Throwback Thursday Throwback Thursday for 1st December
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
For Throwback Thursday this week, we remember the tunnel logic introduced in Tiberian Sun from 1999. Units could traverse a tunnel between two ends as if it were a normal path, only protected from above. The logic was quite well-integrated, as the units could do everything they could outside of the tunnel, including attacking enemies in range. They would also make use of tunnels when being ordered to move to a place they could only access by going through it, instead of being given special orders for it, which shows how well they were "fused" into the game's code. They also appeared fully coded and with art in Red Alert 2, but were not used in any map for some reason. Still, they can be added in the FinalAlert map editor. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. Throwback Thursday Throwback Thursday for 3rd November
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we look back at a very rare feature in video games, but a much favoured one among C&C fans. In C&C games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, as well as in Dune 2000, Westwood would put track lists in the sound control menus. Basically, we got C&C's own little media players, where you could listen to Frank Klepacki's then-to-be classics in any order and any time you wanted! This is also how many of us memorized all those track names before having YouTube and personal composers' websites to check them. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.-

The Mental Omega APYR mod for Yuri's Revenge has received yet another unit showcase video. This one is more focused on aircraft and stolen tech units, one of the latter being the return of the rejected Westwood design and a once popular addition to Yuri's Revenge mods - the Allied Chrono Prison. As an icing on the cake, the last unit is an insanely powerful Haihead (Foehn subfaction) vehicle visibly inspired by the M.A.D. Tank from Red Alert: The Aftermath.

It's back to the Yuri's Revenge soundtrack for this week's selection for C&C Music Monday. "Deceiver" is part techno, part rock, it's a real mix of many styles in this one from Frank Klepacki. Throwback Thursday this week is going back to look at something that was very unique to Yuri's army in Yuri's Revenge, the expansion for Red Alert 2 that released in 2001. And its the Floating Disc. Yuri had a flair for the dramatic, and also a clear appreciation for nostalgia and old movies. When Yuri decided to develop an economy attacking unit, he decided to base it's design off of the flying saucers from old Sci-Fi movies. The end result was the Floating Disc. Equipped with hover technology that allows it to move about the battlefield. The Floating Disc has a laser actuator located that fired from around the outer edge of the disc. It could also drain power or credits from enemy bases using the Drain Beam located in the centre sphere. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Throwback Thursday this week looks back to the time when Yuri decided he needed to go to the Moon in Yuri's Revenge from 2001. Yuri had already constructed his lunar base located in the Sea of Tranquillity on the Moon. his plan was to relocate here after he initiated his global network of Psychic Dominators. As luck would have it, you as the Soviet Commander, just happen to have full training as a Cosmonaut, and Premier Romanov orders you to follow Yuri to the Moon and lead a Soviet lunar task force to destroy Yuri's secret base there. The Project Phantom mod for Yuri's Revenge is about to make a long awaited return after a very long hiatus. Set in an alternate version of the universe seen in Red Alert & Red Alert 2, where history started to take a different path after World War II (RA1), resulting in existence of a high tech research & peace-enforcing black ops division of Allied military called Phantom Unit and birth of a new superpower from the ashes of collapsed Soviet Union at the conclusion of World War III (RA2) - the Eurasian Dominion, which would soon become most formidable opponent the Allied nations have ever faced. Decades later, after years of cold and hot war, nuclear nightmare and countless of deaths, the eternal battle between the mortal enemies still continues, while the pace of war is going to be turned upside down by an unexpected event. We don't have any details about the return but would be a good idea follow this mod on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.

Throwback Thursday Throwback Thursday for 21st January
Sonic posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
We are going back to multiple years for this week's Throwback Thursday. Many of the Command & Conquer games began life with a different logo to what see on the box covers for them today. During the alpha/beta stages of development of the original Command & Conquer in 1994, the game featured a slightly different logo. We don't know what made Westwood change it though. Fast forward to 1999/2000, Red Alert 2 was announced featuring an odd looking logo, it was soon changed one that matched the first Red Alert logo. In 2001, Yuri's Revenge was announced with a simplistic looking design, this was also changed later to fit with the Red Alert 2 style. In 2006 when Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Was was revealed, EA used a very different looking C&C logo, with a modernised twist and a big green stylised number 3 behind it. The logo was redesigned some months later and looked much better. In 2008, Red Alert 3 was announced sporting a very eye catching logo, complete with backwards lettering to go with the game's Russian artwork theme. The logo was changed to a more simple looking one though. But I think it would have been cool to keep the first one. Of all these unused logos for C&C games, which one looks the best to you? Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments.
