  1. In English this is perfectly normal though, and the article happens to be in English, so this is faulty reasoning.

I disagree. I understand perfectly why they did it, they simply didn't know better or didn't want to confuse their readers but it's still wrong. Patronyms are never used in any contexts except to distinguish to individuals with the same given name. If I addressed the president I'd not use his last name, it would be stupid. There are people with more traditional family names where you'd maybe use the last names but it's an exception that does not apply here. I mean if I were to make an article in Icelandic about, for example, Barack Obama I wouldn't say: "Barack said this and Barack said that". Even though it's the norm in Iceland to use the first name it's just wrong and even disrespectful when talking about him. Except that that's less wrong, first names are used way more often and more formally in English.

Edit: Also if you'd want to know the man by his name (which the article presumably wants to do) knowing Antonsson does you no favors whatsoever. You can't look it up in any book as it'll always be sorted alphabetically by his first name, people who know him irl will be confused as they use his first name etc. You can also see that on Wikipediathey follow the correct procedure in English articles.

Edit 2: This got way too long for a short point. So nevermind the spoiler.

Main point is that language is irrelevant, his name is what matters. On Wikipedia for example on every entry of an Icelander they specifically mention at the top of the page that this should be avoided as it's wrong.

  2. Okay, this guy is just here downtown and I've never heard of him in my life. I've heard of the company but only in passing. It's just some nobody who got some attention for being an idiot.

(Edit: To clarify, Iceland is such a ridiculously small country (similar to a small city) that pretty much everyone has heard of pretty much everyone worth hearing about. For example everyone knows CCP and most people that are in the video game scene recognize the names of the key people there. This guy does not make the cut.)

On a semi-related note, they spell and treat his name incorrectly. It's Jónas Antonsson and should be referred to as Jónas so [...] in-person or online," Antonsson said. is just wrong. Icelandic patronyms are never used except to distinguish this Jónas from some other Jónas. Considering the nature of patronyms there are no fewer last names than there are first names so it isn't any more telling to use the last name. Understandable mistake but a mistake nevertheless.

  3. Doesn't matter much if it's an MMO or not. The fanbase argument is okayish, but they got their fanbase because they take their time and support the game longer then a few weeks. Same with Blizzard, they support their games for a long duration and get a good fanbase.

And before someone brings up the "Blizzard releases way fewer games in the same time" Guild Wars is the prime example that it works if the fans are just satisfied with the experience, Factions came out a year later, and Nightfall just another half year, and EotN again not even a year later.

Perhaps you're right but I still think this can't be a good thing for the community...

  4. You're implying that a game company has to be "considerate" of you. Be aware that you are nothing more than a number on their demographic spreadsheet, the one cell that says "Unable to play due to system constraints". It isn't designed for you. Get a new system, they're not that expensive. I spent $1,500 to buy a top of the line set of hardware for my modeling and art development in February. You could easily get something to come within 60% of my system specifications for less than $1,000 that will last you quite a few years.

You fail to take into account that you're in the US where hardware is cheap and people have got (relatively) high income. I don't know how it is in Europe (where the biggest fan base is) but where I am at hardware is ridiculously expensive.

  5. Well its easy to post/share anything from these forums, just look for the reddit.png icon at bottom of the page.

Hey, you're right! I hadn't noticed that. I'll definitely use it when the oppurtunity presents itself.

  6. Hey!

I just wanted to plug the recently resurrected C&C subreddit. If any of you are redditors make sure to subscribe. The old moderators (Methuselah and crazy_panda, whoever that is) have been removed because of inactivity and yours truly has been appointed the new moderator. It's very inactive as it is but I'm trying to change it and according to the traffic stats I'm not doing too bad of a job. So if you are a redditor please take a look and subscribe.

  7. Sure they do. ME, Dragon Age and SW:TOR are all RPGs, although it is true that action elements have been introduced. Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree that this rumor was obviously false, but did anyone seriously believe it? I don't speak German so I haven't checked their site but on the official forums no one really took it seriously...

  8. I originally posted this on the official forums but I guess I'll share it here as well:

Much better than last time but there is definitely still room for improvement.

    1. The intro is too damn loud and it ends too abruptly.

    2. Don't make letters flash (like at 0:25), it's highly annoying...

    3. Put all links in the description (http://forums.cncnz.com, links to ALL the fan art etc.), and tell people it's there.

    4. At 2:20 you switch recordings, that's ok and I encourage you to increase the number of cuts but it's too obvious there, try to make it smooth and keep the sound quality consistent.

    5. Encourage people to comment. Who wants to enter some site (which, again, there is no link to) to voice their opinion?

    6. The outro is also way too loud, I was tempted to comment "RIP headphone users".

    7. Improve the description, tell people why you're doing this, who's doing it, etc. It really does improve the professionalism impression.

    8. Be more emotional! This was kinda boring for 2 and a half minutes...

Edit 2: 8. a) Like Luk3us suggested on CNCNZ, a little music in the background might do the trick.

    9. I can't really blame you for not doing it, but I would recommend trying to find some way to increase the sound quality.

    10. Again, I can't really blame you for not doing it, as it takes a lot more effort, but I would recommend making more takes and cutting them.

    11. Consider getting people to work with you. The original team kinda just left, but now that it has actually started I think it will be a lot easier getting people to help.

Edit: 12. If this is going to be a consistent (or not so consistent) show then make it its own YouTube channel.

(13.) I put this in a bracket as it is only my personal opinion. That yellow-greenish colored font is hideous on the blue background.

This is meant in the best possible way and I encourage you to keep it up!
