  1. I'm reminded of the sage quote about "pleasing all the people all the time"... which must be your screensaver at the moment! Which brings two other quotes that seem relevant... And it's really good to have you post here, hopefully more often in the future. Thanks for the detailed/lengthy response. I appreciate it. If it came to a vote of interest, I would like to see the different variations of the logo too. Perhaps this will only be possible after the logo is 'final' but please release them. I think it's interesting because I go through hundreds of versions before I settle on something. My main feedback about the logo that I'd like you to remember is that emphasis of the "three" supersedes the "C&C" and it should be the other way around. I previously suggested colour swap... but that was just an idea - I guess the background will have a greater impact on what sticks out. -gben
  2. Well when I read your post Sonic - I didn't even notice your comment about bailing at first. Obviously King's was more obvious and had to be taken more seriously... I was going to post a rebuttle to the other posts - pointing out that it was only King talking about giving up... until I re-read your original post and finally noticed the line. So I thought I'd lurk until you answered yourself... it's fun to guess what's going on in EALA's minds... but you have a keyboard and an express your own opinions, right! Still it's good to know I read your intention correctly, and good to know that CNCNZ is going to kick on. (nice to finally get a post from predator/gatherer/scavenger/online shopper or whoever he is... helped boost the interactivity eh!) -gben
  3. Yeah have a cuppa tea and a good lie down first... -gben
  4. Leaving the C&C community or closing this site down are disapointing reactions to contemplate let alone hear... I never really addressed it earlier in my post but there is no danger of it happening with me. Although the lack of responses to blog seems to indicate it's already happened... he he... and noone's bothered to turn off the lights! I was thinking overnight that perhaps a new poll is in order about the overall direction of EA with C&C3. I think EA is under-represented in the complaints department when you consider they have got some crucial things right... - getting joe for kane - attempting to assemble a quality cast for the fmv's - creating a 'writers bible' for the fiction/cannon of the universe (maybe the alternative is a 'bug' thread for C&C3! LOL! What has EA got wrong, oh so very wrong?!?) Ok... I was suprised by some of the directions they have taken (mechs, blue zones, crystals etc) and while most of the publicaly released explanations can be construed as spin-doctoring... at least they are trying to create coherant and interdependant relationships between all the various pieces. Like in the TV episode I saw last night "we need to see the whole (chess) board before making our moves". I'm on record as saying by and large that I like most of the directions, so keep that in mind when I say TSun was poorly conceived in terms of fiction... and ended with a very limited scope of extended story. It's like the Highlander movies - a great idea - but poor writing left highligher 1 with a closed ending, so that all three sequels have really bizarre mechanisms for the suspension-of-disbelief to get back into the game. (And they never really learned that lesson! LOL!) Rocky 1 is a great example for successful spam sequels. The open-ended climax made the sequel (Rocky2) an obvious artisitic choice and a big money winner! I'll put the dictionary away now, and sum up by saying... I think EA is creating a new fiction and new environment thats better suited to making sequels (and therefore more money). I think it's to be expected that new artists with old material have different ideas and interpretations, and it's a good thing. Give the guys a break.
  5. Well this is clearly a stretch but the C&C link is this... the actor Lorenzo Adams Lamas was in the US TV show called "Renegade". http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001444/ And alphabear... the date from the swedish one has indeed been changed since I posted it so it's not just you. I tried to find a cached version of what I saw... but no luck. You believe me right... it's not swamp gasses no matter what the corporations are telling you... Don't believe the lies and propaganda! -gben
  6. These links were pointed out over at Planet C&C... http://www.electronicarts.se/games/8654/ has a countdown of 115 days... on the C&C3 page The German site apparently has something similar, but I can't read/speak german and the google translator is taking too long... -gben
  7. Yeah the "3" logo looks silly... It really sticks out, indicating the emphasis is in the wrong place - are we looking for a game called "3" or a "C&C" game??? It would probably be much better looking if they simply reversed the colours so that C&C was green... or maybe the traditional gold with tiberium wars in green? Comparing the two, the other three doesn't look so bad... I was going to suggest a more futuristic font for the three. But the old C&C font back is a big plus. I was thinking the roman numerals idea probably would've been a good idea expect AOE has already used it. It's C&C 3, we have 3 sides for the first time - it would be good to see some parallels between the three logo and the three sides... ... which all know is GDI, NOD and the cast from "Dancing with the Stars". -gben
  8. I was never online in the 'old days' so I can't compare what EA and Westwood. Westwood really seemed like a family though, and EA is clearly a business first. I can cut EA some slack unlike 'Capt Grumpy' who seems to be grossly over-reacting to anything and everything IMO. I guess I've got lower expectations and I'm not burden by any comparisons. Every day, every moment is unique and can never be repeated. Perhaps the euphoria of the golden days of our "childhood's" will always be better in our memories... but that's a discussion in another reply. And I think the 3 looks silly too but that's also a discussion for a different reply. -gben

    XBox 360 C&C 3 Interview

Yeah great times in the old days... the SP missions of the original C&C were the absolute best of times. The frustration and eventual triumph or working out the solutions to problems is always very satisfying... like the mission where gdi lands their mcv under fire from 2/3 nod turrets or that nod mission where the river splits the nod forces and the gdi patrol boat goes through... and of course my all-time favoute mission the first time nod *cheats* and builts an obby in the middle of nowhere to attack your miners as they go past... so when I ran out of money I had to use my 2/3 orcas to kill it and let my miner get past, repeat the obby kill to get the miner back into base and repeat endlessly until I had the cashflow so I could take on nod again... I'm sure it's more a question of my noobie playing skills - but new games definetly don't have the same style or substance in the SP experience as when I first started playing C&C... They're talking this up in C&C3... so hopefully it comes through for me. -gben

    XBox 360 C&C 3 Interview

I'm still too old-school to even contemplate playing a RTS right now or even a FPS on a console for that matter... I'm just too rigidly used to a keyboard/mouse. And yet consoles are obviously the way of the future, and as demand matches creativity, hopefully it will translate into truely intuitive UI's and controllers. (HA - I can still remember playing Duke Nukem 3d with just a keyboard - and just getting pwned by a friend playing with a mouse at a friendly LAN game of QUAKE... So if they can solve the controller problem, then it will surely point to the end of PC gaming.) It's also hard to imagine how simultaneous releases on multiple platforms does not hinder the development and refinenment of both products. Why release 2 poor releases when you could release 1 good one? Sigh  But the day when multiplayer games are not dependant on your console or hardware... ie Xbox v PS v PC is a day to look forward too! -gben
  11. hmm thinking about the countdown... about what traditionally has a countdown? Days before the Ashes cricket series start... Time for new years eve celebrations... Top 20 music videos... Worst Dressed Celebrity awards... Last day of school... and possibly launches of NOD missles at certain geosynchronous GDI space stations starting with the letter "P"??? (Hmm just noticed the brotherhood of nod is launching a fatal missle strike against the space station named after the city philadelphia which means the city of brotherly love doesn't it?
  12. ... sounds like ea are finally having some fun with their IP. Bring it on. (Really like the work down on parchment. Technical question - is that all done with computers or do you think it's been physically rendered?) -gben
  13. yup - I'm still a fanboy. -gben
  14. Cool! Does anyone know whether a definitive list of fan-created videos for the first decade pack exists? I think this would make a great addition to the anniversary section seeing as we couldn't see them on the DVD due to 'copyright' restrictions... which is pretty lame. (I mean what... they couldn't have thought the process through and realised this would be a potential problem? Couldn't they have updated the competition rules and warned submitters to only use C&C music and remove offending TM and © issues with other company's) I'm not talking about hosting the files (although that would be cool) simply a link to the video on youtube or any other host would be sufficient... the top ten... maybe you could even launch a user database of C&C related fan videos online - that would be nice! -gben

  17. Well TD had 1 aircraft each team (orca & hind???) TS - GDI had 3 aircraft and (fighter, bomber, carryall) NOD 2 (banshee & harpy) But I don't think it's really relevant to have more aircraft unless they can't truely interact with each other (ie dogfight, dodge etc). In ZH they only seems that "first in best dressed" is the rule for air combat... even though they have 7 different air units (raptor, aurora, stealth, apache, chinook, mig, helix - 8 if you include drones I guess). But I don't play it online much so I'm happy to be corrected. As a mainly 'building-killer' unit - I think limited numbers of aircraft are okay. (Using them to pick of individual units - ie harvestors - is besides the point). I liked the RA2 style - it was simple and effective to me each unit with particular strengths and weakness (superfast and weak armoured harriers v superslow super strong kirovs). Balance is a must, but sameness is blah... What's the point of giving each side a fast powerful jet like in the Mental Omega Mod??? Or making Allied Prism tanks strongly or adding a heavy allied tank to match the soviets... these ideas disrupt the idealogy of the game sides... rather Deezire should've allowed vehicles to be produced cheaper when the allies build the ore purifer or something - so that the allies tanks easier to build sufficient numbers to match the soviets. Why not, for example, develop new units that fit into existing technological trees... like developing air-raid balloons for the soviets as a stationary air defense that explode when enemy air units stray too close. But I digress...
  18. This is a re-post - because I wasn't sure if anyone saw my previous post before the new changes. But if you re-watch the gameplay videos from Leipzig, you will notice that the building/unit cues and the unit information only appear when the relevant item is selected. I think this helps in reducing the apparent clutter, and I wanted to point that out. -gben

    New Look for CNCNZ.com

I like the integrated news/forums too...
  20. Wow an impressive cast... of course that's what we were all thinking for TibSun... and that seemed like a waste of talent story-wise. I hope they learned the lesson and talk to us (the player) not to each other... And i really want a good climatic final video worthy of investing X hours into it... y'know like the orc video in WCIII.

    Ion Storms = Superweapon?

Of course the more powerful the SW... the more incentive to counter-attack. Maybe what SW's need are audible countdowns for opposing players... that would really increase the tension! Do you think some sort of way-point system would work for SW so that you could set up a SW weapon to attack a certain place "as sonn as it was available". One of the things the computer is good at is, using all abilities when the timer is ready... I wonder how much the gameplay would be affected with this sort of auto-destruction-of-the-world? I too would enjoy a defensive SW, but I guess this will never happen because it just increases the tendency to turtle. Unless you create specific game modes where one team attacks and the other defends for time-limits... it could work. -gben
  22. I agree it should be "twilight" to connect with it's history. But I do like "wars" in it's own right. It might make a good enough sub-heading if they are trying to win the longest game title from current champions: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords...... or maybe they should just keep it title for the inevitable expansion pack?!? Works for me. -gben

    Ion Storms = Superweapon?

Yeah more options are cool... I would kinda like a "slider" option for Super-Weapons... you know from 0 to 1, to 2, to 3 and so on - I guess up to infinity if you had the cash and were bored. I always enjoyed the ability to limit maps/games to specific weapons, outfits and kit accessories in Rogue Spear Multiplayer games. It was kinda a in-house handicap system for our lan-parties but also for variety we could mess around with messed-up match-ups... if we wanted to just play with c4 or shutguns with rubber bulletes then we could - ok it was dumb but it was our choice. I always like the mods that present different multiplayer options. For instance, I enjoy the RA2 mods that allow minor super-weapons only and not the nuke's etc... for that increased strategic feel. I mean, for fun, I would go for a multiplayer "option" of a *really* super-weapon with the truley destructive ability to destroy *everything* in it's radius but with a severly nurfed timer - like 30mins. More pressure to stop the timer... because when that superweapon does go off it really was a game winner. Well sounds like fun to me, like a Starcraft map with limited resouses! -gben
