Command & Conquer to Return With a New Studio?

Recommended Posts

In a short article on EA's Customer Service Help site, our first clue to the future of the Command & Conquer franchise may have been found. The help article explains what people can do to get any money they have spent, on the now cancelled Command & Conquer alpha, refunded. But it also says that people who purchased Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection, will still get early beta access once production resumes under a new studio.

After much deliberation and feedback from the closed alpha test period, the current version of Command & Conquer is no longer being produced.

Over the next 10 days we will be refunding any and all money spent in the alpha. If, after November 8, 2013, you still have not received refunds for your purchases, you should contact a game advisor and we will be happy to assist you.

For those of you who bought The C&C Ultimate Collection, your early access to the beta will be honored once production of this title resumes under a new studio.

We would like to thank you for your time and interest in Command & Conquer, and we look forward to sharing the news with you when production resumes on this title in the future.

There is already some rumour and speculation that Command & Conquer has already been given to a new studio. Presumably another one within EA. But of course we can't confirm this right now.

Getting real tired of all this... I'd rather they just shut up and continue with the C&C franchise after they get their heads on straight. Lets hope they actually give the next game a proper title this time... IF they really intend on making one.

This is not unusual. Remember how we got beta keys for a "future C&C" back when RA3 Premier Edition was released? And remember how weird the logo for that was? That was the key for C&C Arena. They just transferred that to C&C 4 when Arena was cancelled.

yeah, i bought this crap so i could play CnC Generals 2, and that was now cancelled.

then they send me a 2000 points gift to play Tiberium Alliances (the turnbase online facebook like crap game), and now they are making as fools again for the "future" project of CnC..........................:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

So there is a spark of life in the old girl yet... look out for the facebook version to come out exclusively on iOS in the near future.

"(...) will be honored once production of this title resumes under a new studio"

The interesting news here is that it at some point will be resumed. The great question is "when?". I suspect a Blizzard sort of soon to be the answer to that question.

To be honest, I'd love to see more official support to projects like OpenRA and PortableRA. In general I'd love if a studio where given the opportunity to optimize or redevelop an older C&C title. I am particularly thinking in the same direction as what recently happened to Age of Empires II HD which actually got an official expansion about a week ago.

I truly believe the older C&C titles still have a whole bunch of potential on today's market if optimized properly. A friend and I discovered that last week when we sat up playing C&C1 on OpenRA all night thinking "this is actually still a better experience than many new games out there".

The rumour I heard was that everything Victory Games was working on is now in the hands of DICE LA. No idea how much truth there is to thus but you never know. It seems like a logical move.

DICE LA? I did expect that earlier as they are the only studio (that is formerly EALA) along with the original DICE to develop the Frostbite 3 engine to create Battlefield 4 and some other games. A C&C game developed by DICE is the last hope for C&C, not Bioware. Bioware used to work with VG before they broke up.

So I guess that my alpha key I received from someone (who is kind enough to give away) could be of good use in the future too soon.

However I found several rumor articles about this:

http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/32716-command-conquer-will-return-with-a-new-studio/

and

http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/32733-command-conquer-in-the-hands-of-bioware/

and

http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/32730-is-ea-working-on-command-conquer-right-now/

Edit: I guess Parture was right earlier about having a cancelled game (with some progress and an alpha release) about to get picked up by another gaming studio.

Oh god...not this crap again...well looks like were in for another crazy ride. I heard it is being taken over by the "social" wing of Bioware, I hope that is not true. Social=crappy mobile/facebook game (i.e. Tiberium Alliances). My only hope for anything optimistic is that they take what they did for Generals 2 and build off that and also make it NOT a F2P game and an actual retail product. Anything short of that and this will be the same **** all over again.

EA Management will not put any C&C game on facebook as it was attempted early on behind the scenes in Tiberium Alliances infancy (early development stages) and didn't perform well in the prototype phases. No matter what browser you use for TA right now you get sudden FPS drops as it is.

I can already smell the future version of today's microtransactions... EA doesn't learn from their mistakes. They don't care. They only make fake attempts to make fans/consumers/gamers temporarily forget everything they did that made things worse. They'll always put monetary gain before the joy and fun of gaming itself, so I'm not going to get my hopes up this time since they've clearly proven what they're capable of doing (in a negative manner) to both C&C and everything else they touch.

That's old news and none of can be confirmed. As some of the wording from that support post is copy & paste job from the main C&C page cancellation announcement. EA has told me one thing and an complete outsider tells me something different.
