Another Forum Upgrade Completed

Recommended Posts

Like the last time a topic like this was posted. Our forums have been offline for the past hour or so while we performed a forum software upgrade. This was just a stability and maintenance update. There are no major changes to mention.

However, there two things you might want to check out.

The forums should be working as normal but if you notice something odd please post about it here.

All dates have been set to the annoying American MM/DD/YYYY format! Noooooooo.....

That's not what I see. Look harder. Are the dates displaying incorrectly for you. Post a screen shot if you can.

I set all dates to be DD/MM/YYYY. That's how we do it in New Zealand ;) Look at the very last date, its 17/07/2012. Not 07/17/2012. The short date format was displaying as 09 Thu 2012 before, I just changed a few settings today.

Yeah, but we do it right. Everyone else is clearly doing it wrong.

Looking at the Top 10 Topics (By Views), I still can't believe my 185 Generals/ZH mission map pack thread (formerly 3000+ generals/ZH map pack) is in the top ten with over 84700+ views.

Looking at the Top 10 Topics (By Replies), the threads Hurt/Heal, Word Association Game, Weather report and What did you do today? are no longer being discussed. I wish someone brings out a new weather report thread again, yet the weird thing is that the similar discussion is still happening on status updates. I am not the only one here who still loves to talk about weather.

Looking at the Top 10 posters in this forums, Cygnus X-1 no longer comes here, Malevolence is suspended and Saracen comes here on limited occasions. Acerz492, which also has a high post count no longer comes here.

Instead of cluttering status updates, why don't you start a new (and assuredly boring) weather topic if you really want one?

We can just continue posting in the old one. Cygnus X-1 follows us on Facebook and comments there every now and then.

Oh, and since the latest update, Central European-specific symbols do not display properly. For every c with an acute I get ć

Well I never knew they were displaying correctly before, probably because I don't use them. But I'll look into it. No sure what I should be checking though.

They did. Look at the Olympics thread where I mention Sandra Perkovic (her surname ends with a c with an acute) - that was before the update. I think it's the encoding - if you put it to Central European (ISO-8852), we Central/Eastern Europeans can once again PM ourselves.

The encoding is a global forum wide setting, if I change it specifically for one group it could cause problems with others. Its currently set on UTF-8.

As you can see it is strongly recommended. It was set to ISO-8859-1, so I changed it to UTF-8, there is no difference.

UPDATE: Changed back to ISO-8859-1, when set to UTF-8 some of the AJAX features stop working.

Ć - nope. Never mind then

Have you tried browser specific character encoding settings? Perhaps its something you can change so things display better for you.

Its an odd thing. I'm guessing it could have something to do with the way the Post Editor works though. Because I see the characters with the acutes on them in the Post Editor window but once the post is submitted they display as garbage, as you have seen.

The good thing is once IPB 3.4 arrives the Post Editor is getting a big coding rewrite so perhaps something will improve then http://community.inv...r-improvements/

And hey, the IPS official forums use ISO-8859-1 so we must doing something right here ;)

Oh well. It isn't that much of a big deal, so if the update solves it - goody, and if not - we'll just move on.
