  1. This week's Throwback Thursday features another iconic unit, the Tesla Trooper from Red Alert 2 in 2000. And advanced Soviet unit armed with a Portable Tesla coil mounted on one arm. The Tesla Trooper strikes fear in the enemy infantry because they can't survive the highly charge electric blasts fired at them. Tesla Troopers are best used as a static defence or an escort for armoured vehicles, as they are most effective against infantry, yet they are also particularly devastating against enemy tanks, which cannot crush them. And don't forget, they can also charge up Tesla Coils to increase their power and range. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  2. For Music Monday this week, Grinder from the Red Alert 2 soundtrack has been selected. Grinder is heavy and hard hitting track, like many of the tracks for Red Alert 2. The constant hammering bass beat never lets up. Some interesting voice samples are mixed in during the intro. The beat to Grinder has been stuck in my memory for many years now. So it was refreshing when Frank Klepacki gave us an updated version, , for Red Alert 3. A new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  3. Some new gameplay footage of the Red Alert 2 mod for OpenRA has been posted. It is still a work in progress, the video is from a development version. There are still many missing and unimplemented features but what is demonstrated looks very impressive. Check it out in the video above.
  4. We are going back to multiple years for this week's Throwback Thursday. Many of the Command & Conquer games began life with a different logo to what see on the box covers for them today. During the alpha/beta stages of development of the original Command & Conquer in 1994, the game featured a slightly different logo. We don't know what made Westwood change it though. Fast forward to 1999/2000, Red Alert 2 was announced featuring an odd looking logo, it was soon changed one that matched the first Red Alert logo. In 2001, Yuri's Revenge was announced with a simplistic looking design, this was also changed later to fit with the Red Alert 2 style. In 2006 when Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Was was revealed, EA used a very different looking C&C logo, with a modernised twist and a big green stylised number 3 behind it. The logo was redesigned some months later and looked much better. In 2008, Red Alert 3 was announced sporting a very eye catching logo, complete with backwards lettering to go with the game's Russian artwork theme. The logo was changed to a more simple looking one though. But I think it would have been cool to keep the first one. Of all these unused logos for C&C games, which one looks the best to you? Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

And thanks to SNiPE, a video guide has been created for those who want to get started and learn how to play their favourite Command & Conquer games on CnCNet. Watch the video above.
  6. Renegade X: Red Alert 2, a new mod for Renegade X has been announced. This is the first total conversion mod we have seen for Renegade X so far. This ambitious mod is hopes to bring the world of Red Alert 2 to the first person action found in Renegade X. Some of the planned features are listed below. Buildings and units from Red Alert 2 Two Factions: Soviets and Allied Detailed Buildings Vehicles modelled by original "RA2" Voxel Models Play the game as a shooter It's still early days for this project but it's good to see C&C modders embracing modern engines. You can learn more Renegade X: Red Alert 2 on their Mod DB page.

  9. Its time for Throwback Thursday once again. When you need something big, scary and loaded with plenty of fire power all need the Soviet's Kirov Airship, that first appeared in Red Alert 2 from 2000. Another iconic Command & Conquer unit. These slow moving flying fortresses really take a pounding to bring down and they pack a serious punch, carpet bombing their helpless enemies from the skies. It truly is death from above.
  10. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what the text says on the Prism Tower Blueprint? It's such low resolution, so I can't really read it. http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/cnc/images/1/1a/Prism_tower.png/revision/latest?cb=20110329182245
  11. Hi I'm converting PCX file to SHP file in XCC Mixer. But the image is distorted in the game. Can you tell us step by step? How do I put this image in a way into the game smoothly? I did everything smoothly. I just stayed in this section. This is my PNG file. This is in game view... Thank you in advance for your help...
  12. Just a quick reminder that Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge is still available for free as part of Origin's On the House promotion. All you need is an EA account, the Origin client installed on your computer, and it's yours to download for free. From what I understand it will still be available until sometime around early December. So it looks you will have plenty of time to claim your free copy of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge now. And then when you're ready, you can also jump online and play multiplayer thanks to the great team at CnCNet.
  13. So it looks like the limited time free release of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge on Origin's On the House promotion caught on so fast and became so popular it brought EA's Origin servers to total stand still. Almost to the point of melting down, ok maybe not that far. If you follow that link above you are given this message. Perhaps EA underestimated the popularity of Command & Conquer games once again. And maybe this will send them a message that fans still care about the franchise. In the mean time, Theme Hospital is available for free On the House. And just as it says in the quoted text, Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge will be back soon.
  14. Late last month one of the best fan made videos for the iconic Hell March song from Red Alert 2 was posted. Made by The Joe and Aza Show, this video features this talent duo who have recorded and filmed a professional music video covering Hell March, with their own spin on it of course. This is a must watch video!

Remember, you need is an EA account, the Origin client installed on your computer, and it's yours to download for free and keep in in your Origin collection forever. So if you missed out the first time, here's your second chance to claim your free copy of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.
  16. Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge is the latest offer in Origin's On the House promotion. All you need is an EA account, the Origin client installed on your computer, and it's yours to download for free. 18. As much as I enjoyed playing the campaigns in all the C&C games, well almost all of them, I always took my time tackling each objective to accomplish the mission. I guess this series of video shows the direct approach works just as effectively. Watch as the CnCNet team shows you how to . That's the first mission above, all done in 2 minutes and 59 seconds. to watch the rest.
  19. Its a little bit different for Throwback Thursday this week. Jumping back to 3 different time periods, its a Triple Tanya Throwback. We have had Special Agent Tanya appear in 3 Red Alert games, plus expansions, but the character has been portrayed by 3 different actresses. Kari Wuhrer as Tanya in Red Alert 2 from 2000 has always appeared to be the most popular. When Red Alert 3 was announced, there was a push from the community and fans for EA to get Kari Wuher back again. But EA had already long since cast Jenny McCarthy to take over the part. I think it still worked just fine. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  20. The resources are the most important part of any RTS game, and Command & Conquer games are no different with Tiberium in the Tiberium universe, Ore and Gems in the Red Alert universe. Here's a funny video that opens the debate, which classic RTS game has the best resource. The video features Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, Dune 2000, StarCraft, Warcraft 2 and more.... So what is the best resource ever in RTS games?
  21. Development and testing for the OpenRA version of Red Alert 2 continues with this new video that was posted recently. This video demonstrates the ability for this development version of OpenRA to read sound effects from the original game data. The current stable version of OpenRA does not support Red Alert 2. If you are really interested or want to contribute, check out the mod on Github.
  22. Early Red Alert 2 development and testing has been started by the OpenRA team. You can see some of the progress made in this gallery of screenshots showing the first experiments with Red Alert 2 sprites. Just two screenshots below. Click here to see the full gallery.
  23. Just over a week ago version 0.9 of the Ares DLL was released. This special DLL file is aimed at the modding community, it adds new features to Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Ares 0.9 adds several super weapon improvements like multiple super weapons on a building, super weapons depending on owner's country, AuxBuilding and negative buildings, more customizable super weapon targeting modes, Inhibitors, and finally AI support for all these additions. 24. A Polish C&C fan, Mariusz Kuszaj, has recently uploaded an amusing video advertising one of Mother Russia's greatest weapons... the Tesla Trooper. Here he shows you how they can solve all the problems in your base and where to order some. Kuszaj is also a graphics artist, comic author, illustrator and animator. You can see his portfolio here.
  25. PC Gamer have have published a new article that takes a look the best in-game piracy punishments. These are things the game developers deliberately build into their games to combat piracy. Some are more nasty than others. Red Alert 2's total base destruction bug has been included in this article, complete with a "troll" rating. Click here to see the full article.
