  1. Politics current events -------------------------------------------- Edit: Actually to answer your question properly, I like watching people in power fall on their butts - I consider it entertainment. I watched a documentary called Zeitgeist in 2007 and in 2008 I got into Alex Jones' Infowars website, and in 2010 I started reading RT. Back in 2008 people would mock Alex Jones and refuse to take him seriously, now the main criticism of Alex Jones is that he's too successful and that he makes too much money! Back when I got interested in this stuff, people were considered to be Soviet-ass commies if they watched RT. Now millions of Americans watch RT, and RT is available in French, German, Spanish and Arabic. Now the weirdos are the people who still support the "mainstream" in Washington DC (district of criminals). RT deliberately courted controversy by covering anti-fracking groups and the 9/11 truth movement, they even covered nationalist groups and "extremists". In doing so the Kremlin united the far-left with the far-right into a common cause of fighting Washington and opposing its policy: previously, the controlled-media had got the left and the right bickering with each other, instead of fighting the globalist scum in the Congress. The criminal Washington establishment is no longer able to peddle their lies because RT will expose them, and the RuAF will smash ISIS when the US air force refuses to do so - this is rubbed in the faces of lunatics like John McCain. You criticise me for bringing politics to the forums, but there are other posts about politics eg. Trump v Clinton, Brexit makes history, in fact you took part in the Brexit thread by posting. Politics is **** but anti-politics is better. Everything is politics these days. The more people conform and accept the status quo, the worse things get. I like to take the side of anti-politics and opt-out of the mainstream, especially on the topic of computer games. Instead of buying AAA games I'm refusing to buy anything, when I get an internet connection in my room again I'm going to work on Battle For Wesnoth and 0 A.D. there's a point to be made about going against the flow. Right now you're watching the Washington establishment in its death throes. Even the millennial neo-con retards in their suits can't change public opinion now. They lost their credibility over the Iraq War lies, and they lost more credibility now that Russia-Iran-Turkey are making the peace deals. The only thing the neo-cons can do is tell more lies or advocate more war, which nobody wants. People can see through the bull ****. It's a happy time we're living in! It's hilarious watching the dying establishment lash out at Trump and accuse him of being a "Kremlin stooge" when all the republicans who oppose Trump are pro-China when it comes to trade, they're happy that America is crashing into the ground (economically). Then there's the idiots who want "equality" and who push gender politics: the only gender politics that mattered in 2016 was the issue of young white males who can't find basic employment. Hillary must have overlooked that! Oh well it's her loss isn't it. The most important phrase to describe 2016 is "radical discontent" but you won't hear that on the controlled-media Trump didn't win because he won the vote, he won because SOVIET HACKERS Meme of the year below! Just because no-one replies "haha" it doesn't mean no-one agrees it's the truth

Age Of Empires / Age Of Mythology

Yes that's the one ... my neighbours had Empire Earth There's a non-commercial RTS called 0 A.D. but it's probably full of bugs, they're on Alpha 21 - not a release candidate. Their latest trailer has 40,000 hits on Youtube, the video was published in November 2016 (promising!) Eventually we may reach a time where an AOE game can be produced entirely by volunteers.

Age Of Empires / Age Of Mythology

Even AOE 1 had some type of scenario editor, at the very least you could make custom maps. --------------------------------------------------------- In Age Of Mythology I believe it is possible to get into the Mythic Age in about 15 minutes but it leaves you in a bad state with poor defences and a poor economy. The economy of AOM was fantastic: if you were Norse you needed wood (mainly) and if you were Egyptian you needed gold to be your main resource. It was easy to unbalance things. A friend in one of my past jobs didn't like any RTS that was "too futuristic". I think that 'futuristic' would describe most RTS games Hey I just remembered there was something called Rise Of Nations and there was another one that I forgot the name of. Did any of you play those non-AOE titles extensively? I was in my mid-teens at the time and I struggled with Tiberian Sun. We had 3 neighbours next door (all male children) and the eldest one was quite nerdy, he hated first-person shooters but was a fan of Sins Of A Solar Empire (a game I know by name only).
  4. Tiberian Wars was a great game, they merged it well with the original story and somehow furthered it without too much nonsense. The TW campaign can kick the butt of the miserable Generals campaign
  5. It depends on what engine you like the most. Looking back, I think the Tiberian Sun/RA2 game engine was the best. When CNC went proper 3d it meant that the maps were often smaller and the structures and hills took up more room - the design would never be as clever. I prefer the cell-based voxel graphic games because they could cram more stuff into the maps and hide secrets in a really neat way.
  6. TL;DR Red Alert 2 + Yuris Revenge Generals + Zero Hour Red Alert (the first one) Tiberian Dawn Tiberian Sun Tiberian Sun would have been better if they'd had more time to implement features, like waypoints that are actually useful.
  7. I thought the victory text was hilarious! A great use of particle effects too. That's just my opinion.
  8. I didn't click the link because it's just a rumour. One thing I'll add to this conversation is that I doubt Generals 2 will be "revived" (depending on how you define it). The studio was fired, so if they revived the game then I think they'd throw out much of the code and re-do it, as opposed to continuing on the existing code and game.

Why I gave up Firefox for Opera

I've mainly been using Firefox version 50, and version 50.0.1 and I've found that Edge loads Twitter a lot faster. Over the past few months I've been thinking "why is Twitter so crap on a PC?" but really, it's just a bad version of Firefox. Lessons from using Linux: the newest version isn't always the best

Why I gave up Firefox for Opera

I suppose that screen shots have largely replaced the need to save a page.

Why I gave up Firefox for Opera

Edge is not bad. It takes forever to clear its cache though, so I unselect some boxes and only remove cookies, cache and history; no need to check media licenses or other unimportant stuff. It clears fast now. Edge will throw off a few new users because it doesn't have a full-screen mode for the browser itself (though oddly you can "full screen" a video or a browser application) and you cannot save web pages in Edge. It's a good backup browser, when you're sick of other products.

    Desktop CPU Thread

Right you are, sir! So when we see it advertised we'll cross our fingers and hope that it's level 2 smartcache and not level 3. I'm using an HP notebook that has 3MB of level 3 cache and it's horribly slow. I don't care much for level 3 cache. I suppose most people buy based upon whether a product is an i7 desktop CPU or not ... I always look at the caches and clock speed. Intel doesn't appear to specify on their website http://ark.intel.com/products/95443/Intel-Core-i5-7200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz?_ga=1.67418001.1638255294.1479945856 Basically, the more money you have, the better the CPU I guess.
  15. AMD company news on CNBC, October 2016 http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000563435
  16. Here's the part that was featured on slashdot: Full article below on the verge http://www.theverge.com/a/verge-2021/ea-ceo-andrew-wilson-interview-virtual-video-games My response to this is that I'm thoroughly disgusted. Gaming has become so bland and boring, to appreciate it, you must be playing games every day for several hours otherwise you'll feel like an outsider. When I owned a PS4 I enjoyed playing Wolfenstein at 2am in the morning after a shift at work but I never enjoyed the "social" aspect of gaming. At the time I had a Vodafone cable broadband connection and the latency was terrible, owing to New Zealand's stupid location on the map. I played Driveclub online one or two times and there was an idiot who kept on saying "I no speak English" while in the lobby, no-one else was talking. I kept crashing partly because of lag and partly because of the Wombat Typhoon physics. The other game I played in Driveclub was really cool, it only lagged a little bit, and I managed to beat another player who sucked just as much as me. I plugged in my USB keyboard and sent a message to the player to tell him/her that they should have beaten me, because I only over-took them at the end after a frantic race of me and the other noob trying to beat each other, while other players were miles ahead. Minecraft was a pretty boring experience for multiplayer. Unless you're unemployed and your parents pay for your PSN subscription, there's really no point in playing Minecraft on PSN. I wasn't aware of how the map co-ordinates worked in Minecraft. I falsely believed that 'z' was your character's elevation ... Whoops! Some players were nice enough to tell me, but their game world was so large, even with the correct navigation knowledge I never found the time to find where these 2 guys had actually built their city or mansion. In conclusion, the social aspect of gaming is crap. PS4 has so many features that require you to be permanently connected and I don't care about any of them. I understood from my newsfeed that FIFA and Rocket League were a big deal to some people on my friends list, but that knowledge isn't worth having a news feed for. If I had real life friends on PSN it would have been different but all my real life friends work for busy companies. You can make the argument that I could get more friends but that is BS. The only thing happening in Christchurch is millennials going to university and going to bars in the evenings. I want to believe that a social aspect of gaming can be a good thing, but I can't. Nearly everyone I meet is a waste of time. Once I heard a drummer playing in my neighbourhood so I put on a decent coat, grabbed my guitar bag and walked over. I had a chat with the guy and we swapped numbers and email addresses but every time I sent him a text he would either never respond or say he was busy. It's just boring when people are too busy to do anything. I have the same frustration when I enquired about letting a room the other day: I'd call the owner of the house and leave a message. Then I'd end the call and see that I'd received a new message "sorry busy call back later". After a couple more attempts I have given up on this guy, even though he is friends with a good friend of mine. How can someone be "busy" but still be next to their phone, and able to spare 30 seconds to send a text message? If you were truly busy as this guy was, working in sales, then there's no way you'd waste time sending a message - you'd have your mind on something else. The solution Gaming shouldn't be "social" in the sense that it currently is. Video games should be something you offer at a birthday party, otherwise gaming should **** off and instead be about getting away from people. I like the latter option and I'm increasingly interested in making my own games for the purpose of helping folks kill time - those moments when you get a call from a friend saying that they have changed plans and you can't come around, but maybe there's something else on in the afternoon. When my plans are cancelled I want a game that's easy enough to save and quit, something that won't consume the rest of my day. Mobile games don't suit in my opinion, because swiping and tapping on a screen just feels weird. If I had money then I'd probably buy a dedicated gaming thing from Nintendo or Sony, one that has proper buttons and arrows and stuff. When I worked on the local elections there was a guy who played on a Sony gadget. He managed to pass every break just because of this gadget, he never got bored! Tropico 6 If the Tropico team make a Tropico 6 with cross-platform support and improved multiplayer then I'm definitely going to buy it. It's a bigger game than 8 Bit Armies and it fulfils my interest in strategy games. Political correctness in video games I'm all for having TRUTH in video games, but I'm not in favour of changing the order of things to appease an "oppressed class". People ask: "why can't we have a playable female character in Grand Theft Auto". We can't, because the next step will be that the female character is too violent, or she dates the wrong men. Franklin was a boring character who could have been replaced with a white character. I'll give one example of a black character in a game who made sense, from Wolfenstein: There are two aspects of political correctness in games that I disagree with. First, the risk of it being contrived and stupid. Second, the corporate policy of "diversity" - the absurd idea that corporations can somehow be moral or truthful. Before someone pre-empts me and asks me to explain why I think we should have proper Chinese/Russian accents in games, it's simple: China and Russia are powerful nations that are just as advanced as the Western countries in many ways. They have culture, technology, engineering, and they both have kick-ass armies. China and Russia are major geo-political players that can successfully subvert Western goals, we should respect them as equals. That is in contrast to respecting feminists and black lives matter activists. If Rockstar refuses to transform GTA into a sit-com for women, then what are feminists going to do ... get their candidate elected? LOL NOPE ... maybe they'll pass legislation? LOL NOPE. The only way we can add a balance to games is through honesty and integrity. Note that Andrew Wilson says they have had a few major projects which were managed by one woman each. Those women can use their own personal ideas in the creation of the game, but that's different from the Marxist idea that women (plural) are a collective, and that ALL WOMEN should share the most extreme Marxist ideas. Even if a woman manages a project, that doesn't mean that she has (or should have) a political agenda. In my opinion the only balancing in games should be to do with historic facts surrounding certain nations or organisations. Nothing should be too one-sided that it denigrates a person, country or organisation, without also paying respect in some way. In Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, there are always evil bad-guy characters but that isn't universal, they also humanise the German soldiers and portray their personal lives through the placement of letters that the soldiers are writing to their families. In GTA they generally mock third wave feminists but they did have that Tanisha character (if I remember) who is seen twice in person, and heard once via phone. That is pretty generous considering that nearly 100% of GTA players are male. Compare that with EA's attempt to "diversify" CnC3 with a female character who sulks and has feelings LOL, great intro for Kilean, but everything else about her was a disaster. Gotta love Ajay with his riff-raff style of crass language and unacceptable long hair, ha-ha! I didn't know that the brotherhood had such loose regulations and expectations for its highest ranking people

Why I gave up Firefox for Opera

I'm using Firefox with the "Yes Script" plugin, it's simpler than No Script. In YES you simply "blacklist" a website with a single click and then I think refresh the page and it blocks all scripts (including on return visits). Be default, javascript is allowed. But you can blacklist CNN and anything equally obnoxious, then those websites will load faster.

    Desktop CPU Thread

I had searched but I skipped Wikipedia, I was looking at the Intel website and Tom's Hardware, I only found references to smart cache. Your link is bad (you added a dot on the end) but Wikipedia does have a summary description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Cache There's nothing smart about it, it just shares the cache between each core. Oddly, they muddle level 2 and level 3 cache together now, which I don't like one bit! It's as if they want to obscure the specs so you have less knowledge of what you're buying.
  19. In the future I'm going to move to PC gaming. Most of the titles on PS4 are multiplayer focussed. Except for Wolfenstein, Driveclub and Witcher 3. Drive Club is meant to be social but it can be played in single player. I killed many hours with Drive Club. Drive Club's online integration has little challenges to corner accurately, or pass a certain length of track faster than another player - the challenge pops up and resets its score every so-many hours. You have to beat another player's record. The sad thing was, these challenge start-points would just say "loading" and I would've gone past them before they could load, and supposedly cable broadband is really fast lol nope. I'm going to buy a Nintendo 2DS/3DS at some point, maybe in a few years. I wonder if I could make games for it one day *dreams*. I didn't know about it because no-one that I know has one.

    Trump has made history!

Move America to MMP, like New Zealand, where the Green Party actually gets seats in Parliament and votes similar to the Labour Party. In MMP parties can make a majority by sharing power. It's weird but it's better than FPP. We had a referendum on this issue a while ago and I voted for the Single Transferable Vote system, but had more people voted against MMP, we wouldn't have got STV, we would have FPP argghhh luckily we're still using MMP!

Indeed! I want to know exactly what the level 1 and level 2 cache is. "Smartcache" doesn't help me.

Why I gave up Firefox for Opera

Yeah plugins are wasteful, I don't use them. Some people insist on using ad-blockers to increase page-load performance but I think you're better off to disable third-party cookies and automatically clean your cache upon exit. If you want good performance on the web you can disable Javascript while you browse news sites and stuff - Disqus comment sections are disabled if Javascript is disabled, and most comment sections are garbage anyway so it's a bonus to block them. I'm not sure if it's possible to disable Javascript in Firefox unless you install No Script. Simply disable scripts universally and WHOOSH! Any browser can be good. I'm typically on a Windows 10 laptop with an i-3 processor (only 3MB of level 3 cache, every other level of cache is in the kilobytes). The other problem is that the clock-speed on this laptop is 1.70ghz which is awful. The internet usually works really well, so long as I have telemetry and crash reports disabled. I don't know which browser I like the most - I hate them all. I always change my mind on browsers and operating systems. If you want to try something really crazy, then run Debian in a virtual environment and install the Lynx Browser (text only). It's great for reading CNN because it doesn't auto-load videos - no graphics, you see!
  24. I know this is a gaming forum but can we keep it constructive? "Social" gaming is BS and I'm not saying end it for everyone: I want alternatives. If someone could tell me about these Nintendo/Sony mobile gaming platforms that would be helpful. I remember PSP in high school and now it's PS Vita. Is PS Vita worth it? They have PS4 integration features, which would be pointless for me now. If it's worth having PS Vita without an internet connection then I'm going to look into it.
  25. I met the guy who is making this, it's pretty cool, it feels a lot like the Battle Zone physics http://vector36.com/ I got to play it in VR near to the end of October. It's coming out eventually on multiple PC platforms including Linux apparently.
