vice President in a video game. While it was a surprise to see "The Hoff" appear in the game, it really shouldn't have been. Anyone remember the insanely funny video series he did to promote Red Alert 3? Hmm... that's good RTS!
  9. New to CNCNZ.com. Starting this week, each Monday becomes Music Monday. We share our favourite tracks from the lengthy archives of soundtracks from all of the Command & Conquer games. Perhaps your favourites will show up. This week, its the "The Red Menace" from the Red Alert 3 soundtrack. This one is signature Frank Klepacki. Hardcore metal, perfect for the battlefield. A new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  10. We are going back to multiple years for this week's Throwback Thursday. Many of the Command & Conquer games began life with a different logo to what see on the box covers for them today. During the alpha/beta stages of development of the original Command & Conquer in 1994, the game featured a slightly different logo. We don't know what made Westwood change it though. Fast forward to 1999/2000, Red Alert 2 was announced featuring an odd looking logo, it was soon changed one that matched the first Red Alert logo. In 2001, Yuri's Revenge was announced with a simplistic looking design, this was also changed later to fit with the Red Alert 2 style. In 2006 when Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Was was revealed, EA used a very different looking C&C logo, with a modernised twist and a big green stylised number 3 behind it. The logo was redesigned some months later and looked much better. In 2008, Red Alert 3 was announced sporting a very eye catching logo, complete with backwards lettering to go with the game's Russian artwork theme. The logo was changed to a more simple looking one though. But I think it would have been cool to keep the first one. Of all these unused logos for C&C games, which one looks the best to you? Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  11. Thanks to XfactorGaming on YouTube for uploading this. It looks like a cool Red Alert 3 Easter Egg has been discovered in Battlefield 4. Watch the video above to see it. I guess there are people within EA who still care about Command & Conquer after all.
  12. Right now you can get up to 75% off all Command & Conquer Games that are available on Steam as a part of the Steam Exploration Sale. A good time to grab a bargain at these prices. 13. Its Throwback Thursday time once again, continuing with our theme of looking at the famous actors who have appeared in Command & Conquer games. This week we go back to Red Alert 3 in 2008 featuring Gina Carano as Natasha Volkova, better known as the Soviet Commando. EA promoted her as one of the stars of the game's cast, but when it was all said and done, her role wasn't that significant. Gina Carano first came to fame as the face of women's MMA, dominating her opponents. She also appeared as "Crush" on the revamped 2008 television series American Gladiators. She has gone on to star in some movies such as Haywire and Fast & Furious 6. In 2016 she will appear in the new Deadpool movie as Angel Dust. She was the right pick to be Natasha Volkova in Red Alert 3, she looked the part, but she was so under-utilised in the story. Perhaps there were too many actors in that game. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  14. Thanks to @Kevin69Ghost on Twitter for sharing this great looking artwork that he made of the Empire of the Rising Sun's Rocket Angel from Red Alert 3. So feel free to share any C&C fan art links with us.

  18. Its a little bit different for Throwback Thursday this week. Jumping back to 3 different time periods, its a Triple Tanya Throwback. We have had Special Agent Tanya appear in 3 Red Alert games, plus expansions, but the character has been portrayed by 3 different actresses. Kari Wuhrer as Tanya in Red Alert 2 from 2000 has always appeared to be the most popular. When Red Alert 3 was announced, there was a push from the community and fans for EA to get Kari Wuher back again. But EA had already long since cast Jenny McCarthy to take over the part. I think it still worked just fine. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  19. Its Throwback Thursday time once again. For this week I thought we should go back and look at one of the April Fools jokes that EALA posted. The Mammoth Tank pops up in every Command & Conquer game in one form or another. But this time it really is a "Mammoth" Tank. The cool thing about this joke is the fact that they released the source files for modders to download so they could add it to the game as a real unit. That's how April Fools jokes should be done. Check back next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  20. GameReplays.org will be hosting a Red Alert 3 tournament on February 14th at 14:00 GMT. There have been some new maps created by the community to enlarge the rather small competitive map pool, so this tournament will be played on them to try them out in a competitive environment. Some of them are new, while some are ported from Uprising. Click here for the full set of rules, map links and installation instructions.
  21. Two GameReplays tournaments will take place on Sunday, January 25th. The first one is the Kane's Wrath Vanilla Mania 1v1 tournament (12:00 GMT), which will be played using 1.02+ mappacks. As the title suggests, subfactions are not allowed and only the main factions (vanilla GDI, Nod and Scrin) are available for choosing. The second one is the Red Alert 3 Dual Duel #1 (2v2) tournament (14:00 GMT), which will be played on stock maps, 1.12.2 bugfixed maps and two new ones. The Dual Duel #1 tournament also has an option of donating to the prize pool, which is not necessary to participate. You can check out the rules and information for the Kane's Wrath Vanilla Mania tournament here and the Red Alert 3 Dual Duel #1 tournament here.
  22. The CnCMaps.com website, which used to hold many fan-made maps for C&C games from Generals to Tiberian Twilight, was closed in the summer of 2013 after its administrator lost the time and motivation to maintain it. Two weeks ago, though, he decided to save much of the lost material by collecting all the maps that were sent over the years and uploaded them to the Microsoft OneDrive service for everyone to download. You can check out this vast archive by clicking here.

    C&C Online News

Greetings Generals! We are pleased to announce that statistics recording and, for the very first time in the games' histories, automatic 1v1 ranked ladders have been enabled for Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour on C&C:Online. Statistics are now being recorded and display to players in each game as they did under GameSpy. Those statistics, along with a live display of 1vs1 ladder standings are available on Shatabrick. There are plans to display the ladders and statistics on other sites, including the C&C:Online web site and on GameReplays. Presently, ladders and statistics are available only to GenTool users. Statistics recording (but not ladder access) may be made available to non-Gentool users in the future. The ladders in both games are operating a simplified Elo system, where a variable number of points are awarded or deducted for a win or a loss, based on the number of points held by each player. Presently, thirty three points are awarded or deducted for a win or loss between players holding an equal number of points, varying between a minimum of five points and a maximum of sixty points, depending on the points difference between the players. In Zero Hour, the ladder is presently restricted to 1vs1 games played on the official 1vs1 maps, although we intend to extend the map pool in the near future in consultation with players. There are currently no restrictions on the maps which may be played in Generals. For the future, there are plans to add a 2vs2 ladder, a clan ladder and match histories. Unsuspecting players have been competing on the ladders for the last few days now but we'll be resetting the ladders in both games on 14 September so players have a fresh chance to scrabble to the top by the end of the month. After that, we'll be resetting the ladders monthly and will be looking at holding a competition for the top ladder players at the end of each month. So Generals, watch out for the reset and get ranking! View the Generals 1v1 ladder View the Zero Hour 1v1 ladder
  24. Another significant update for C&C: Online has arrived with the long awaited return of the 1v1 and 2v2 ranked ladders for Tiberium Wars, Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. To take advantage of the new ladders you will need download and install version 2.0.6 of the updated launcher from the C&C: Online site. More details about the new ladders can be found in this topic in our Community News forum.
