  1. Almost completed and very close to release. This map design is based on Drummin's AOD map Dark Fortress for Generals ZH although I have changed the setting quite a lot. The fortress has been built in the area of an old and extinct volcanic eruption, which happened to appear above the surface of the sea.

The action scene is set at night.

The Keep, in the centre of the map, is occupied by 2 co-operative players, whose task is to defend the position as best they can. Although the Keep looks a little cramped, there is ample building space on there to maintain a decent defence. Basic power requirements and static defences are granted to the 2 defending players at the beginning of the game, but you will need to maintain and defend those power installations, otherwise your defences are down and you are open to attack. In addition to Ore Nodes on the centre, there are Oil Derricks which will supplement funding.

The outer fortress has a symmetry and is occupied by the other 4 players, who have to destroy the central installation by working together as a team. Each outer position also has basic power requirements granted and some strategic defences, but the only income is from Ore Nodes only. The outer positions are built with a Naval Yard, situated in the specially protected areas next to the base.

Superweapons are disabled, so you will need skill and strategy to create your forces and plan your attacks, whichever stance you choose.

The map is quite a large map and with all 6 players up during testing, the game was a little slow, but map transfer over the LAN was very quick.

The shots below give a basic idea of the map layout, but some small changes have been done since these images were made.

  2. Thats a pretty good transition into RA3 Mr X! :)

Haven't played the map yet tho - just had a peek in WB. The main thing that struck me is the grass blending that you used. Using Yucatan_02 as a base texture lends itself to a closer set of textures that gives a much better overall look. In this shot below, I cleared a small area and used textures Yucatan_05, 08 and 09 to show you what I mean:

I know you wanted to get as close as poss to the original, but personally, I would explore using some of the great features RA3 WB has, that just weren't available before - like Cliff Objects. I know it takes forever to place them correctly, but if done right, it makes a big difference.

A great job though - well done.

    Just my thoughts... ;)

  3. Thanks for the reply. I ended up looking into what it takes to create a new one, and you're right, not something worth doing. I ended up going with the first one. Here is what I have so far, if any of you want to try it out and give some feedback, that'd be great :)

I still need to play around with the minimap, add the bridge blowing up animation if its possible, and fix the textures/add more detail. Let me know what else you guys suggest.

    Cool :) I'll have a little look.

  4. Looks great!!

I just wish people would come up with better names, to many maps use "Redux" in their name.

    Thank you Sonic. :D

Redux is just an adjective for: re-visited, brought back, restored. I guess it lets folks know that its been done before, kind of at-a-glance. But I see what you're saying... so many mappers are trying to update original good ideas.

Maybe if I decide to do another revival I'll try to be a bit more imaginitive. How does "Riverside Rumble Reconstruction" sound. Hmmm perhaps not. "Riverside Rumble Reborn" - now that sounds better.

  5. Ive seen people that have the maps, but games will never start with custom maps.

I have heard of this happening before with maps that have been scripted, but not with a standard skirmish map. It may also be true that highly detailed large maps will cause some lag during multi-play. One side effect of the map transfer system can cause some texturing problems too, but I think the solution to this is to restart the game. ;)

  6. These maps work in skirmish and online play. But I believe its the map transfer system that doesn't work correctly.

Thats quite right. Players need to download the maps to their own machines individually atm. I think EA are working very hard on the Map Transfer bug and a solution should be forthcoming.

  7. Well I just read this on NeoGaf:

According to the forum manager of http://forums.filefront.com (which is now down), File Front employees have been let go and the site will be shutting down ASAP. The forums were the first to go, without notice to any of it's staff/volunteers. I've been a member there (and former administrator) for eight years now and I guess this is how it all ends.

I have no reliable sources to link to and the main website is still up, but the forums are down and the official word from the community manager is "that all File Front employees have been let go and the site will be shutting down".

File Front was the only site not affected in the UGO acquirement of the 1up network, so I figured I'd just give the heads up. I guess it was only a matter of time.

I originally thought it was an early April fools joke. Perhaps the servers are undergoing maintenance and the forum manager is just playing a cruel joke, but then I realized the numbers involved with this and I doubt that's the case. It would upset too many people, especially considering the forums hosted many mod communities, like the Forgotten Hope community.

Hope it's not April Fools joke :(

  8. And IPS Driver Error is something than can't fixed by users. To keep it simple the IPS Driver Error means the forums loose contact with database. Everything is stored in what's called a MySQL database. When the server usage is high the IPS Driver Error may pop up, or you could see the 500 Internal Server Error, then again you may never anything but an error from your browser saying the page has timed out.

I googled it out of curiosity really, but thanks for the info. (Glad you know what you're doing) ;)

  9. Yeah earlier today the entire server was lagging hard. There was nothing I could do about it. The 500 Internal Service Error comes up because the server can't complete your request. Sometimes you will see the IPS Driver Error instead.

yer - I got the IPS Driver Error a few times too - I googled it, but the results didn't offer anything clear as a solution :(

All seems ok this morning tho ;)

  10. Here's what I'm working on atm.. Its a map based on the TW map Riverside Rumble. :P

Only thing is I don't have TW and I've had to base the re-design from screenies available - but its working out quite well. I have a good repro of the centre of the map:

    WARNING - WIDE PICS

    RivR003.jpg

...and there's even a Railway Station

    RivR002.jpg

    There's still a way to go tho - I've decided to make it a 3-player (1v1v1/2v1)

  11. Me. Being light. The world would end if I were... cordial.

...then you have my deepest sympathy ;) (makes note in notebook... Doctor Destiny leaning towards manic depressive side.) :P

  12. Howdy!

Welcome to CNCNZ! You'll encounter several colourful and interesting folks along the way.

    Have a nice day. :)

ty Malevolence - warm greeting  and I'm looking forward to it.

  13. Normally I have a bot-like greeting for everyone but coming on accusing this is not going to gain you any friends. If you bothered to check the download page, you are credited as the author, dip****.

Hey Doctor Destiny - No accusations were made and it wasn't my intention to offend anyone.

I'm really pleased that my maps have been used... so no need to start off on the wrong foot ;) I did check the d/l and saw that I was credited as the author. My comment was tongue-in-cheek and meant in a jocular vein.

Hope ya can lighten up a little.:mellow:

  14. Hello CNCNZ!

Gren here from the UK. I traced a couple of my maps to this site. Central Conflict Redux and Pentathica were both made by me and it seems they have been submitted by Mr Sonic.

Thank-you Mr Sonic  they say that emulation is quite a compliment, and I hope you have mentioned somewhere in the map that I am the original author?

Anyway, now I know where this site is I can manage to upload my other maps myself, providing they are approved by the moderators, of course. B)

I'm currently working on a few more which I will release directly to CNCNZ as soon as they are finished and tested.

    Hope you enjoy them.

    Cheers :D
