Is this how PC gaming is like in the future?

I miss the days where consoles were simple as putting a disc in the drive or cartridge in a slot and just play it.
  2. C&C95 actually refers to "Command & Conquer for Windows 95" (aka C&C Gold) which came out in 1997. The original DOS version came out in 1995 and got the semi-official subtitle "Tiberian Dawn" not too long after.

Is this how PC gaming is like in the future?

Steam saturates the 50 mbps line I have here just fine. One of my friends which lives in a university dormitory and has a about a 500 mbps line downloads games as fast as his hard drive can keep up. If by dying you mean being one of the fastest growing gaming platforms, then yes it is.
  4. Engineers aka master painters. Have you seen anyone else painting a building that fast?
  5. Unless you play the PlayStation and Saturn versions of C&C.
  6. RA1 was always refereed to as a prequel to C&C1 even pre-release. http://www.cgwmuseum.org/galleries/issues/cgw_149.pdf Page 52 Or just hear Adam Isgreen talk about it: https://picasaweb.google.com/113361105083292812413/RedAlertVideoArchive#6157603183682448930 However this changed when Red Alert 2 was announced and we ended up with the different universes we have today.
  7. I like C&C1 the most and RA1 second. Followed by TS, Generals and RA2. However I do think RA1 and RA2 are by many one of the most fondly remembered games in the series.

    What happened to Planetary Annihilation?

Planetary Annihilation is an interesting game with many cool elements. However having only one faction makes the game dull after a while and it can get a bit complex once you land on different planets and moons essentially having to play TA on many different maps simultaneously...

Does C&C Generals work on Windows 10?

There is a newer version of the TS installer with better support for Windows 10. More info.

    Any good screen recording software

You could take a look at OBS Studio (entire rewrite of OBS) which doesn't require a DX10 graphics card and even runs on Windows XP (and non Windows OSes) if I remember correctly. Do keep in mind that recording a game while playing is very resource intensive. Your computer with those specs is not able to record in very high quality. Maybe in 480p.
  11. Windowed mode can be force enabled by going into Sun.ini and setting Video.Windowed= to yes (This was introduced in Hyperpatch which this patch is based on) careful though as the config tool might change this again if you use it. TS Windowed Mode does work in Win8 and up. Game.exe just needs to be set to 16-bit colour emulation mode. Depending on the system and driver it can work poorly though. When I tested it 1366 x 768 didn't work in RA1. It used to in earlier versions of the high res patch before the sidebar reacted to resolution changes.
  12. This could actually be a problem with the Windows installer system. What version of Windows do you have?
  13. A fun fact is that the Nod flame tank in C&C1 is also known as the "Pyradon" Picture taken of a page from the original C&C DOS manual.

The 50 most important PC games of all time

I see that they actually mentioned BF1942, but it seems to be missing Operation Flashpoint one of the first games that had large scale combined arms combat depicting real hardware. The Heroes of Might and Magic series was great. I played Heroes 2 the must though. The list seems to be missing Tennis for Two as well.
  15. Red Alert 1 had a slightly different logo as well. From the CnC Source gallery - Original ad This is pre-release box art and logo from the RA1 demo There's another RA1 logo as well. and another Sole Survivor had a different logo too. There are also the different TS logos, but they were only shown in the Platinum edition manual if I remember correctly.

The 50 most important PC games of all time

I agree that C&C and Fallout should've been mentioned as well as WarCraft, Codename Eagle (or Battlefield 1942) and Homeworld. Regardless I think it is a good list. I don't think Renegade X should've been mentioned. It is a good game, but it didn't provide anything new or had a impact on the games industry.
  17. Because I have them and fiddle with them occasionally.

  19. Nod's "God" is not Kane, Kane is the Messiah as he says in Tiberian Sun to Hassan: "Rule of the thumb Hassan, you can't kill the Messiah!" Or as Seth says in Tiberian Dawn when you first see him. "I am Seth, just... Seth. From God to Kane to Seth, I am his right hand." The name Kane refers to the biblical Cain who was banished to walk the land of Nod forever, never dying. As for the article he makes some mistakes when referring to TS saying that Nod uses nukes and has replaced concrete walls with laser fencing while in fact Nod still has and uses concrete walls.
  20. Some mods re-enable some of these old units that were left over. In the editor by default you can even place a unused drone and tank from the early days of Generals. Depending on what you define "real 3D" you have C&C for the Nintendo 64 from 1999
  21. Indeed. Would've been more effective if the art style of Renegade matched the one of C&C1 closer though. For example the CY in Renegade is closer to the TS CY than the C&C1 CY.
  22. The first commando mission (GDI mission 6, Nod mission 9) looks nothing like that. The "screenshot" might actually be photoshopped together, at least parts of it, like the road leading to the power plant and the hovercraft.

    Free Game Engine

None of the engines for C&C games are free as the source code for them was never released. The closest you get is OpenRA which are currently expanding to support TS and RA2 like features as well they have previews out for that. Otherwise you can look at other engines like Spring, Stratagus. But since you seemly are looking to create a commercial (and most likely proprietary) product you should look more in the way of Unity, Unreal Engine and CryEngine.
  24. I think you are confusing a bunch of things here. UEFI is not a filesystem, it is a BIOS replacement. NTFS is a filesystem. GPT is a partition table like the older MBR. DVD's do not use NTFS, but UDF. Now the P5Q SE is a LGA775 motherboard. It has a normal BIOS, not a UEFI.
