PurpleGaga27 37 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) I want to use system restore with NIS 2012 installed, however I found this clue but it didn't work for me back then (not even now): http://community.norton.com/forums/system-restore-tip-new-users It had no effect. Back then when I used Norton Internet Security 2009 it was a very useful antivirus/antispyware/firewall program but one major drawback is the prevention of using the system restore feature in Windows. Now this goes the same issue with NIS 2012. Even though I could uninstall NIS 2012 and then use Norton Removal Tool, the system restore function in Windows (no matter which Windows OS I use) still doesn't work because the Norton files are still hiddenly functional inside even when uninstalled. The reason why I am asking this is because my hard drive is probably hijacked with hidden malware (that none of the antispyware programs detected), my PC has a very dusty inside case that is only half-cleaned up, and a hanging response to the hard drive (like as if everything froze including keyboard and mouse). But my 320 GB Western Digital HD is only 6-7 years old. I also tried defragementing the entire partitions of the hard drive and nothing changed. Doctor Destiny 40 Posted November 11, 2014 DBAN your drives, reinstall Windows and quit using ****ing NORTON. Share this post Link to post
Plok 319 Posted November 11, 2014 Also, if you noticed, the Symantec website constantly tells you to disable System Restore prior to attempting to clean any virus/malware/whateverware for some reason. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 40 Posted November 11, 2014 You should. System Restore can, and will, retain infected files. If you System Restore infected files onto a cleaned system, what do you think will happen? You'll just get infected over and over again. Disable System Restore, don't use Norton and just create an image of your install after you start it fresh and get it setup. Faster and easier honestly. Plok 319 Posted November 12, 2014 Yeah, but it can undo non-virus damage. Saved my old rig once or twice. Share this post Link to post
