Throwback Thursday for 19th November

For Throwback Thursday this week we are going back to Yuri's Revenge from 2001 and featuring the Slave Miner, a unique unit for Yuri’s Psychic Army. Yuri took a different approach to collecting ore, rather than the traditional Ore Refinery and Harvester/Collector used by the Allies and Soviets, Yuri sped up the process by deploying a Slave Miner next to ore fields, Slaves would then shovel ore into the Slave Miner and it would refined into credits without the need to return to a refinery. The Slave Miner is also considered unique in that it is a vehicle and a structure (but not both at the same time), meaning that it can be built from both the Construction Yard (where it is deployed as a building) and the War Factory. While Yuri's ore collection process was better it had disadvantages. The Slaves were slow and if their Slave Miner was destroyed, the Slaves would essentially be freed and then fight against Yuri's by joining forces with their liberators.

Remember, you can click on the preview above to see a larger and more detailed image. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

Man... haven't thought about them in a long time.

That's what snipers are for!

I really loved how the harvesters were truely unique for each side and not just different skins.

C&C3 harvesters kind lost the simplicity of the idea when they had to make so many different variations for the factions.

Not sure what you mean... there were only three harvesters, GDI's had a gun, Nod's were cloaked, while Scrin's healed in tiberium and hovered.

The ZOCOM one had rockets,the Steel Talons one had an infantry bunker, the Black Hand one was without stealth and the Reaper-17 one had a shield generator. Kane's Wrath only, though.

Slave Miners OP. If the enemy didn't push anti-infantry, these guys were pretty damn efficient. So efficient they had a price increase in 1.001 :D

Totally forgot about those...

Though it was kind of lame that the Marked of Kane and Traveler-59 didn't get their own unique variants when all the others did.

I find it more lame that the regular Scrin/Traveler-59 Harvester and Black Hand Harvester had the exact same price as the rest of them, but were completely defenseless. And the prices for Harvesters in Kane's Wrath were changed twice.

Well the Black Hand harvester did have increased harvesting speed to make up for its lack of stealth.

Can't actually check that for now, but the data from 1.02 XML files states that the Black Hand one has 200 HP more than the standard Nod one. Thanks for making me look :)

EVA Database should probably mention that then.

Although +200 is only +4% over the 5000 standard, which is fairly insignificant, but if it harvests faster too, it may be balanced enough.

I like the old ra2 days

I recall that other disadvantage that Miner had was if you against other Yuri player, since Yuri's support weapon have the ability to turn all the slaves into mutants

C&C3 harvesters were fine imo (don't forgot that in ver 1.00 scrin harvester would spawn a ion storm iirc, they removed that one pretty fast but you can find it in the xml iirc)

Compared to ra2 and KW, ra3's collelctots were the real disappointed imo

But that game didn't really went with the same harvest field method so I guess that the best fit they found in short time

Just found my way to the 1.02 XML values for the Nod and BH harvesters in WrathEd. They both have a speed value of 75.

Sorry, thought you meant general speed. I'd need to dive in far further :D But, I think that the multiplayer community didn't notice any differences to the Nod one, so...

Goes both ways, too. And the player can mutate his own should the need arise (as they're practically free of charge and are replaced fast), though Brutes aren't that great on their own ;)

I'm just going off the EVA Database entry:

The Black Hand utilizes the same harvesters as the rest of Nod forces, but due to the absence of stealth technology at the end of the Firestorm Crisis, they were developed without stealth generators. For this reason, they harvest faster than their counterparts from other Nod branches.

WrathEd seems to say no:

BH:

HarvestActivationRange="26"
HarvestPreparationTime="0.5s"
HarvestActionTime="1.7s"

Nod:

HarvestActivationRange="26"
HarvestPreparationTime="0.5s"
HarvestActionTime="1.7s"

Don't believe everything you hear on the EVA Database, lots of idiots typing things they don't actually know (that particular thing was made by an unlogged user in January 2014). I haven't managed it in a long time, sadly, and when I get to it this winter, I'll disable unlogged editing. Just have to figure out how.

Yea, that why most people found themselves using it on enemy slaves as it was more effective : p

Sorry I didn't reply on the Harvester's matter, I sort of recall that their speed didn't had any changes to it, the HP did changed iirc, don't recall how it was on ver 1.00 though... may check it later

GDI's sub-faction on the other hand Do have different harvest speed, most people see it as a bug and changed it for balance sake (like what I and One vision modder done)

But I don't think it actually a bug since EA never said it was one... we can't know if they made it on purpose
