  1. Ashes of the Singularity

Just looking at one video, it seems to me like the biggest difference in the core mechanics of the game is C&C encourages more precise actions with limited units, whereas Ashes of the Singularity focuses more on wars with hundreds of units at a time. In a "perfect" C&C game you would use a squad-sized number of every unit on your team (this doesn't actually happen in reality), whereas in Ashes of the Singularity, it seems that the focus is more on building a battalion to fight an enemy battalion. Additionally, C&C is heavily campaign based. Many players will play the entire series without playing any more than a handful of online games. It seems that this is not the case for Ashes of the Singularity, which has an almost tutorial-like campaign.
  2. Okay. There's like three different threads where I talk about updates, so I'm going to start focusing on this one. Here are some of the recent changes: The main page has a new theme. The old version was broken in a number of ways, and so I started from scratch on the new theme. It has a bit of a retro feel to it, in my opinion. The forums will have a matching theme soon. You can preview this theme by scrolling to the bottom of any page on the forums, clicking "Theme," and selecting "Blue, Gold theme." Reputation works on this theme! Note - this theme is NOT complete. It is probably 90% complete, there's just a bunch of little details that need to be fixed. The download section has returned, though it is not yet complete. I am still adding downloads to it, but I'm taking a break because I have been working nonstop on this for two days straight. SSL enabled and activated on both the main site and forums. A malformed .htaccess file was preventing HTTPS links from working properly. Features to come soon: More featured games/mods in the rotator on the main page. We want to allow different mod teams to have their game featured. We will have to come up with a standard so that mods have to show some promise before they are put up on the rotator. Possibly allowing the submission of files. There are security issues with uploading so we'll have to approach this concept carefully. Things I'm still working on, but might take longer: Fixing slowdown issues What I want to hear from you guys: Are there any features or content you'd like to see either added to the site or returned to the site? What would we be doing to make you guys want to visit more? What kind of content do you think is just a waste of time and space, because you don't enjoy it?
  3. CNCNZ Updates - September 2017

The new theme has been pushed to all users. If you'd prefer to return to the old theme, you have the option to do so by clicking the "Theme" button at the bottom of the forums. The old theme will remain accessible until it is buggy, I won't be supporting it anymore. For now, enjoy the Gold and Blue!
  4. CNCNZ Updates - September 2017

SSL activated on both the main site and forums. A malformed .htaccess file was causing the issue.
  5. CNCNZ Updates - September 2017

Well, anyway, to get back on track, I'd mostly like to hear big-picture features you guys would like to see added or removed. Reputation is a small thing (a trivial matter, really, regardless of who is asking), whereas Music Monday, as an example, is an actual feature. PurpleGaga's suggestion of adding more polls is something I like to hear. This is an actual content-based feature that can be added to the site, no matter how difficult it may be to come up with the actual polls themselves.
  6. CNCNZ Updates - September 2017

Good. We can start by kicking you out.
  7. CNCNZ Updates - September 2017

    Lucky them.
  8. CNCNZ Updates - September 2017

Polls are only useful when we have something to poll about. If we think of something, we might add it. The reputation system is fine, as the others have said. I'm sorry, but it's a solid system, and it's a trivial matter to stop/reverse actual abuse. Revora still has BBCode because they are not fully updated to IPS4, as you can see at the bottom of their forums, they still have the "Community Forum Software by IP.Board" message at the bottom of their forums, which means they are on an older version. W3D Hub tried bringing back BBcode and they have far more experienced coders than I am, and they too, failed. IPS really didn't want to support it any more.
  9. Updating / Moving CNCNZ.com

Either I'm blind, or the option to restrict the number of embedded videos has been removed. If anyone finds it, limit it to 2 videos. Anything more should just be in a playlist.
  10. In order to properly secure CNCNZ and fully transfer control, there will be some on-and-off downtime for the next week or so. There's a few things that I need to do that cause downtime: Download the contents of the entire website - This will potentially slow the server down a little bit as I download every existing file on this server. Transfer the domain name to my own hosting service - This may result in 1-3 days of the website being entirely inaccessable as the domain name transfers. Transfer the database to my own hosting service - This basically means transferring every forum post, pm, shout, etc ever made, and incorporating it into the new server. This process will take approximately 3-4 hours after the domain name is transferred. Since I won't be aware of exactly when the domain transfer will complete, expect this to add a day to the entire process. Change the name servers accordingly to point the dns to my server - This basically means I need to tell the internet as a whole where to find CNCNZ. This will take an hour or two for some, up to 48 hours for others. All in all, expect some downtimes throughout the next week. I'll work as quickly as I can to take care of everything. During the downtime, I'll be posting the status of this site at http://zeehive.net. This isn't a plug for my own site, it's simply a place where you will be able to check the status of CNCNZ when you eventually see that this site is down. Thanks for your patience guys. Just gotta get this over with.
  11. Videos removed. Next time, post them in a playlist.
  12. Seriously, if you're going to post a barrel of videos, put them all in a playlist. There's no reason to lag everyone's computer by posting 46 videos in one thread, in one post.
  13. Newest video is here! And we ask the question... what are we really fighting about?
  14. test post please ignore
  15. Updating / Moving CNCNZ.com

Definitely not intentional, gotta push that limit back down. As for archived posts not showing up in search results, yes, this is a big issue. I'm going to see if this is something that can be changed, if not, I'll unarchive everything if I can.
  16. Updating / Moving CNCNZ.com

Already on memcache, not sure where to find the setting to serve gzipped content. Testing the idea of archiving all posts which have not been replied to in over a year, we'll see how that goes. (For those who are nervous, it just means they're locked, and should load faster, you'll still be able to see the post)
  17. Updating / Moving CNCNZ.com

    1. Bug with the download plugin, I'll attempt to fix it when we update a number of other downloads. 2. My name is whatever I want it to be.
  18. Sonic, the founder and lead webmaster of this site, has chosen to step down. Rather than let the site disappear into the abyss, he has generously allowed me to maintain the website. What does this mean? I, Zee Hypnotist, have returned to CNCNZ.com. Sort of. I am here mostly in spirit and to ensure that CNCNZ stays alive in one way or another. Plokite_Wolf and Nmenth will remain as the admins who actually keep the site running, while I support them in any way I can. Rest assured, you do not need to worry about archiving everything just yet, we will ensure that CNCNZ remains online, though there may be a temporary period of disruption while we transfer everything to (yet another) server host. And to Sonic, we, the community, thank you for your 19 years of keeping this site alive. Should you ever wish to return, your legacy will always remain. Long live CNCNZ!
  19. My gift to you for still being alive

Hold up. Why is the Tesla Coil™ and the Allied Turret™ attacking the Apocalypse Tank™? I call shenanigans.
  20. The newest C&C LEGO video is here! Huzzah! In this video, we check out the powerfully accurate Disc Thrower!
  21. Updating / Moving CNCNZ.com

It's a strange bullshit update, that's what. This goes beyond the template issues. The ability to add reputation to posts has been inexplicably removed, the layout of the template has changed, images are suddenly missing, etc. It's going to take some time to work the problem.
  22. Updating / Moving CNCNZ.com

Updated the forum software, looks like it broke a few things (cause y'know, why wouldn't it?). I'll see what I can do to bring everything back up to par.
  23. C&C LEGO has returned, in a new format. Take a look! New episodes will come out every month or so. Hope you enjoy this one!
  24. C&C LEGO: The Expansion Pack - Skirmish

Not really sure if I want to because I have only played it a few times and I just can't get into it. On top of that, many of the units are extremely complex and hard to replicate in a simple LEGO format. I'm no longer going to leave mods completely off the table, I just don't feel it's a pragmatic approach to the next several episodes (of which I have 5 more planned so far).
