  1. Thank you very much Inferno! That's exactly what I was missing and now I can play Red Alert again! Woohoo!! Cheers!!
  2. Hi there, I'm a first time poster trying to relive some of the glory days of my youth but I've run into some problems installing the classic C&C Red Alert on my laptop and was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on what I'm doing wrong. Basically, when I put the CD into my disk drive and click on the "Install Red Alert" button, I come up with the following message inside of a box with the heading "16 bit Windows Subsystem": "C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application" The only two options it then gives me are to either close the box or ignore the message, yet both do absolutely nothing once you've clicked them. At first, I thought it might be something wrong with the discs themselves, yet my housemate was able to install the game on his laptop using them with no problems whatsoever, using the patch featured on the site designed for compatibility with Windows XP to ensure he can play the game. I too have downloaded the patch and followed the instructions that come with them (i.e., going to the setup.exe's properties and changing the compatibility to Windows 95) but that doesn't seem to make any difference either. In my curiosity, I also tried to check out what this C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. file is, but I can't actually find it, leaving me to wonder if maybe that's the reason I can't install the game? All in all, it's left me very confused and I would be in debt to anyone who could help me find a solution! Thanks for your time folks!
