  1. For Throwback Thursday this week, we feature the two generals from Red Alert: Retaliation for the original PlayStation - Ben Carville, played by Barry Corbin, and Topolov, played by Alan Charof. Both generals were the only characters encountered in Retaliation FMVs. They appeared in cutscenes for select missions and were not present in their DOS/Windows counterparts in Counterstrike and Aftermath. Of the two, only Barry Corbin was re-cast to reprise his role in Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  2. After skipping last week, C&C Music Monday returns this week. And we are continuing by featuring tracks from the soundtrack to Red Alert. Today’s pick is "Twin Cannon", it almost sounds like two songs in one, probably because it is. The end of this one sounds nothing like its techno beginnings. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  3. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we look back at a very rare feature in video games, but a much favoured one among C&C fans. In C&C games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, as well as in Dune 2000, Westwood would put track lists in the sound control menus. Basically, we got C&C's own little media players, where you could listen to Frank Klepacki's then-to-be classics in any order and any time you wanted! This is also how many of us memorized all those track names before having YouTube and personal composers' websites to check them.
  4. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of C&C Red Alert, I dug this model out of my archives from many years ago from when I was new to 3D modeling. It is simply a converted and edited model from C&C Renegade for use in C&C Generals. Texture/Skin was also a quick photoshop edit to transform it into a Soviet version of the iconic tank. This was never released IIRC and was originally never intended to be as it was just a model to help me learn how to rig and retexture models for C&C Generals. The Gmax and other source files will also be included. DISCLAIMER: As mentioned above this model was originally designed/edited for C&C Generals but with a little bit of work it can be redone to work with C&C3 or RA3. Credits go to Westwood for the original Models/Textures Rigging and other edits to make it functional with modern C&C games go to sgtmyers88 File attachment was too large so I made a download link HERE
  5. As we approach the month of November this means that Red Alert is officially 20 years old. Red Alert was the prequel, the what if game, set before the events of the original Command & Conquer it tells the story of the conflict between the Allies and Soviets with its twisted science and alternate take on world history. And as the story ends we learn about the early origins of the eventual rise of the Brotherhood of Nod from the fallen Soviet Empire. So Red Alert and Command & Conquer are very much connected in more ways than you think. Of course all of this was later undone with creation of Red Alert 2 that essentially changes the time line and from that point neither connected. Here at CNCNZ.com we are celebrating the Red Alert 20th Anniversary by giving our main site and forums a bit of a Red Alert theme. These Red Alert themed images, created by Plokite_Wolf, will remain online through out November. If you don't see the new images you may need reload/refresh your web browsers cache. You can do this by hitting CTRL + F5 to fetch the updated images.
  6. C&C Music Monday this week continues this week with the theme of tracks from the now 20 years old Red Alert. Since it's the 20th anniversary for Red Alert let's remember the classic track, "Roll Out". A personal favourite of mine. Especially the part that begins at the 1.31 minute mark. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  7. Its a special double instalment of C&C Music Monday this week. As the 20th anniversary for Red Alert is fast approaching its only fitting to feature more tracks from it's soundtrack. And since I couldn't decide between either of these, both "Militant Force" and "Vector" are the selections for this week. "Militant Force" is a particular favourite of mine with it's hard thumping beat. While "Vector" slows things down a bit with a funky sound. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  8. A bit later than usual, it's C&C Music Monday time once again. By request we have gone back to the Red Alert soundtrack for this one. And it's "Crush". An all time Command & Conquer classic in any sense of the word. It's an up beat, fast pace techo rock track from Frank Klepacki. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  9. It is time once again for Music Monday. This week, we are slowing things down with "Groundwire" from the Red Alert: The Aftermath soundtrack. This one begins with a hauntingly atmospheric introduction that soon transitions to a more up beat finale. Another signature track from Frank Klepacki. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  10. PC Gamer have included the classic Red Alert in their list of The Top 100 PC games that you can play today. Red Alert ended up being listed in the number 40 spot and it's the only Command & Conquer game to make an appearance. Check out what PC Gamer had to say about the game. You can see the entire top 100 right here.
  11. I decide to share my speedrun of this classic game. This is my favorite game in the entire series, and had a lot of fun doing a Soviet Campaign Speedrun. To view, click the link below (it will contain the entire playlist of the speedrun. All runs are the current best times!

  13. Its been a slow week for C&C news, so lets enjoy some more classic C&C music with this week's Music Monday instalment. Featured today is "Run" from the Red Alert soundtrack. Its a tension filled track from Frank Klepacki. As always, a new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  14. This week's selection for C&C Music Monday is "Radio" from the Red Alert soundtrack. A very funky and catchy techno style track filled with a collection varied beats. Another signature track from Frank Klepacki. As always, a new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  15. For Throwback Thursday this week look back the the all important Chronosphere from Red Alert in 1996. It seems appropriate to feature it in our Throwback Thursday feature since it was used by Einstein to go back in time and change the course of history when he removed Hitler. The other ability for the Chronosphere was to transport units from location to another, this of course created many advanced strategies. However the Chronosphere was not a perfect technology, there was a danger to using what was considered an experimental device. Each time the Chronosphere was activated and used, there was chance of a Chrono Vortex being created. The Chrono Vortex was essentially a rift in the space-time continuum that rampages through the battlefield, destroying everything in its path. It appeared as a giant whirlpool of bending time, defying the laws of physics.
  16. This week's selection for C&C Music Monday is "Trenches" from the Red Alert soundtrack, composed by the one and only Frank Klepacki. When you think of Red Alert you probably immediately associate it with Hell March, when in fact the Red Alert soundtrack features many other memorable tracks. I have always liked the how "Trenches" begins with a 2 minute tension filled build up to an awesome sounding finale. A new track will be posted next Monday. Share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  17. We originally posted the announcement news of RedAlert++ back in September last year. RedAlert++ is an open source re-implementation of the Red Alert engine. Written from scratch in C++. It is a project to create an accurate re-implementation of the game engine used for the classic Westwood Studios RTS. Not be confused with OpenRA, a similar project. Progress has been slow, but the team have finally shown something new to the public. The terrain objects have been added to the game. You can see the full image right here. Learn more about RedAlert++ by visiting their official site.
  18. OpenRA have announced the new Red Alert Global League Tournament. The Global League is an attempt to combine the best elements of a tough scheduled format with a flexible meet up to circumvent most, if not all, time-zone related issues. The Red Alert Global League aims to become a long-term, easy and reliable format for anyone that wishes to participate. The proposed starting date is Monday, April 4th 2016 and the League will be running for two months twice a year. And of course, all games will be played using OpenRA. You can find all the important information and how to get involved right here.
  19. Here's a cool fan made tribute to Red Alert. Well its all Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 3 footage. But set to an awesome song called "The Last Line of Defence", written and produced by Vladimir Kuznetsov of World Beyond. Check it out in the video above.
  20. It's time to take on Command & Conquer Red Alert, the sequel to the original Command & Conquer and one of the most beloved (if not the most beloved) C&C game. The Allied campaign is already finished and can be found . The first Soviet mission is probably one of the easiest C&C missions ever. You really have to go out of your way to lose it.
  21. Just because its 2016, it doesn't mean you can give up playing any of the classic Command & Conquer games like the original Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun or even Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. With the power of CnCNet the classic Command & Conquer games live on for a new generation. And thanks to SNiPE, a video guide has been created for those who want to get started and learn how to play their favourite Command & Conquer games on CnCNet. Watch the video above.
  22. Late last month one of the best fan made videos for the iconic Hell March song from Red Alert 2 was posted. Made by The Joe and Aza Show, this video features this talent duo who have recorded and filmed a professional music video covering Hell March, with their own spin on it of course. This is a must watch video!
  23. A new project called RedAlert++ has been announced. RedAlert++ is an open source re-implementation of the Red Alert engine. Written from scratch in C++. It is a project to create an accurate reimplementation of the game engine used for the classic Westwood Studios RTS. It should be noted, this is a different project and not be confused with OpenRA. You can learn more about RedAlert++ by reading the announcement topic posted here. You can also visit the RedAlert++ site.

    Introducing RedAlert++

Introducing An open source re-implementation of the C&C Red Alert engine. Written from scratch in C++. www.openredalert.org www.twitter.com/OpenRedAlert RedAlert++ is a project to create an accurate reimplementation of the game engine used for the classic Westwood Studios RTS, Command & Conquer: Red Alert in C++. The team developing this are fans of the game who want to see it preserved and ensure it can be enjoyed properly on modern platforms. They do not have access to any of the original source code, and the project is being developed from scratch through careful examination and comparison to the original. This is to ensure that the new engine is as true to the original engine as possible, guarantee an authentically retro gaming experience. The project is not endorsed, sponsored or in any other way connected to EA/Electronic Arts and and has no intention to profit from the endeavour. In the coming months, we will be posting regular updates and working towards a public release in the near future. - Utilises the latest open source graphic and audio libraries (SDL, OpenGL and OpenAL). - - Fully compatable with the original game, allowing you to run the compiled binary as a direct replacement of your original installation. - - Fixes bugs that appear in the original game, without losing gameplay authenticity. - - Built on years of thorough research into core gameplay dynamics to deliver a genuine experience. - - Allows you to continue playing your favourite RTS on a device of your choice. - Q: Why develop another Red Alert engine from scratch, if we already have FreeRA, FreeCNC and OpenRA... A: FreeRA and FreeCNC are far from complete and appear to be abandoned while OpenRA is focusing on re-imagining the classic Westwood RTS titles with modern era twists such as features found later Command and Conquer titles or other RTS games. Our focus is on a classic recreation with great attention to detail on the core mechanics, more akin to OpenDUNE, hence the new project. Q: Why is it called OpenRedAlert, wasn't there already existing project called OpenRedAlert? A: Correct, but the project has been inactive for some years now. We approached the creator, Damien some time ago now and asked the status of the project, and if it was currently inactive, could we use the name OpenRedAlert. Damien's project is still being developed in private and he has given us permission to use the name and hopfully in the future we can bring him on board to help with development. Q: Where to download latest version of OpenRedAlert? A: At the moment, OpenRedAlert is being developed in private so we can ensure the basic engine works as required. Once we are happy with the state of the engine, we will release a public build and also create a public repository on GitHub. Q: What do I need to run OpenRedAlert? A: It's simple! - All you will need is a installation of the original C&C Red Alert (patched to 3.03), and a compiled binary from the OpenRedAlert source code, be that from a preview build or from the public repository yourself. EA released C&C Red Alert as Freeware in celebration of the release of Red Alert 3 and it is now possible to legally download a copy from the EA servers or official mirrors. 25. Thanks once again to @Kevin69Ghost on Twitter for creating and sharing his latest piece of Command & Conquer artwork. This time it's inspired by the original Red Alert. As we have mentioned in the past, we think its great seeing stuff like this so if you spot some Command & Conquer artwork or have some of your creation, please let us know and we will post it here on the site.
