Worst C&C game in the universe?
Shocker replied to Hitman079's topic in Command & Conquer: General Discussion
Oddly enough, you missed THE worst C&C game ever made: Sole Survivor -
Cheers Sonic . My uni workload had gotten pretty intense a few years back, and I wasn't coping well at all--so I basically pulled a DeXtr3me and vanished for a while, lol. It's good to be back, and to see that CNCNZ is still going. Re. GRAW: From what I can tell, the Xbox 360 version is indeed way more optimised. The PC version needs a huge amount of CPU/GPU horsepower to run smoothly, but on the upside it has larger maps, more detailed textures and (allegedly) better AI. BTW folks--if you like C&C (and who here doesn't), you owe it to yourself to try out Act of War. I picked up the expansion pack a week or so ago, and it's *awesome*.

I'm really keen on BioShock--it's a spiritual successor to Looking Glass Studios' System Shock series. Screenies available here.
-
Last game I purchased was Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for PC. Should be in my letterbox tomorrow morning Prior to that it was Oblivion...that's another great game.

No. You can search the web for Fourteenth Amendment jurisprudence on the topic if you wish--the Supreme Court judges explain their reasoning far more eloquently than I ever could. To be precise - it's referring to all people, regardless of their citizenship status

There sure is: 1) In FireFox click the Bookmarks menu ->Manage Bookmarks->File->Export->Save 2) In IE click the File menu->Import and Export->Next->Import Favorites->Import from File or Address->Select the saved file (from FF)->Next->Finish

I understand where you're coming from. Heck, New Zealand is thousands of kilometres away from any other country of note, and yet illegal immigrants still manage to find their way here. I can only imagine the numbers that would flow through your country's huge land borders, and the strain they put on your health, transport, law enforcement and education systems. I'm sure Congress will work very hard to not address the problem :/ In regards to the perception that the judicial branch is adopting a soft approach on illegals, I would only point out that many of the cases that established these rights are in fact quite old. Wong Wing v U.S., for example, was decided in 1896!

Understood!

Did you bother to actually, y'know, read the cases before slamming them as pieces of judicial activism? Or did you simply have the usual knee-jerk reaction of conservatives when they are faced with judicial decisions that they disagree with? The reasoning the judges used is generally quite sound. Take part of the Fourteenth Amendment, for example: Notice how the amendment explicitly prohibits the states from abrogating the "privileges and immunities" of citizens, and then goes on to guard any person's right to life, liberty, due process, equal protection etc etc. If we were to believe your statement that "people who aren't United States citizens are NOT entitled to our freedoms and rights," why would the Amendment provide that "citizens" are entitled to special privileges, but that "all people [any person]" are entitled to due process and equal protection? The answer is basically that all people -- regardless of their immigration status -- are endowed with certain unalienable rights (sound familiar?) that simply cannot be trampled on. No sane person is suggesting for one minute that illegal aliens should have all the rights of U.S. citizens. But to argue that they have no rights *at all* under the Constitution is just...wrong. I'm not denying it for one minute. As a legal emigrant to New Zealand, I have no fondness for people who try to bypass the proper immigration process. But in most democracies -- my country, your country, Canada, Australia etc -- even criminals have rights.
-
The federal courts have held that illegal aliens residing in the United States have: Fourth Amendment rights (INS v. Lopez-Mendoza); Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights (Wong Wing v. United States); heck, even the right to a free public education (Plyler vs. Doe) -- to name but a few of the relevant cases. The courts have also consistently upheld the right of illegal aliens to due process and equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment. Just a side note.

I want to see a few dedicated support units and buildings thrown into the mix. My memory of Tiberian Sun is a bit fuzzy now, but IIRC, Westwood were planning a 'Threat Assessment' building that would enhance your units' coordination and tactics when built. It never made it into the final game--it was probably too hard to implement--but I've always thought it was a cool idea. Things like a futuristic AWACS aircraft would be nice as well. It could fly high above the battlefield (but be vulnerable to AA fire, of course) and relay tactical information to your units and/or the minimap. Of course, you don't want to go overboard with units like these; obviously a large part of the fun of C&C is the arcade-style battles. But one or two for each side would fit in quite nicely

Zuup all ;) tell us a bit aboutz urself =D
Shocker replied to s]-[arp's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I didn't really want to create a new thread for this post, so I thought I'd put it in here as it vaguely relates to the original topic Hi, I'm Shocker and I'm an alcoholic. I used to be reasonably active on these forums, but last year some 'nasty stuff' went down in my personal life and I abruptly went offline for quite some time to sort things out. I'd like to think I have things back on track now. I'm sorry that I told Phreakly that I could work on the Tower Guard when in the end I didn't, but things went to custard pretty fast last year and I had to get away. I'm glad to see CNCNZ still here, when so many others in the community have fallen by the wayside. -
I have no interest in getting a piercing or a tattoo :/

Welcome back, Hans. I didn't see this thread before

Westwood's sales killed Westwood. This is the kind of logic that always baffles me. EA owned Westwood for how long, and you always bought the games. The people who worked on Generals and this new game are majority ex-Westwood employees, but now that they're "EA" you don't like them. The actual game designers never really have much control over the business aspects of things. If you hated EA so much before, you shouldn't have supported them by supporting Westwood. If you really did enjoy Westwood games though, it doesn't logically follow to dislike the new series or "boycott" EA because they closed Westwood. Westwood wasn't profitable the way they wanted. EA is a business, albeit a giant, evil business. Your statements match my feelings exactly. Good call, mate

Well, I'm currently doing part one of the law degree at Auckland University and I'm enjoying it so far...so I expect I'll continue on with that for the next few years

Renegade: The Inspiration of the new FPS Generation!
Shocker replied to Saracen's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
LOL. This is the funniest thing I've heard all week. Tribes 1, and to a lesser extent Tribes 2, were far more popular then Renegade ever was. -
A second vote for Knights of the Old Republic - a truly brilliant game.

I like Better Red Than Dead's suggestion, but it's probably a bit too long :/

Sonic - two things: 1. I've noticed since the last few weeks that there's a strange bug on the forum. Say that I'm logged out of the forum, or browsing it on a public computer at a netcafe where the login cookie can't be stored. I then click to reply to a thread, and the forum asks for my login info. That's fine, so I type it in and click to continue. The next page shows a box with an error - 'No post ID was specified' - so I have to go back through the history to the thread and then hit reply. Obviously just a minor annoyance, but I thought I'd let you know. 2. The next bug only occurs infrequently. It's when I use the 'Jump to' box in the bottom right hand corner to go to other forums. This error happened just now actually - I was viewing General Discussion and selected 'Site Discussion' and then clicked go. It took me to a page with an error box that said something like 'Invalid Forum ID' or something similar. I forgot to take a screenshot :/ These bugs aren't anything major, but again I thought you should know just in case they show that something is stuffing up deep in the system or something. Cheers.

I just deleted the cookie at my home PC and then tried it - and I got the same error. So it appears on both my home PC & the netcafe ones. About the second problem: My mistake, I should clarify - I don't have to click 'GO'. I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106 on XP SP1 with all the security updates applied. Hmm, luk3us' problem sounds quite similar actually...
