I didn't have as much teenager cringe on here since I've been an adult for most the time I've been here... lol

I'm ready for these boxes to arrive. They will look great with the rest of my C&C collection.

Been playing it recently. Still as hard as it used to be. Could've done us a favor and fixed the pathfinding but, all in all, it's fantastic. Sadly, this remaster does show all of the gameplay flaws in all their HD glory.

After watching a few, they should have just left them the original size. They don't uh... look that good honestly.

I did KanColle for a while but Azur Lane just got me hooked. I quite enjoy it.

End of the world? Not really. This will be a temporary roadblock that will eventually pass. It's nothing compared to previous pandemics, at least in terms of deaths. Diseases happen. Some spread like wildfire like this one has but it will get to the point that most people are either immune or are tempered against it. It's why the 1918 flu, which was H1N1 by the way, hasn't come back to haunt us. A century's worth of exposure will do that. With the advent of vaccines, the pandemic can potentially be stopped in its tracks once an effective one is delivered.

But it won't be as scary once there are vaccines and proven treatments. what's scarier, is the government overreach and total economic destruction that seems to be the goal of many in charge.
I'm not too sure about overreach as much as some are claiming. The quickest way to lose an argument is to overstate it and I think that's happened here. In fact, these are functionally identical measures that sprung from the 1918 flu pandemic. Admittedly, the economic shutdown is more drastic and somewhat unnecessary if people at large aren't fucking idiots. Unfortunately, we all know how absolutely moronic the public at large really is. Regardless, I don't see this stifling of the world's economy as being beneficial any longer. Unless something changes drastically, I don't see it actually getting all that much worse, even if we reopen.
That said, fuck the office. I can work from home until this shit isn't gonna fucking murder me. Let's hear it for being in the "increased risk" section of the population. Hooray for heart conditions (not).

Fair enough but I really haven't changed names in a while. Just sticking with those two.
What else you been up to? Aside from not having a house, touring and being a stooge? o.o

I wonder if that applies to all non-English copies of the game. I have French and German discs. Worth a check I suppose.

Mainly the new MW. The Damascus grind is real.

LRG having delays? That's a shocker. Even without a virus rampaging around, LRG has a stunningly bad track record of delivering in a timely manner. Everything I've bought from them has been delayed so this is no surprise.

And since my last tenure, I've been
A: homeless
B: a touring musician
C: a government stooge
...among other things. Isn't life fun?
Actually, I've not changed my name in quite a long time. I really only go by Doctor Destiny and The Astronomer these days.
Since I've been, more or less, not around for a long time, I started gender transition, started working a full time job in 2015 and have moved from the bottom level of support to leading a department, among other responsibilities like bailing out gen tech and being the only web dev on staff. Stress from that kinda caused me a lovely psychotic break this week. So there was that too.

Had to do a bit of wizardry to unlock ye olde account, but voila!
Confusing is a good word. I mean, I'm a girl now. Among other things. lol

Ya girl is still floating around too. I'm always lurking... hiding in the shadows...

In my long absence from this place, I started gender transition, started working hard towards being a full time web developer and have found a super wonderful boyfriend who I'm working on seeing (he lives in the UK and I do not). I should be getting a legal name change this year too.
Besides that, I'm still a C&C fangirl and collect PC games and I have quite a collection.

Almost a year in and it's getting... different. I expect year 2 to be a lot more productive.

Well yeah. I'm just out of my mind pretty much. xD

What is up, my dudes! I've had a long hiatus from roaming around these parts. Life's been keeping me busy, especially work. What with my silent promotions to ecommerce project lead and to the one remaining web developer on staff. But the big change is that your dear ol' Doctor D is undergoing gender transition therapy! So yes, I am one of those people.
So whutchu people been up for the last year? Waiting for the Remasters no doubt. Cause I sure as hell am.

Multiple times in fact. :p

And it probably won't be, but acting like it's bad in an alpha state is just poor form.
-
What? A pre-alpha game isn't fucking perfect? Someone stop the presses. Let's all bitch about a game that's not even RC worthy!
I don't like the game and won't play it, but I'm not going to act like it's going to be abysmal based on the alpha. ALPHA! Not even beta. An alpha.

You can have 128 cores but it won't mean a hell of a lot unless the software uses it. It's cute that they think the number of cores means a hell of a lot.

I doubt Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub will change anything. They're getting too invested in it. When they got LinkedIn, guess what changed? That's right. Sweet fuck all changed. I don't even use it much and it was the same as it was 8 years ago when I used it actively. Microsoft is trying to get into open source. Hell, they have some of their own products on there and they've committed to Linux quite well. Ballmer is gone and Gates really doesn't do much anymore. Their product quality is actually on the rise. I don't use Windows 10, Office 2016 and Visual Studio because they're bad. Far, far from it...

Active Shooter doesn't "explore" anything, as opposed to games with dark subjects, like That Dragon, Cancer (which is on Steam). Regarding "especially when non-interactive media does it frequently": Nobody is preventing the guy from making this game. He can put it on his own website if he wants to, or on other platforms. Just like not every film about school shootings has an automatic right to be screened in cinemas, or to be featured on Netflix.
"Other games are bad too" is no justification.
As for Steam allowing the game first and removing it later: That happens because Steam has no quality control in place. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had games that blatantly violate copyright (e.g. that Smash Bros clone with characters from 15+ franchises) or games with no .exe. They publish first and ask questions later.
I never said Active Shooter did anything other than be faux edgy for the sake of being edgy. It's tasteless, but that alone is not a justification for a game removal. Nobody is going to bother with anything on some random dickhead's website and probably for the best. Being on Steam makes it a tad more legitimate, even if it's a shitty game. Steam has lots of shitty games but lack of quality is not a reason to remove any game. Valve leaves countless poor quality, tasteless and edgelord games on Steam. Whether or not they have quality control isn't relevant to this point. Violating laws is really the only legitimate reason to remove a game from my perspective, but Valve will do what they need to do to keep their business healthy. I don't fault them for that but I can still disagree with their choices.

Then that should be the reason, not the shitty ass game or the game content itself.
3 hours ago, TaxOwlbear said:Steam is a privately run platform. They are under no obligation to host anyone's rubbish (even though they do host a lot of rubbish).
That said, the reason why films are treated differently is because there aren't many - if indeed any - films that just show someone killing school children. Taking this list as a sample, films about school shootings focus on exploring the motives of the shooters, the aftermath, social reasons that lead to school shootings etc.
Active Shooter does nothing like that. It's just a trash game from some edgelord who thinks he's rad for making a game like this in a time with regular school shootings in America. If this game was like SWAT 4 (i.e. an actual quality game), or an interactive story type game, it would be a different story.
While this much is true, it should be a platform of free expression, even if we may find the subject matter distasteful. Not everyone likes the same things and any game, regardless of subject matter, should be available on a widely used platform. If the creator is a thief, or doing other unseemly things, by all means, blow them away. However, subjective metrics lead to issues and it paints games in a poor light. Not being able to explore dark subject matter is limiting, especially when non-interactive media does it frequently.
Being an edgelord supreme does not mean the game cannot have at least some merit. While this one likely did not, that's not the real issue with it. There are plenty of tasteless games on Steam that don't get bothered.
2 hours ago, Nmenth said:That was my first thought as well, but when I considered it, I also came to the same conclusion as TaxOwlbear in that:
I don't support Steam's decision, but I can't object to them making whatever choice they want either. If Steam was being coerced by some authority, then I would have to object.
And that makes it a low-quality game, but being low-quality is a bad reason to ban a game from a platform full of low-quality games. And trying to be "edgy" certainly isn't a good reason either.
If the developer is an asset thief, that is a valid reason to give him the boot. So if that bit is true, they should act on that aspect alone and ignore all of the offended Helen Lovejoys.
Steam is being coerced. Just not by anyone with authority, only by people with an overinflated sense of self worth. The fact is that the dude is a known shitbiscuit is the only valid reason to boot the guy. Fortunately, he is and it removes his bullshit from Steam. Acting like the game is tasteless, which it probably is, is the worst reason to do a damn thing. Had the guy been an unknown publisher, I suspect they might not have removed the game...
