14 Fictional Presidents Who are Better Choices than Trump or Clinton

The Blaze have picked 14 Presidents from works of fiction who are probably more realistic choices than the 2016 candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, for this year's US elections. And of course there is a Command & Conquer twist to this news. As both President Howard T. Ackerman played by J.K. Simmons in Red Alert 3, and President Michael Dugan played by Ray Wise in Red Alert 2 have been chosen.

14. President Howard T. Ackerman in “Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3,” played by J.K. Simmons.

Quote: “Yes we can. We can hope. We can dream. But when we wake up, you’ll see that the only candidate ready for the future is me. The future is coming, it’s coming and it’s gonna bring a force of armored Kodiak Bears, attack blimps, and a lot of weaponized robots that’ll turn hope into a 4 letter word. If you want hope, keep dreaming. If you want change, put out your cup. If you want freedom, vote for me.”

Ackerman is a patriot, but he’s also a shameless populist self-aggrandizing war monger. Which essentially makes him an early 21st century neo-conservative. And he’s completely insane…. Did I mention that?

13. President Michael Dugan in “Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2,” played by Ray Wise.

Quote: “You can’t threaten us! We’re the mightiest nation on Earth!… We did win the war, you know.”

Dugan is the president who thought propping up a puppet communist regime in the Soviet Union was a good idea and was shocked when they betrayed him… yup, total Democrat.

Harrison Ford as President James Marshall in “Air Force One"? Oh, my goodness, if the force is still with him, he would have been POTUS already. :P

As for Ackerman and Dugan, great choices too.

There was even one time Arnold Schwarzenneggar joked about wanting to be POTUS mentioned from the Expendables movie. :P

It's a tie for me between President Ford and President Dugan.

Changes from the upcoming unofficial Red Alert 3 1.12.6 patch by @Chris have been announced today. Like its predecessors, this patch is mostly oriented towards fixing bugs and tweaking the graphics, and is currently oriented at multiplayer matches and aims to be the patch of choice for competitive play and tournaments. Bugs that are fixed include instances where Tesla Coils could not fire at all, War Bears killing burrowed Tankbusters, Terror Drones not damaging infected units, MiG and Striker-VX missiles not damaging an Assault Destroyer with its Black Hole ability enabled, turrets being able to fire after being sold, frozen tanks being able to crush infantry that come too close and more. The full changelog can be read here.

Another Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge server alternative run by fans has emerged recently. NGWOL, much like XWIS, mimicks the old Westwood Online server and utilizes its lobby structure. Ladders for both games are available and functional, and the tool provided can have the games switch back and forth between NGWOL and XWIS. Information on signing up and connecting can be found on their website.

Despite receiving an official mod SDK and fan-made tools that are compatible with it, Red Alert 3 got few mods when compared to its predecessors. However, one mod for Red Alert 3 took the spotlight recently - Eastern Loong. Its selling point is the addition of the fourth faction, China, with its own visual identity and techtree. It has its own way of building structures - having them drop from the sky, and the units are fully voiced, albeit in Chinese, since the development team is from China as well. There's even an article on Kotaku about the mod! Check out the mod's ModDB profile page and give it a run.

It's time for Throwback Thursday again! This week, we remember one of the more bizarre superweapons in Command & Conquer - the Allied Weather Control Device from Red Alert 2. Developed by Albert Einstein (because of course it was), this device was capable of firing a beam into the sky which would move clouds above a designated area in order to unleash powerful lightning storms which could electrocute infantry and demolish lighter and moderately armoured structures. This one shows how the Command & Conquer series, and particularly the Red Alert universe, was no stranger to quirky technologies.

Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

C&C:Online, the community-run multiplayer server for Command & Conquer games affected by the GameSpy shutdown, marked its third anniversary yesterday! This year alone, around 45,000 people have been playing on the servers, with the number still rising. To celebrate this anniversary, prized tournaments have been announced for the month of July, as well as a hint at a new and more convenient way to launch the games onto the service.
