Daily C&C Trivia

Recommended Posts

the C&C community went crazy when they watched the music video.

Must have happened elsewhere in the community, because it sure didn't happen here. All we did is determine Lady Gaga is an unidentifiable lifeform.

GENERALS 1 GLA AIRCRAFT

Gen_alpha_gla_plane.jpg
Victory Games was not the first studio to come to the idea of GLA aircraft. Westwood did so in the rare 2002 trailer for Generals 1 shown below. Go to the 0:57 mark to see the GLA version of the Me 262.

GLA has always had aircraft, they don't have a buildable aircraft factory. The Generals powers, such as the Anthrax Bomb, are brought in on GLA aircraft.

I remember one time here in the forums, I created a thread about the "one cup Tiberium" spoiler which resulted in Luk3us developing a poll question (which I had no clue what it means) and then later locked the thread after the poll was done.

IMO I don't think she is a monster and an alien from outer space.

I don't know what this "spoiler" you mention was. Luk3us didn't start the poll, I did, and he locked it when it started getting spammed with an image war. I'm fairly certain (s)he is in fact a monster or an alien from outer space.

To be specific, it was Westwood Pacific (later EA Pacific) who came up with these ideas in the early days of Generals' development. About this time Westwood Vegas were finishing the likes of Renegade and then heading towards the end of their run.

Justin Bieber's music IMO is more horrible than Gaga's. Also I doubt that she's a guy.

Now back on topic.

For GLA aircraft that existed back then, I wonder how come EA Pacific didn't put it in the first place when C&C Generals came out.

Well, I didn't want to overcomplicate things :P But wasn't Westwood Pacific busy with Tiberian Incursion?

For the same reason Westwood cut Hind Transports and Hydrofoils in Red Alert 2 :P

Westwood/EA Pacific only did Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge and then of course moved on to Generals. Everything else was all at Westwood Vegas.

TIBERIAN SUN E3 FOOTAGE

No comment on these. Just sit back, enjoy, and notice how many things've changed. Unfortunately, the videos are in German and the uploader didn't subtitle them.

I remember Tiberian Sun was likely one of the first computer games to have public advertisement in my country. It was highly unusual to see something like an ad for a game on the side of a public transport bus.

Whoa :o Would've liked if things like that existed here. Sadly, gaming is mostly ignored by our media and advertisers :(

I'm not surprised. Why would they spend money on advertising in a country that has historically been one of the worst offenders of video game piracy? If the games aren't being paid for anyway, advertising them would probably only lose them even more money.

I mean no offense to the country of course, only stating what is factual.

Eastern Europe in general shows absolutely no uneasiness with the concept of piracy. It's just something that has entered our mentality - if someone has a friend who has some album, movie or game, it's completely normal to ask "Could you burn this for me?". Sure, there was one case last year when the police caught a few guys near my town pirating Windows and Call of Duty (amateurs, lol), but that is very, very, very rare.

Although I mentioned the entire Eastern European region has this "issue", certain publishers do in fact have their offices in countries like Russia (e.g. EA, or at least they had by 1998), so I wouldn't quite call your theory completely factual.

Where's Brazil in that list?

EDIT: The fact that you linked to a website oriented solely on Croatia intrigues me :o

Jehal gets advertising for games, you don't, so the only countries that were relevant were Denmark and Croatia. I have seen Brazil in the top ten for software piracy in general, but I cannot find any specifics for them on just video game piracy. Games make up less than 10% of all software pirated in total.

I mentioned Brazil because I doubted that list was trustworthy. But yes, we do pirate a lot. However, I've seen more US pirates in torrent peer lists than Croatian ones.

Games make up less than 10% of all software pirated in total.

You quite sure? I'd say that if movies and series are the first in the affected-by-piracy list, games are second.

But I believe we've digressed enough so far.

I'd say that if movies and series are the first in the affected-by-piracy list, games are second.

Your guess is actually very close, but the number one pirated thing is porn. Movies and shows are next and games follow right after them, but by the time you get to games, the first three items have already taken up over 85% of the total. Here's an infographic I found with those numbers and more if you're interested.

But I believe we've digressed enough so far.

Indeed. On the other hand, you created this topic to get some discussions going, did you not?

I did, but I didn't want it to stray off-topic that much.

PRE-RELEASE RA3 CHARACTER APPEARANCES
13723622941005887_10151527797422572_1563
This is what Prince Tatsu was originally supposed to look like. This image was posted a few days ago on the official C&C Facebook page along with other Red Alert 3 character cards that certain community members could obtain with their actors' autographs. Instead of Ron Yuan, Tatsu was played by Shin Koyamada.

Believe it or not, this was the original Oleg. His name is unknown, but somehow, CnCSaga.com was able to snatch this picture and get away with it. Here's the statement from EA:

Hey Pierre,

Where did you guys get that image from? That's an actor we originally cast to play the role of Oleg Vodnik, but he never made it into the final game. He didn't really work out for us, so we cast Dimitri Diatchenko instead.

We had used Dimitri about a year earlier for a very early test shoot that we did for RA3, and we didn't think the actor pictured above did as good a job as Dimitri did for us originally, so we re-cast Dimitri.

I hope that answers your question.

SPECIAL GERMAN RA1 SOUNDTRACK DISC
WEB_CHEMIN_12087_1332186598.jpg
There was a unique two-disc soundtrack pack for Red Alert 1 in Germany. The first one was identical to the one shipped with the RA1 Special Edition worldwide, but the second was a compilation of commercial songs by various artists. These include:

  • Ugly Mustard - Twist and Shake (live
    )
  • Girls Under Glass - Burning Eyes (live
    )
  • Violent Vision - Pleasure of Sin [Remix] (original
    )

Waves to CBCPT for mentioning this thread in episode 21!

TOP FIVE C&C VIDEOS
Sorted by view count, these are the top 5 most viewed C&C videos on Youtube:

  • Red Alert 3 Launch Trailer (3.644.923) via Machinima
  • Hell March 2 (3.476.455) via hapokas112
  • Hell March (2.601.625) via hapokas112
  • Red Alert 3 Remix (2.237.789) via EA
  • Soviet March (2.123.597) via OMGClanChannel
And here are the top 5 community-made C&C videos:

It seems Red Alert 3 is not as unpopular as it might seem at first glance, while the community seemingly only needs to make Hell March covers and gameplay videos of oldies to get high view counts.

GDI AA VEHICLE IN TIBERIAN DAWN
iqQTbro.png
A cutscene in Tiberian Dawn, which is also found in the game's trailers, shows a GDI AA vehicle attacking an Apache gunship that is about to destroy it. This vehicle was never seen in the game itself, however. It is most likely the Italian SIDAM 25, which saw the light of day in the real world in 1987.

Spotted by Nuno Placido.
