  1. Aircraftkiller, a former Red Alert: A Path Beyond developer, has posted a new video of his latest C&C Renegade map, C&C Fjords. The map runs on Tiberian Technologies' Scripts 4.0 and features the Tiberian Dawn atmosphere and units.

A Renegade level based on Hammerfest from Tiberian Sun, during the First Tiberium War. Go back in time and glimpse Hammerfest as it was before you retook it in the GDI campaign. The GDI base is built up and formidable, but the Nod base has just recently been built. Reports indicate that their new Shrine of Nod is active. Don't let them win! This is a modified level and does not play like Renegade.

You can download the C&C Fjords map for Renegade from CNCNZ.com using the link below.

We also have all of the Renegade maps that have been made by Aircraftkiller over the year featured in our Renegade Multiplayer Maps section.

  2. In recent developments, the C&C Renegade mod, C&C Reborn has announced that it will be closing its forums soon. Chronojam from Bluehell Productions has invited everybody who was formerly registered on the C&C Reborn forums to register on the Bluehell Productions forums.

    PzqB0.png

Bluehell Productions is known for working on two projects using the W3D engine, Red Alert: A Path beyond and Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising, both standalone modifications are total conversions for Command & Conquer: Renegade. Any announcements of what will become of C&C Reborn have not yet been made. You can read the official announcement here.

  3. CNCNZ.com talks to Zunnie, the developer of the C&C Renegade mod called Tiberium Crystal War.

    0nRui.jpg

What ideas were you conflicted about?

The former leadership was kind of rude against members, for one thing. And for example, he did not want Orcas to be bought from the Airfield but from the War Factory. We want to build Tiberium Crystal War with Airfields where you can order an Orca or a Firehawk.

Are we going to see any walkers, like Juggernauts or Avatars?

We plan to include them in the game, yes.

    Read the full interview here.

  4. The Tiberian Technologies team has made an official announcement today, saying they are releasing the public beta version of the latest update for C&C Renegade, Scripts 4.0. The project has been in the works over three and a half years.

    tt.prlogo.png

It has been a long wait indeed, but by now going officially into open beta we're finally delivering on the promise we made in July 2008. We have kept you waiting for quite some time, but we are confident that the build we present today is stable and to our knowledge does not contain any significant bugs. Huge changes are incorporated in the patch, most notably the anti-cheat bits, the map downloader, the auto-updater, but also loads of bugfixes and other improvements, such as a fix for blue hell.

  5. CNCNZ.com was invited earlier this week to try out a new C&C Renegade map, C&C Fjords. The map runs on Tiberian Technologies' Scripts 4.0 and is made by Aircraftkiller, an ex-Red Alert: A Path Beyond developer.

    m63GN.png AQdfy.png daLm0.png

We were able to ask Aircraftkiller a few questions about his latest map:

So why are you making this?

I wanted to make a final present to the Renegade community. Something to give back to the community.

The map is still work in progress?

Yes, but it's mostly complete. There's some extra balancing and some minor tweaking left to do at this point.

The map reminds me of a cancelled C&C Renegade mod called C&C Brotherhood

Those are old photos huh? It looks interesting. A shame that they stopped working on it. But yes, my map is meant to make Renegade feel more Tiberian Dawn-ish. Some of the units like the Mammoth tanks looks like the one from Tiberian Dawn.

Are you going to make everything look like Tiberian Dawn?

Well you might see it eventually. I was building the TD models to 99% accuracy back in 2007. I have the Weapons Factory, Helipad, Power Plant, Advanced Power Plant, Repair Facility models still on my computer. But it would take a lot of work setting them up for Fjord.

  6. CNCNZ.com talks to the development team of the Tiberian Genesis mod, a Tiberian Sun total conversion mod for the CryEngine 2. Sometimes a pleasant interview leads you to talking about new ideas for a mod. The team was willing to let us get away with some exclusive images.

    8xesY.jpg

    Familiar with C&C Reborn?

We’ve talked to them before. We’ve shown them how a model of theirs would look like in CryEngine2 and they were disappointed. I guess they realized that they would have to invest a lot of work in re-doing everything.

So what will make your Tiberian Genesis mod different terms of gameplay?

We're aiming to bring a visually beautiful, immersive, authentic remake of the old Tiberian Sun. It will contain both elements from the old RTS and the newer Renegade game - you will be able to play the soldier, buy your own armour and create squads to outmanoeuvre (and outgun) the enemy, as well as the Commander who will be responsible for building and fortifying the base, make sure the economics are right and keep an overview of the battlefield to support your "troops". Pure RTS mod in view as well.

You can see read the full interview here. See more images on the Tiberian Genesis ModDB website and their Facebook page.

  7. With the Scripts 4.0 for C&C: Renegade test event behind us, CNCNZ.com was able to ask Tiberian Technologies a few questions about the results.

    TTminibanner.jpg

What were you trying to do in this server test?

The goal of this test was to confirm that the server was stable. Since we're planning on a release of the Tiberian Technologies (TT) patch, it is important to have stable TT servers available.

During these tests we also get a lot of response about the TT client, which is currently in private beta testing as well. Some features of the TT client only work when connected with a TT server. Since we want to release both the client and the server at the same time, we need the clients to be able to test as well.

These relatively large scale tests allow the testers to help us with the project and at the same time to have a good time. If we were to limit these events to testers only, the games would be a lot smaller and potentially less interesting.

    How are the results?

We have found and fixed a few more bugs. One bug would have been a real issue when deployed on normal servers. If a player had set their bandwidth setting (very) low it could occur that game messages (such as kill messages, radio commands and some other technical things) were not displayed on that client. Since this is in potential rather important information, it is good that we found it before an open beta.

A different bug that was identified during or around the test event was that spectators could collect weapons and other power ups or open doors. This would make them "visible" and could in potential influence the game, which is obviously something you do not want as spectator.

Besides these bugs there haven't been any reports of new bugs. It shows that little over 3 years of hacking, rewriting and coding does have its benefits. The bug fixing did take up a lot of that time, because we do not have the original source code for Renegade and most things had to be reversed-engineered.

    What's the next step?

Our next big move will be releasing a open beta for both the server and the client. We have an internal release date, but cannot communicate about it just yet. This because we want to give people some more time to submit bug reports from the event and we need to be able to fix them as well. It is however likely that a release is imminent.

We already send out limited test FDS'es to various server owners, so they can start on porting their mods. We hope they will be able launch TT servers as soon as there is an official release.

After a successful open beta test we will of course release a final version of TT scripts 4.0. As soon as we reach this milestone we will contact EA, to discuss whether we can release TT over the official built-in patcher of the game. This would make cheating in Renegade impossible with the currently available cheats. It would also allow us to react much faster to newly released cheats.

  8. The Tiberian Technologies event for testing the final pre-beta Scripts 4.0 for C&C: Renegade is underway and needs players. The website, Renegadeforums.com, on which the information for map downloads are, has crashed. You can find the server's mappack on this website. This is the final pre-beta release test, so they encourage everyone to drop by for a half hour or so.

  9. Slye_Fox, Condition Red mod developer proudly presents his mod. The Condition Red mod will be his take on Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge on the Red Alert 3 engine. "Think of Red Alert 2 in full 3D."

    nYhzA.jpg

Will old school RA2 players, get the same feeling of playing their old game?

Well, being different engines, there will be some differences. But I have focused on making it as closes as possible, within the limitations. Anyone who has played RA2 should easily be able to pick Condition Red up and get right into it. We’re currently focusing on multiplayer.

Why haven't you worked together with Apocalypse Rising on anything?

My models are way too low poly for a Shooter game. I'm not a Renegade coder, or a FPS modeller. Besides I’m looking for something different, I’m making the mod as accurate as possible. So when i make new models, i actually import the original voxel into 3ds and model around it.

  11. The developers of the Tiberian Sun Rising mod for C&C 3: Tiberium Wars have posted screen shots of their freshly remade units, the Nod Recon Bike and the GDI Disruptor, as well as some battle shots. They've also stated that there are at least three graphical tweaks in the units that were shown before, and for each change that a fan finds, they'll show a new screen shot in the next two weeks.

  12. One Winged Angel, Apocalypse Rising mod developer mentions what is to become of his Renegade - Red Alert 2 mod. Some exclusive pictures have been released in the interview.

    zBA7b.jpg

Mods like Renegade X and Tiberian Genesis moved away from the Renegade engine. So why have you guys decided to stick with C&C Renegade?

"There are a number of reasons as to why we are sticking with Renegade's w3d engine. First off, a lot of our fanbase don't have computers which can run the newer engines. This leads onto the second point, which is the fact that although our engine of choice may be old, it is still very much alive thanks to the likes of the team over at Tiberian Technologies.

Another reason why we have chosen to stick with the Renegade Engine is the amount of leeway that EA have given us with it. We are able to release our game as a completely standalone project without having the players require the original C&C Renegade to play. The final reason why we haven't really looked at an engine move is because a lot of our staff members would have to relearn skills to develop content for the new engine.”

  13. The climactic finale of the C&C Community Bracket Game has ended up in a tie. Zero Hour had been going head to head with Yuri's Revenge, both games had each reached 217 votes.

    7DJuC.jpg

Fans have speculated that the polls might be an indication to the upcoming C&C game. This was posted on the Official C&C Forum by EA_CIRE, the C&C community manager.

Well, I had some time to think about it and there can be only one answer to this:

Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge and Generals: Zero Hour are the winner of our little game. There is no right or wrong, both games are just two great C&Cs that a lot of our community members like.

Now it's time to throw both games into a mixer to see if we can create a great Generals: Yuri's Revenge. Oh nooooooo, I gave our mystery away.

Be sure to check out the Official C&C Site for more announcements.

  14. Just recently, The Gaming Liberty.com posted an interview with Kia Huntzinger, the voice of EVA in the classic Command & Conquer games. Kia worked at Westwood Studios for 10 years. Here's a sample.

    YxZtS.jpg

Retroplayer: How did you land your role as EVA in C&C?

Kia: I was working at Westwood at the time. One day Paul Mudra, the head of Audio, asked me to record some placeholder lines for C&C. We often used Westwood employees as placeholder audio during the game development process. Paul took me back to a very small room in the audio building -- I believe it was actually a closet that had been soundproofed. There was barely enough room for me and the microphone. We recorded a bunch of lines and luckily the team liked my voice and asked me to be the voice of EVA for the final product.

Retroplayer: Take us through a typical day of the recording process during the original C&C, Kia.

Kia: Since I was working at the time I didn’t really get to participate in the daylong sessions. During the original C&C we had an off-campus studio that we used to shoot some of the video. For example, the video of my mouth that the player sees during the installation process of C&C was shot over in our tiny studio. Other video was shot on location.

Over the years the process morphed into something very lengthy, costly and intricate, but it helped set C&C apart from other games.
