  1. EA producer Jim Vessella, true to his monthly schedule of remaster updates, has today posted about the in-game soundtracks and the jukebox feature, including some comments from veteran composer Frank Klepacki, and a sample of some of the remastered tracks - Act on Instinct, Demolition, and Fogger. Fellow Command & Conquer fans, I wanted to start this post by saying I’ve seen all the comments with the desire to see in-game footage, and thought it would be helpful to provide some context on the timing here. Essentially, we want to make sure we have all the supporting assets in place (like an updated C&C website) before revealing the in-game content. This will allow us to utilize some more flexible media components for the reveal, and ultimately help our awareness so we can get more gamers excited about C&C and the Remaster (which is beneficial for all of us). And while I cannot provide an exact date, getting all this in place is one of my top priorities and I’m crossing my fingers it can happen soon. But overall, our gameplay implementation is right on schedule, with Petroglyph currently focusing on getting the Nod campaign all stitched together. In the meantime, we wanted to share some special content with you for this post. If you remember, earlier this year we asked the community to provide input on our approach for the soundtrack, including what versions of the tracks you wanted to see in the Remaster. All of us on the team listened intently, and we heard a general consensus for having the most variety possible. So with that request in hand, we pushed hard to include all the versions of the tracks. This means the classic low fidelity versions (without voices), the original soundtrack versions now remastered (with voices), and then of course the Remastered versions of all classic tracks. This will also include many of the rare / unreleased tracks, several of which have never been heard before in higher fidelity. But getting there wasn’t always easy, and here’s an overview from Frank describing the remastering experience: “The process of going through every single piece of music and bringing it to a higher quality standard has been quite a journey back in time for me, and I’m really glad that all of these tracks will finally be heard in full high quality for the remastered game experience. After combing all possible archives, a handful of tracks were just nowhere to be found – this included ‘Snake’ and ‘Fogger’ from C&C Red Alert. One thing that I did back in the Westwood era, was mirror my home studio with the same gear I had at work, and fortunately I had kept much of it all these years. So I started there, and I went to painstaking detail and trial and error to track down and match as much of the exact original sounds and instrumentation I could find, to recreate these songs from scratch in order to have the best high quality versions once again for the remaster. Hearing these new versions, especially in stereo now, is a whole new experience.” To add it all up, between the classic and remastered versions of the tracks, we’re clocking in at over 10 hours worth of music across 175 tracks! Now, with that much music and variety, we figured players would need a way to organize all the music content. So we are excited to share that the Jukebox will be making a full comeback in the Remaster, and be more enhanced than ever before. The Jukebox will allow players to create their own playlist utilizing any combination of music to their desire. Easy to use filters help the sorting process, and for the first time you can listen to Red Alert music in Tiberian Dawn or vice versa. This feature was a labor of love for Frank and some of the original Westwood engineers on the project, who wanted to deliver the best music experience possible for the community. Overall we just can’t wait to put the Jukebox in your hands, and see all the unique playlists the community puts together. As a special treat to celebrate this post about the soundtrack, Frank has put together a compilation of several Remastered tracks for your enjoyment. You’ll be hearing a sample of the Remastered versions of Act on Instinct (without voices), Demolition (which was never included on the OST), and Fogger (which Frank described above as being recreated from scratch in high fidelity). To help provide a comparison, each track also includes a short intro of the classic low fidelity version as heard in the original game. And finally, you may notice there’s an unchecked box called “Bonus” in the Jukebox. Well, we haven’t forgotten about the voting you did earlier this year on your favorite tracks, and as such we’ll have a special surprise to reveal at a later date : ) As always thanks for your ongoing patience and support, and we’re looking forward to hearing your feedback on the soundtrack details, Jukebox, and the music itself. Cheers, Jim Vessella Jimtern You can read the original announcement and listen to the tracks on the C&C subreddit.
  2. Another month, another update from Jim Vessella regarding the Command & Conquer remasters, this time focusing on the campaign screens in Tiberian Dawn, and how they will now be available for selection individually like in some of the later titles. Here's the full update from the C&C subreddit:
  3. About an hour ago, EA producer Jim Vessella posted a new update on the C&C and Red Alert remasters, along with the above shown render of the Aftermath Tesla Tank. Here is what he had to say: The original post is here. Relatedly, the old official Command & Conquer Facebook page has been resurrected the other day and will now also post about remaster updates.
  4. True to his apparently monthly reports on the Command & Conquer remasters, EA producer Jim Vessella posted on Reddit just now: The poll is in a separate Reddit thread that you can upvote individual tracks on, but not reply. Get voting for your favourite tracks, Frank is sure to do something super-awesome with them, whatever that something may be.
  5. Mere minutes ago, EA producer Jim Vessella posted an update regarding the status of the original C&C source codes and what engine they will be using for C&C Remastered and Red Alert Remastered. This debunks a long-standing belief in the community that the source codes of Westwood-era titles have been lost, which is definitely good news!
  6. About half an hour ago, Jim Vessella posted an update on the progress with Command & Conquer: Remastered and Red Alert: Remastered on the C&C subreddit, which we bring you in its entirety:
  7. This video alone will tell the story. C&C 1 and Red Alert 1 are the first to get remasters, Frank Klepacki is back, and Petroglyph Games is involved. More info here.
  8. The Chronoshift is now officially open source! NOTE: Chronoshift is the new title for the RedAlert++ project. It has taken almost 10 long years of blood, sweat and tears to get us to this point, but it does not mean we are done just yet! A cleaner version of the codebase which we have been working on for the past couple of years has been pushed to the GitHub repo and we will be continuing to clean up and rewrite our currently private hosted code, and then continue all development of the project publicly on GitHub. As it stands at the moment, Chronoshift requires the original Red Alert 3.03 installation as it hooks our code into the binary and allows us to test with 1:1 accuracy. But as we develop the codebase we will be also writing the code in preparation for when we can build a fully stand-alone binary. You might be asking, "Why develop another Red Alert engine from scratch, if we already have FreeRA, FreeCNC, OpenRedAlert and OpenRA?" FreeRA, FreeCNC and OpenRedAlert are far from complete and appear to be abandoned, while OpenRA is focusing on reimagining the classic Westwood RTS titles with modern era twists such as features found later Command and Conquer titles or other RTS games. Our focus is on a classic recreation with great attention to detail on the core mechanics, more akin to OpenDUNE, hence the Chronoshift project. At this time, Chronoshift has to be built with a specific compiler due to the way it hooks into the original binary, but we are in the process of also setting up an automated build system that will allow you to download the required files without going through the build process, allowing a greater number of people to help us with testing. The Chronoshift project is hosted on GitHub under our group, (which also hosts the Thyme project: https://github.com/TheAssemblyArmada/Thyme) The Assembly Armada, which you can visit here https://github.com/TheAssemblyArmada You can visit Chronoshift on GitHub: https://github.com/TheAssemblyArmada/Chronoshift In the meantime... 9. " Maybe it is just a little bit difficult for me to translate it into English, but according to the passage, this is a true Red Alert game authorized by EA, made by Tencent. I still remember there used to be a rumor indicated that there is a new C&C mobile game in development, even Louis Castle has heard about it, maybe this is it lol
  10. This week's pick for Music Monday is another atmospheric track from Red Alert: The Aftermath - Bog. It's another one of those tracks that you can get lost in and completely forget it's part of a war-themed game. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don’t forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday. Also be sure to follow our new C&C Radio feature on the main site for more C&C music!
  11. This week in our Throwback Thursday feature, we look at the evolution of the first Tesla Tank in the Red Alert universe. It first appeared in the Counterstrike mission "Legacy of Tesla" with the appearance of a Mobile Radar Jammer, as a campaign-only unit. In development builds of The Aftermath, it sported a similar chassis, but with a Tesla coil and a van de Graaff generator mounted on top of it. In its final appearance in the released version of The Aftermath, where it is available in skirmish and multiplayer as well, the Tesla coil is condensed and its profile is lower. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

  13. Over a month ago, the team at GVMERS, who had previously covered the fate of the cancelled FPS Tiberium, created a video on the entire C&C franchise. What you are looking at above is the corrected, definitive version - certain facts about things that happened behind the scenes in Westwood Studios, EA Pacific, EA Los Angeles and Victory Games have been proofread, and each game is now presented in higher detail, in order to better describe what made Command & Conquer what it is, in both its good and bad times. The video is now 10 minutes longer in total, so be sure to check it out!
  14. Back in February, GVMERS posted a video that looked at what happened to the cancelled Tiberium FPS. Today, they have new Command & Conquer video that dives into the entire franchise. The Command & Conquer franchise helped shape the identity of RTS games during the 1990's and would influence the designs of countless similar strategy titles in later years. Even though the franchise ended with a whimper instead of a bang, it managed to create an indelible impact on the history of videogames. Join the team from GVMERS as they take a look at the rise and fall of Command & Conquer.
  15. Its a bit later than usual, but here's this week's pick for C&C Music Monday. Its back to the Red Alert soundtrack with "Journey". A slow and atmospheric track that wasn't originally part of game in the early days. Another great track from Frank Klepacki. Don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.

X-posted from: https://forums.cncnet.org/index.php?topic=7453.0 The RAGL has grown significantly since, with full divisions and over $800 worth of prize money for Season 2 alone. This season represents OpenRA's most dedicated players, scaled in skill level across 4 divisions with the upper two divisions looking scary good after a few seasons of promotions and relegations. The RA Global League runs two event each year, one in spring and one in the fall. Beyond Season 3 (this spring) the competitive event is looking to promote itself thoroughly now that the format is stabilizing and has proven it will run smooth regardless of the number of participants and overall scope of the league setup. To get a glimpse of what some of these high competitive matches look like, look no further than the RA Global League's two-times Champion FiveAces' own YouTube shoutcast channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/CovertFlobert We're looking to raise awareness of this competition and will welcome any discussion, feedback and criticism from the CNCNZ community which above all else value the core of what represents Command & Conquer.
  17. What a great way to start the new year. The team over at CnCNet have announced that they have achieved a new record for players online. 801 players we recorded online on the second day of 2017. Lots of people still playing the classics like Red Alert and Yuri's Revenge, which I think also achieved new individual records of their own. And who says Command & Conquer is dead?
  18. Nyerguds, one of the community's most famed members and coders, has created the Westwood Font Editor, a tool which allows the editing of the official font files of various formats found in earlier Westwood games (Eye of the Beholder series, The Legend of Kyrandia series, Lands of Lore series, Dune II and 2000, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Sole Survivor and Tiberian Sun, to name a few). This will allow easier development of fan-made localizations and modifications. You can download the latest version by following this link, the source code (written in C#, built on .NET Framework v3.5) is available as well. See this development thread for more information and full list of supported formats.
  19. It's C&C Music Monday time once again, and we are finishing the Red Alert 20th Anniversary month with another classic track from its soundtrack. This week, we feature "Smash". This one is another fast-paced techno-sounding track from Frank Klepacki. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  20. As our celebratory month of November, in which we heavily featured the 20th anniversary of Red Alert, draws to a close, this week's Throwback Thursday features the legendary handshake scene from the intro of the original Red Alert. In 1946, Albert Einstein developed a time machine in order to travel back to 1924, just as Adolf Hitler was released from prison after a failed coup, and shook his hand in order to erase him from that point of time on. World War II was averted, but another problem arose - the uncontested rise of the Soviet army and their invasion of Europe. While the premise seems rather cheesy now that we're older and have higher standards, this story brought us an entire universe of enjoyable games, which we happily remember to this day.
  21. There's been a lot of news in the Command & Conquer community to cover, so here's a quick overview of what's going on: CnCNet has reached a new milestone, with over 720 players connected at the same time Techraptor has posted an article giving a nice retrospective view on the Red Alert games The Tiberian Dawn Redux mod for Zero Hour has received patch 1.43, with eight new missions and some edited ones, as well as balancing and bugfixes Twisted Insurrection received two hotfix patches following its latest major release, 0.61 and 0.62 W3D Hub published a new update on Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising, showing off the Ore Purifier, the Tank Destroyer and Tanya's Sig Sauer pistol. Check out more news in our C&C Community News forum. If you have any community news of your own you want to share, feel free to send us a news tip.
  22. For C&C Music Monday this week, we finally feature one of the most popular video game songs ever, it's "Hell March". An iconic song, when you hear this you instantly know it's Red Alert. A classic masterpiece by the one and only Frank Klepacki. And we think its only fitting that "Hell March" be featured for the 20th anniversary of Red Alert. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  23. For Throwback Thursday this week, we feature the two generals from Red Alert: Retaliation for the original PlayStation - Ben Carville, played by Barry Corbin, and Topolov, played by Alan Charof. Both generals were the only characters encountered in Retaliation FMVs. They appeared in cutscenes for select missions and were not present in their DOS/Windows counterparts in Counterstrike and Aftermath. Of the two, only Barry Corbin was re-cast to reprise his role in Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.
  24. After skipping last week, C&C Music Monday returns this week. And we are continuing by featuring tracks from the soundtrack to Red Alert. Today’s pick is "Twin Cannon", it almost sounds like two songs in one, probably because it is. The end of this one sounds nothing like its techno beginnings. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  25. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we look back at a very rare feature in video games, but a much favoured one among C&C fans. In C&C games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, as well as in Dune 2000, Westwood would put track lists in the sound control menus. Basically, we got C&C's own little media players, where you could listen to Frank Klepacki's then-to-be classics in any order and any time you wanted! This is also how many of us memorized all those track names before having YouTube and personal composers' websites to check them.
