The official June release of OpenRA has been made available for download. This another big release with a huge amount of changes. A video preview showcasing this new version has also been posted.

A brief summary of the key changes are:

  • Significant UI improvements for selecting mods, the game lobby, replays, and spectating.
  • Dramatic load-time improvements.
  • Beacons for signalling team-mates and observers, and viewing the status of support powers.
  • Aircraft and helicopters can now attack-move, guard, and be guarded by ground units.
  • Vehicle husks can now be destroyed or captured.
  • The RA mod now includes the Phase transport and a new Soviet Hijacker infantry.
  • The D2K mod now includes concrete, the Grenadier, and a collection of graphical improvements.
  • The TD mod received a collection of balance improvements, and several new maps.
  • Our Tiberian Sun mod saw significant development, but will not be ready for several more months.

Visit the OpenRA site for the download.

Do people play Tiberian Dawn and Dune mods online? I have seen players only in the base Red Alert mod.

That is one of the reasons we added the mod chooser to highlight them, too.

So the person in the video called it "OpenRA", pronouncing the "RA" part. All this time I thought it was "OpenR-A". pronouncing the "R" and "A" as letters.

I imagine most people pronounced it Open-R-A, but I kind of like Openra... I might have to change the way I pronounce it...

Ha - I never thought about that - but I always called it "open - rah" pronouncing the sound not the letters. Always. I guess I'm crazy.

- say what you mean  -  mean what you say  -  don't say it mean  -

- everything said must be true - not everything true must be said -
