  1. The official Command & Conquer website has been redesigned to a mere placeholder page. The forums are removed, at least from public view, all information on long since Command & Conquer game are gone, and there is only a link to the Tiberium Alliances site and forums and a purchase link for The Ultimate Collection. What does this mean? The site was mostly ignored by EA officials after C&C2013 was cancelled with next to no work done on it whatsoever until now. Could this mean something is in the pipeline? UPDATE: The change was completely rolled back and the site looks like it has before. The forums are back online as well.
  2. Following on from the news last week about CommandAndConquer.com, the official site for all things Command & Conquer, being changed to a place holder site and then rolled back to the original site again in less than a day. Looks like the place holder site is back once again. There is no mention of the cancelled Command & Conquer game any more, only a link to the Tiberium Alliances site and forums and a purchase link for The Ultimate Collection remain. From what I've heard this change has been in the pipe line for awhile. But there still no word on the future of the franchise.
  3. While the future of the official C&C forums is still uncertain, new events have taken place. Those of you who have bookmarks that used to lead to the forums may have noticed that the link currently redirects to the Tiberium Alliances forums. The Tiberium Alliances community manager, EA_Fixnow, has created a special subforum there, called simply "Command & Conquer Franchise", with 4 boards: one for general chat and one for each series. You can read his statement below: You can check the subforum out by clicking here.
  4. WatchMojo.com have been posting Top 10 videos for a long time now, spanning many categories. One of the latest is their "Top 10 Video Game Armies", and Command & Conquer's Brotherhood of Nod is included. I won't say what position it comes in though, you'll just have the watch the video below to find out. Another good one to watch is their , and once again Command & Conquer gets a mention.
  5. The official forums for Command & Conquer have been a bit of a grave yard in the past few months, understandably since there is nothing happening with the Command & Conquer franchise right now from EA's direction. However reports have come through that the Official Command & Conquer Forums are currently offline. There is no statement from EA as to why, not that one can be expected anyway. But rumours suggest they have been closed temporarily to fix a security leak someone tried to exploit recently. An update will be made when and if they return.
  6. The new look CnCNet site was launched earlier today. Sporting a fresh and modern design, complete with a new logo. It includes all of the information you need to play the classic games such as Command & Conquer, Red Alert and more online. If you look close enough around the new site you will find certain hints on what's to come next. Visit the CnCNet now to see it for yourself.
  7. Gamers Nexus have posted a new article and video interview with Pat Pannullo, a former Command & Conquer developer at Westwood Studios. He currently the Lead Designer for Grey Goo from Petroglyph and GreyBox. In this interview, Gamers Nexus had the opportunity to ask the former Tiberian Sun and Red Alert developers about RTS as a genre, its future, and quite simply, where it seems to have gone. After you have watched the video you can read the full article right here.
  8. On the 31st of August 1995, Westwood Studios released Command & Conquer, the RTS classic that started it all, it revolutionized the gaming industry and captured the imagination of millions of fans around the world. Arguably, Command & Conquer is the sole reason why the RTS genre is one of the most popular categories of PC gaming. And so today the original game turns 19 years old. I and many other C&C fans surely remember the classic and gruesome scene of Kane introducing himself to you, as the player. You know where he blows away Seth in a brutal and bad-ass manner. Relive that moment below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOWw2Iu2a4M How did you discover Command & Conquer? what is your most memorable Command & Conquer memory from the original game? Share them with us in this thread on our forums.
  9. What was once buried away inside our forums is now a full feature on the main site. 50 different bits of Command & Conquer Trivia, spread across 5 pages. Some of it you may know, but perhaps there are some you don't know. It spans the entire franchise and includes lots of images and videos. Click here to read them all. Thanks to Plokite_Wolf for collecting these.
  10. The Bitbag has recently posted a new article called The Future of PC War: Where is Command and Conquer Going? It takes a very quick look back at the history of the franchise, reviews the cancellation of the last game, and then attempts to explain the current status of our favourite franchise. A sample can be read below. Follow this link to read the full article.
  11. The main problem with the full game download pack of the C&C95 v1.06 patch has always been the lack of videos. Well, two years after the last patch release, this issue is finally addressed. The downloads section of the ModDB page of Project 1.06 now contains video packs for English, French and German. On top of that, the addons section has video addon packs which can be added to the game on top of the main videos pack, which allows the game to switch videos as you switch to a different language. One of these video addon packs, notably, is the Spanish one, made to accompany the Spanish language pack. It contains subtitled versions of the English videos, created by wolfstain: More information can be found in the news article on ModDB.
  12. For quite some time we have had the Freeware Classic Command & Conquer Games available for download from CNCNZ.com. These were all made available for free by EA at various stages. By popular demand, the add-ons Covert Operations for Command & Conquer, Counterstrike and Aftermath for Red Alert can now be downloaded as well. These are ISOs made from the original CDs. Command & Conquer: Covert Operations Red Alert: Counterstrike Red Alert: Aftermath Click on the links above for the downloads. You will also find them on the Freeware Classic Command & Conquer Games page.
  13. I'm putting together a new feature for CNCNZ.com and it requires some input from you, the long time Command & Conquer fan. What you need to do is share with us your favourite, most memorable or simply the most awesome moment from any of the Command & Conquer games. The moment that makes you simile, laugh or think "now that was bad ass!". For example, it could be a scene stealing moment such as when Kane makes his announced appearance during the Soviet campaign in the original Red Alert. For me, it was such an unexpected moment, Kane barely says a word, but his presence was so powerful. So what's your favourite Command & Conquer moment? Or moments. Share them with us in this topic. It will also help if you include a screenshot and describe why you like the moment so much.
  14. Here is some interesting reading material for you. Its an article called Real-Time Strategy “Level Design”, its actually the follow up to a previous article written by the same person. Basically both articles take a detailed look at some of the missions in the original Command & Conquer, more specially from the “Covert Operations” expansion. Here's a sample. Follow this link to read the full article. You should also have a read of part one as well.
  15. Believe it or not, for the first time ever I've written an article for CNCNZ.com. Its something I've never focused on in the past. I'm no professional writer but I thought I'd attempt to come up with possible directions for Command & Conquer in this article, called The Future of the Command & Conquer Franchise, I discuss restarting the Command & Conquer free to play project, returning to Command & Conquer: Generals 2, rebooting Command & Conquer or how about another Command & Conquer FPS? Here's part of it. Click here to read the full article. Share you own comments and don't forget there is a poll at the end of the article as awell, so vote on what you think is best way to go for the future of Command & Conquer.
  16. Its great to find these little lost gems on YouTube. Here's a great fan made Command & Conquer tribute video. Its set the music "Destructible Times" by I Am, Frank Klepacki's former band. This track also featured in the credits of the Brotherhood of Nod ending in the original Command & Conquer. If you find an other cool fan made Command & Conquer videos let us know.
  17. Red Pages Podcast recently interviewed Ed Del Castillo. He was a producer who worked on the original Command & Conquer at Westwood Studios. In this lengthy podcast Ed discusses Command & Conquer and other related projects. Some of the questions were submitted by members from our forums. Click here to listen to this podcast, the Command & Conquer discussion with Ed Del Castillo begins around the 1:08:45 mark.
  18. For the past couple of days we have been asking fans to share a photo or photos of their Command & Conquer collections on our Facebook page. All of the games, T-Shirts and other memorabilia you have amassed over the years. We know there are many long time fans of the franchise so now we want you to show us. Show us how dedicated you are. We have already shared many of the photos from other Command & Conquer fans on the CNCNZ.com Facebook page for others see. Its proven rather popular so far. Head over there and check them out. If you have a collection you would like to share post it on our Facebook page, or just as a reply in this news thread. I'm now wondering if we can get any of the CNCNZ.com team to share their collection?
  19. After over a year of work and testing CnCNet 5 has finally been released and its available for download now. CnCNet 5 supports Command & Conquer and Red Alert. Support for Tiberian Sun is coming. CnCNet allows you to easily play the C&C classics online with other people. CnCNet 5 released!

TL:DR version: CnCNet 5 is awesome! Took a long time to make and test! TS and RA2 not supported yet! Download here! After over a year of work and testing CnCNet 5 has finally been deemed stable enough for an official release! Compared to CnCNet 4, CnCNet 5 is coded from scratch and takes advantage of the online systems Westwood implemented into the games. CnCNet 5 has a external lobby system which gets rid of the old and buggy LAN lobby. No more games disappearing or glitches related to kicking people from the game. You can also say good bye to lag caused by the LAN netcode as previously hinted to CnCNet 5 makes use of the WOL netcode making games go smooth. CnCNet 5 works perfectly despite closed ports due to the improved tunnelling system which also lets multiple people in the same household play with people online. The CnCNet 5 lobby uses an IRC server which allows you to send private messages, make passworded lobbies game and to communicate with players. You can connect using a normal IRC client as well, but you won't have any game functionality. Currently CnCNet 5 supports Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Support for Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is in the works as is other Westwood Online enabled games, maybe even a game where you fight over a certain "waterless world". Below are a list of changes to the individual games: Command & Conquer - Over 160 maps to choose from by default. - New option: Auto Crush Infantry - New option: MCV Undeploy - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Over 430 maps to choose from by default. - Automatic transfer of custom maps - Choose starting location - Choose alliance - New option: Fix Formation Exploit - New option: Fix Range Exploit - 12 other new game options - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Iran is working on it with help from CCHyper! If you are interested in following development look here: http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=498086 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Needs a developer, if you are interested go to irc.freenode.net in the channel #cncnet. CnCNet 5 would not have been possible if it weren't for the hard work of hifi (backend), FunkyFr3sh (frontend) and Iran (tons of new features in the games). Features such as ladder etc will come soon. CnCNet provides ready to play versions of both Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
  21. As you may or may not know, CnCNet 5 is in a testing phase now, but it's slowly nearing a full release. This version significantly improves upon CnCNet 4, adding an integrated IRC server and tunneled server support, enabling the player to organize multiplayer matches easier and chat with other players, all without having to run the option-limited menus in the game itself. It also adds completely new features to the games themselves. Here are some of them: Map previews Observer mode and co-op support for Red Alert Team and starting position selection for Red Alert Automatic map transfer Giant map database with search function and categories Advanced game options (e.g. undeployable MCVs, range/formation exploit fixes, Aftermath build cap fix...) Also, the team is working on introducing ranked games and a ladder system in the near future. They will also welcome anyone interested in adding support for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2. To download the client, visit the related thread on the C&C Communications Center by clicking here.
  22. It's always interesting to listen to cover versions of Frank Klepacki's awesome music from the original the Command & Conquer. I'm sure when Frank gets the time to listen to them, he gets a kick of it. Here's a great-sounding heavy rock guitar cover of Frank Klepacki's "Act on Instinct" by Mihail Sobin from Russia. This cover version is called "Act of Instinct". Let us know if you ever spot any other cover versions of Command & Conquer music that should be shared with the community.
  23. No idea when this was added, but finally the history of the Command & Conquer franchise is now shown on the Official C&C Site, in the form a new timeline. A few months ago when the current Official C&C Site was launched, all traces of the franchise's origins disappeared, so it's good to see something back. All of the past games and expansion packs are shown (minus Sole Survivor), dating all the way back to 1995. Click here to see it for yourself.
  24. Similar in purpose to the newly released C&C Maps Renderer 2.0, Iran's Map Preview Generators for Command & Conquer and Red Alert have been released to help render full map previews using the games' graphics engines, which is useful for showing off your new maps. There is also a separate tool for creating map thumbnails for Red Alert. For more info and download links, look below: C&C Full Map Preview Generator RA1 Full Map Preview Generator RA1 Map Preview Generator (creates thumbnails, do not confuse it with the one above) Keep in mind that these tools are still in beta phase, even though no issues have been reported by the time this news post was written. You will also require Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 in order to run these tools.
  25. All of this gamescom/CommandCOM footage has completely taken our spotlight recently, and we have forgotten to commemorate August 31st as the 18th anniversary of the first Command & Conquer game's release date, making the series that brought RTS to the big scene "an adult" now, so to speak. What was your favourite moment in the first game? Do you have any memorable multiplayer matches or singleplayer tricks? Take a moment to remember it in this thread.
