Throwback Thursday for 28th January

For Throwback Thursday this week we go back to Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath from 2008. Featuring the return of the Titan and the Wolverine. Since EA had a lot of plot holes and contradictions to patch up after Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, it actually worked rather well because we got to see two of the popular GDI units from the Tiberian Sun era make their return. Both units were part of the GDI Steel Talons sub faction. The Steel Talons specialised in using untested technologies on the battlefield, it seemed odd to be using older tech like the Titan and Wolverine. But these were not same Titans and Wolverines, these are their Mk II variants, packing a bit more punch than their original counterparts.

Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

I remeber how excited I was back then when I saw their trailer

(Well it actually didn't was the trailer I posted but I can't find it ^^)

There were also two videos which showed other models/their models before whoever was in the art section decided they go through small re-design to fit the game engine

These two trailers always were a mystery for me

Altho i like the wolverine and titan, i dislike the unit design in KW. Typicaly designed by someone with a art degree and clueless about how much stress a big ****ing cannon can put on flimsy mechanical joints. Some of the community designed titans and wolverines look alot better and more feasable imho.

golan's titan for example:

or the TE titan...

or the Tiberium apocalypse titan

Altho most of those titans would still blow their socket out when firing a 120 mm gun of sorts..atleast it looks less flimsy then the KW version

Well, if you want to get all nitpicky about it, virtually all mechs in all areas of fiction are unrealistic, ignoring the extremely high level of stress that would be put on joints.

I also disliked the KW versions, but just because I think they are uglier than TS's versions.

In a way for something like a mech a smaller caliber cannon with recoil compensation and a high refire speed would be better then a 120mm cannon. a 30mm armorpiercing+explosive+incendiary would be just as destructive if not more against reactive armor.

Well to be fair, it seeems that the models for Titan and Wolverine were made for CnC Arena, they just reused them for KW because of fan demand.

But yeah, the models kinda sucked.
