CnCNet CnCNet Patches Singleplayer Portions of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
For many years now, Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge required elaborate procedures to run smoothly on newer systems. Earlier today, CnCNet released an update for their Yuri's Revenge client, version 4.27, which incorporates compatibility fixes (black screen, Alt+Tab), a wider range of screen resolutions in the ingame menus, LAN capabilities and campaign speed sliders for the singleplayer installations of both Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. This means that you can just install the latest version of the client and run RA2/YR outside that client as you normally would for playing campaigns. It is, however, primarily meant for The First Decade and The Ultimate Collection versions of the games. You owe it to yourselves to get this update. Simply run your existing version of the YR client and let it download the latest update automatically, or if you don't already have it, get it from CnCNet's website. -
There's been a lot of news in the Command & Conquer community to cover, so here's a quick overview of what's going on: The first release of the Red Alert 3 version of the Generals 2 mod has been published. Nyerguds' 1.06c patch for Command & Conquer: Gold received a hotfix (labeled update 4) that resolves a compatibility problem with CnCNet. The updated version of Kane's Wrath 1.02+ map packs, R12b, has been made available. These maps have many issues fixed, and are played by mid- and high-level players. On Saturday, February 18th, the third annual Free-For-All tournament in Kane's Wrath took place, lasting a total of six hours. Recorded live commentary by IISpartacus (joined in finals by Masterleaf) is available . Yesterday, CnCSaga.com found 7 more pieces of concept art from the cancelled Red Alert Alliances, which show that the Empire of the Rising Sun was also to appear. The CnCNet spawner code for Tiberian Sun has been made open to the public on GitHub, with the languages being C and x86 Assembler. Check out more news in our C&C Community News forum. If you have any community news of your own you want to share, feel free to send us a news tip.

What a great way to start the new year. The team over at CnCNet have announced that they have achieved a new record for players online. 801 players we recorded online on the second day of 2017. Lots of people still playing the classics like Red Alert and Yuri's Revenge, which I think also achieved new individual records of their own. And who says Command & Conquer is dead?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOKyC6LjOBs The video above, made by Project Phoenix Media, is a great tutorial that shows you how to get Yuri's Revenge up and running to play online via CnCNet. It supports either the original release of the game or the Origin version. So perhaps you recently grabbed Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge for free from Origin's On the House promotion and you are looking to play online. And yes, this also works for Windows 10 users.

To many months have gone by since the poll was changed. So the good news is we finally have a new one. The new poll is, Which community based C&C multiplayer services do you play on? Do you play on C&C:Online (Generals/C&C 3/Kane's Wrath/Red Alert 3), perhaps you play the classics on XWIS (C&C/Red Alert/Tiberian Sun /Red Alert 2/Renegade) or do you still keep retro and go with CnCNet (C&C/Red Alert/Tiberian Sun /Red Alert 2). You can vote for just one of them or all three if you like. And of course there is an option for those who don't use any of them. To vote in this poll you need to be on the main page of our site, and cast your vote in the poll box on the right side bar. You can also check the the current results in the Poll Archives. And, as always, don't forget to share any feedback or comments about this poll as well. Lets review the previous poll, How do you feel about the Official C&C Forums being closed down? 68% of the people who voted said they were fine with the Official C&C Forums shutting up shop. Full results can be found in the Poll Archives.

As much as I enjoyed playing the campaigns in all the C&C games, well almost all of them, I always took my time tackling each objective to accomplish the mission. I guess this series of video shows the direct approach works just as effectively. Watch as the CnCNet team shows you how to . That's the first mission above, all done in 2 minutes and 59 seconds. to watch the rest.

The team behind CnCNet has been quite busy in the past few months. They have launched their own YouTube channel and appointed a new administrator, neogrant. They are currently working on ladders for currently supported games, as well as support for Yuri's Revenge, which will pioneer a new version of the CnCNet client. They are also currently recruiting experienced RA2/YR players and modders to help test and develop support for Yuri's Revenge. If you are able to help, contact Iran or neogrant or join the CnCNet developer chatroom at irc.freenode.net (channel #cncnet). For more information, read this post on our forums.

Fan-Made Online Services for C&C Peak in Numbers Yet Again
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
2015 couldn't have started better for community-made multiplayer services for C&C games. Yesterday, on January 4th, CnCNet's player count record was set to a whopping 512, cumulated from all supported games and mods! On the same day, C&C:Online's SpyMaster was fixed in the early morning, and what was seen afterwards surprised everyone - the player counts kept rising to such an extent that it was hard to make a screenshot, as the number just kept going up until it neared cca 340, cumulated from all supported games. This is wonderful news for everyone interested in multiplayer modes of Command & Conquer games and we hope it will not stop here. -

TL:DR version: CnCNet 5 is awesome! Took a long time to make and test! TS and RA2 not supported yet! Download here! After over a year of work and testing CnCNet 5 has finally been deemed stable enough for an official release! Compared to CnCNet 4, CnCNet 5 is coded from scratch and takes advantage of the online systems Westwood implemented into the games. CnCNet 5 has a external lobby system which gets rid of the old and buggy LAN lobby. No more games disappearing or glitches related to kicking people from the game. You can also say good bye to lag caused by the LAN netcode as previously hinted to CnCNet 5 makes use of the WOL netcode making games go smooth. CnCNet 5 works perfectly despite closed ports due to the improved tunnelling system which also lets multiple people in the same household play with people online. The CnCNet 5 lobby uses an IRC server which allows you to send private messages, make passworded lobbies game and to communicate with players. You can connect using a normal IRC client as well, but you won't have any game functionality. Currently CnCNet 5 supports Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Support for Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is in the works as is other Westwood Online enabled games, maybe even a game where you fight over a certain "waterless world". Below are a list of changes to the individual games: Command & Conquer - Over 160 maps to choose from by default. - New option: Auto Crush Infantry - New option: MCV Undeploy - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Over 430 maps to choose from by default. - Automatic transfer of custom maps - Choose starting location - Choose alliance - New option: Fix Formation Exploit - New option: Fix Range Exploit - 12 other new game options - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Iran is working on it with help from CCHyper! If you are interested in following development look here: http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=498086 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Needs a developer, if you are interested go to irc.freenode.net in the channel #cncnet. CnCNet 5 would not have been possible if it weren't for the hard work of hifi (backend), FunkyFr3sh (frontend) and Iran (tons of new features in the games). Features such as ladder etc will come soon. CnCNet provides ready to play versions of both Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert.

As you may or may not know, CnCNet 5 is in a testing phase now, but it's slowly nearing a full release. This version significantly improves upon CnCNet 4, adding an integrated IRC server and tunneled server support, enabling the player to organize multiplayer matches easier and chat with other players, all without having to run the option-limited menus in the game itself. It also adds completely new features to the games themselves. Here are some of them: Map previews Observer mode and co-op support for Red Alert Team and starting position selection for Red Alert Automatic map transfer Giant map database with search function and categories Advanced game options (e.g. undeployable MCVs, range/formation exploit fixes, Aftermath build cap fix...) Also, the team is working on introducing ranked games and a ladder system in the near future. They will also welcome anyone interested in adding support for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2. To download the client, visit the related thread on the C&C Communications Center by clicking here.

CnCNet v3, well 3.1a to be exact, has been announced by the CnCNet team. CnCNet is a small tool that allows you to easily play the C&C classics games such as Command & Conquer, Red Alert and Tiberian Sun with their expansion packs, online with other people. The very latest version now supports Red Alert 2 with Yuri's Revenge. CnCNet now uses dedicated servers instead of relying on peer to peer (P2P), this means that the old port-forwarding requirement is a thing of the past. P2P functionality is still there for those who still like to use it. Get the full details about CnCNet v3 by reading this thread in our Community News forum. Or simply visit the CnCNet official site.

Greetings Command & Conquer Community! It has been a long time since there has been any announcement from CnCNet spread around the community. Our last announcement was CnCNet v2, but today we announce something much greater: CnCNet v3! (3.1a to be exact as of this writing) A lot has happened since our last announcement. For instance CnCNet now uses dedicated servers instead of relying on peer to peer (P2P), this means that the old portforwarding requirement is gone, further advancing our goal of just install and play. P2P functionality is still there if you wish to use it. It is useful if ever our servers should go down or you have high latency to our servers (housed in the United States and the United Kingdom) and your opponent is close to you geographically. CnCNet also got a permanent home at www.cncnet.org! Using dedicated servers has many advantages: No portforwarding, no router or firewall setup (unless your firewall is very restrictive), It just works™ even in restrictive networks such as schools. (remember you are there to study, not to play C&C sadly enough). CnCNet now fully supports all classic C&C games, yes that means Command & Conquer (Covert Operations), Red Alert (Counterstrike, Aftermath), Tiberian Sun (Firestorm) and a newcomer Red Alert 2 (Yuri's Revenge). [The Red Alert lobby is pretty active as illustrated below] To get started simply give CnCNet.org a visit! Days of C&C online gaming are waiting!
