  1. The modding community for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 is alive and kicking, and now another tool for all the map creators has been released by Starkku. MapTool is a small open-source tool designed to apply changes to tile, overlay and object data of map files of Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 based on predefined conversion profiles. It is capable of performing operations such as converting maps from one terrain theater or another. You can learn more about this new tool by checking out this topic.
  2. Long time visitors know that Mondays around here are C&C Music Mondays. And this week our pick comes from the Red Alert 2 soundtrack. It's "Power". Part techno, part rock. And one of my favourites. It's clear that Frank Klepacki did some amazing work on the Red Alert 2 soundtrack. As always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  3. Here we go with this week's pick for C&C Music Monday. And it's back to the Red Alert 2 soundtrack for this one with "Motorized". Part techno, part rock, mixed in with a deep base sound. Another classic Red Alert 2 track from Frank Klepacki. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  4. It's Monday, so that means it's time for this week's C&C Music Monday post. This week, it's "C&C In The House" from the Red Alert 2 soundtrack. A fast techno track from Frank Klepacki. It also features an awesome heavy rock riff from the 1:05 mark. Remember, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  5. While a bit late, the new Throwback Thursday has finally arrived! This week, we remember the Soviet Crazy Ivan, which first appeared in C&C: Red Alert 2 from 2000. These infantrymen were literally so drunk that they were keen on placing timed explosives on every unit or structure within their reach, even friendly ones. The resulting explosions were large, violent and even had a brief appearance of a skull. The only units they wouldn't like to blow up were transport vehicles. One Crazy Ivan assassinated General Carville prior to Operation: Mirage in the original Red Alert 2 time line. The unit was likely named after a Soviet submarine manoeuvre from the Cold War, which included a hard turn in order to clear the submarine's baffles (blind area in the rear) and quickly engage potential followers. Interestingly, the original concept art showed a Crazy Ivan wielding knives instead of explosives. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  6. Christmas is just around the corner, so in this week's Throwback Thursday, we look back at a special 2-player map: Happy Trails. It was originally released as a downloadable map in the Red Alert 2 map pack #2, and was included in the main maps .mix file of the Yuri's Revenge expansion pack. In the center of the map, scattered ore and gem fields formed a Christmas tree, on which several bonus crates are found and serve as ornaments. The mentioned map pack was released on 22nd December 2000, just in time for the holiday.
  7. For Throwback Thursday this week, we remember the tunnel logic introduced in Tiberian Sun from 1999. Units could traverse a tunnel between two ends as if it were a normal path, only protected from above. The logic was quite well-integrated, as the units could do everything they could outside of the tunnel, including attacking enemies in range. They would also make use of tunnels when being ordered to move to a place they could only access by going through it, instead of being given special orders for it, which shows how well they were "fused" into the game's code. They also appeared fully coded and with art in Red Alert 2, but were not used in any map for some reason. Still, they can be added in the FinalAlert map editor.
  8. In early November, we got to see a proof-of-concept build of Red Alert 2 in Unreal Engine 4 and in VR, which was cool. Today we can share with you another way. How about playing Red Alert 2 on your Android phone? ZeUbermensch posted this on our forums earlier today. He has managed to get the game running his Nexus 5 using ExaGear. He has shared some video of it in action, which you can watch above. There is a rather lengthy process to getting it working, but it's all there. Check out this post here on forums for more. Further information can be found in this post on Imgur.
  9. Ádám Horváth, an Unreal Engine programmer who has previously used motion technology for some interesting projects, has taken a few steps further and made a proof-of-concept build of a remade Red Alert 2 in Unreal Engine 4 in VR! Of course, it's not a complete copy, as build times aren't there, and the gameplay is based on the unfinished RA2 mod for OpenRA, but the work he has done is nothing short of amazing. Many of the assets were contributed by Slye_Fox, author of the Condition Red mod for Red Alert 3.
  10. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we look back at a very rare feature in video games, but a much favoured one among C&C fans. In C&C games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, as well as in Dune 2000, Westwood would put track lists in the sound control menus. Basically, we got C&C's own little media players, where you could listen to Frank Klepacki's then-to-be classics in any order and any time you wanted! This is also how many of us memorized all those track names before having YouTube and personal composers' websites to check them.

  12. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we remember the appearance of the Eiffel Tower in Red Alert 2. In the alpha screenshot from April 2000, we can see it as we know it well, but with a hint at its usage in the campaign as a giant Tesla coil. However, the final version has three legs instead of four, the model was remade completely and the ingame string reads "Paris Tower" instead of Eiffel Tower. The Tesla coil usage was retained, though, and was used in Operation: City of Lights in the final version. It isn't certain why the Tower was changed, some speculate it was due to censorship. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. 13. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we take a look at a unit design which took three concept stages to reach a final game, and was even featured in a mod in the meanwhile. The Centurion Siege Walker was first imagined during the development of Red Alert 2 as a Soviet unit, but apart from two concepts in two camo versions, it never appeared in the game and was apparently not considered for Yuri's Revenge. In the Premier Edition DVD of Red Alert 3, a slightly redesigned version can be seen, but it was again omitted from the game itself, and in 2009, it finally managed to "crawl" to the fans as the Reaper unit in Red Alert 3: Uprising. It has also been prominently featured in the Mental Omega mod for many years, even in the 2.0 days!
  14. Just a bit late in posting this news. Spotted it via Frank Klepacki's Facebook page. Just a couple of weeks ago, PC Gamer did an interesting write up about Red Alert 2. Revisiting the game some 16 years later, PC Gamer feel that Red Alert 2 still holds up today, it's still fresh. Here's a sample of the article.... Arguably Red Alert 2 is the most popular of all the Command & Conquer games. And thanks to the likes of CnCNet, the online multiplayer action lives on. You can read the full article right here.
  15. For Music Monday this week we dip back into the Red Alert 2 soundtrack. It's "Burn". Another hard pumping heavy track from Frank Klepacki. The intro to this one is really good. A new track will be posted next Monday. Don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  16. A bit later than usual, its time for Throwback Thursday once again. This week looks back at General Carville and his not so warm welcome to Canada in Red Alert 2 from 2000. Many of your orders were given by General Carville through out the Allied campaign. As the story progressed, things were not going well for the Allies and General Carville ends up relocated to Canada. He didn't seem to pleased. Perhaps it was his Texan stubbornness shining through. Do Texans not like Canada? Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. 17. Welcome to Command & Conquer Red Alert 2! Red Alert 2 is probably one of the most beloved C&C games, and the last one developed by Westwood before Renegade (albeit with a different team).
  18. Throwback Thursday this week looks back to the cheesiest of cheesy lines delivered by President Michael Dugan in Red Alert 2 from 2000. Once President Dugan telephones Premier Romanov and demands that he calls off all Soviet attacks and states that he put Romanov into power, Premier Romanov interrupts and says "We Romanov’s have our legacy to consider", President Dugan responds with a line that could only fit in the crazy world of Red Alert 2, "I don't give a wooden nickel about your legacy!". So cheesy, so corny, so cringe worthy but so damn memorable.
  19. The Blaze have picked 14 Presidents from works of fiction who are probably more realistic choices than the 2016 candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, for this year's US elections. And of course there is a Command & Conquer twist to this news. As both President Howard T. Ackerman played by J.K. Simmons in Red Alert 3, and President Michael Dugan played by Ray Wise in Red Alert 2 have been chosen. Click here to check out the full list. Number 1 would be a great President.
  20. This week's pick for C&C Music Monday is "In Deep" from the Red Alert 2 soundtrack. If you have reinstalled Red Alert 2 many times over the years you would have heard this play while the game installs. "In Deep" includes an awesome heavy guitar riff thanks to Frank Klepacki. A new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  21. Throwback Thursday this week remembers McBurger Kong in Red Alert 2 from 2000. McBurger Kong is of course a parody of the real life fast food franchises McDonald's and Burger King. The "Kong" in its name is a reference to King Kong. Allied and Soviet infantry were known to often stop off at a McBurger Kong. And by that, it means infantry could be garrisoned inside these restaurants. Some interesting facts, if the McBurger Kong is damaged enough, the gorilla on the roof will suddenly change his pose. Destroying the McBurger Kong will cause it to explode similarly to the V3 Rocket Launcher's supply block of rockets.
  22. A new update about the Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising mod has been posted at W3D Hub. This April update covers a range of topics such as a preview of the new RA2 Frostbite Isle map, based on the C&C Under Renegade map. Some detailed looks a the Allied Mirage Tank and Soviet Tesla Tank (pictured above). Plus the team is looking for some artists to help with modelling and texturing civilian buildings and props, making nature assets and more. Click here for the full update.
  23. Version 0.B of the Ares DLL has been released. This is a special DLL file that is aimed at the modding community, it adds new features to Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Ares v0.B is a smaller release compared to the last one, and it focuses on prerequisites and ammo. They are summarised below. Generic Prerequisites now also accept vehicles as prerequisites Warheads can now optionally always or never damage air units Ammo changes allow for weapons that use custom amounts of ammunition (or no ammo at all), units reloading more than one round of ammunition, and aircraft with individual reload rate. Self Heal made customizable Spys can steal plans for one-time or permanent super weapons, and they can be deceived by deploying fake buildings Disallow players from getting the enter or no-enter cursor on transports or the area guard cursor on medics Visit the Ares official site, where you will find the download of this new version and more information.
  24. Here's a cool fan made tribute to Red Alert. Well its all Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 3 footage. But set to an awesome song called "The Last Line of Defence", written and produced by Vladimir Kuznetsov of World Beyond. Check it out in the video above.
  25. To end the month of February, a small update about the Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising was posted at W3D Hub. It features a video showing off the Harrier construction animations of the Airforce Command HQ. Check it out above. And some preview artwork of the always important standard and water-based crates has been posted as well. Click here for the full update.
