This is how the PC will die

Recommended Posts

I can't believe Intel, AMD and Qualcomm are making the devil move restriction policy with Microsoft, that all future chips and PCs starting in 2016 must use Windows 10 and higher. If you try to use Windows 7/8.1 and/or even older versions of Windows, the new CPUs won't let you install any one of those OSs. It could get worse with Nvidia and AMD video cards if newer video cards must also use Windows 10 as a minimum requirement to go along with newer CPUs and motherboards.

This might piss off some PC gamers, and not to mention that some will probably not upgrade/buy a new PC because of those restrictions unless they still stick to Windows 7/8.1. But no one even mentioned Android, Linux, SteamOS and MacOS X. I wonder how those other OSs will work with those future Intel CPUs, not unless you use a virtual OS program like VirtualBox and VMWare. At least Microsoft still supports virtual machines for free download: https://dev.windows.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/windows

And how will all this make the PC itself die, Mr. Sensationalist?

It's totally rational for them to do that. If there isn't any driver available anyway there is no point in installing the OS (you wont be able to really use it). Also you don't want your graphics being set back again like it was the case with WinXP where people didn't upgrade thus games had to be made for the outdated DX9 and x86 for ages.

Also if you even read the article and not just the headline it's about Windows/Microsoft itself, not the manufacturer of the device.

Even when this was posted, it was old news. You can't support old operating systems forever or you'll never actually move forward.
