  1. We have something special sent to us from an anonymous source. This is a confidential and top secret Tiberian Sun, second Tiberium War era dossier. It describes the operations of a double agent surrounding the events that took place during the second Tiberium War. Confidential Top Secret Tiberian Sun Dossier (5.87 MB | PDF) Where this document comes from is not important. How we have it, we will not say. How official is it? Well you decide. Read it, share it and give us your feedback about it.
  2. Tiberian Sun modding is still active in 2020 and looks to still continue on into 2021! Here are some updates on some of the more interesting TS mods in the community. Tiberian War: Warzone, the first release of the "Tiberian War Collection" mod for Tiberian Sun, will release this month. You may be familiar with this mod, as it used to be known as "Tiberian Sun WarZone", before mod author Trif_Mircea decided to switch around to a different naming convention. Here's a detailed update on what's new, as well as a small teaser of the following release, "Ion Shock" (Scrin!). --- The Nod arsenal in Twisted Insurrection has received a few visual upgrades over the past few months. Here's some samples: - Black Hand Ghost - Eclipse Heavy Tank - Eclipse V2 - Banshee Interceptor - Wraith Bomber There's also a new 2-player map, titled "Serpentine", based off of a Red Resurrection map. --- The Second Tiberium War v3.0 will add Naval Warfare and a buildable Navy to its roster, as well as updates to the lighting and an infantry rework. You can see some of the lighting enhancements here and here. There is also a video showcasing a GDI vs Nod match of a Work-In-Progress 3.0 build right over here. Feel free to visit their image gallery to see the updated infantry visuals, new GDI powerplant upgrade and lighting. --- That's all for now, Commanders!
  3. Hello CNCNZ! Long time no see! Some of you may be aware that I (Aro) announced my resignation as Twisted Insurrection leader a few months ago, I'd just like to inform you that I have changed my mind on the matter due-to several reasons and will be resuming work as normal! I apologize to our fans whom I may have disappointed, but I'm happy to announce that it was, afterall, only a temporary leave. After recent discussions with some staff members and some other people I consider to be my friends, I have managed to be persuaded to think otherwise about my resignation, so I owe a lot to the guys for helping me pick up my mood again. One other main deterrent of keeping up working on Twisted Insurrection was the fact that Windows 8 hindered my ability to resume work at the pace that I usually keep, but now thanks to a lot of fine-tuning and fiddling, everything is back in order again. Once Public Beta 5 is released and I have found an almost-perfect solution to the Windows 8 issue, I will include a tutorial of how to get TS/TI working correctly on the dreaded operating system. Now that I am back in the game and finally have internet set up at my new home, I am pleased to inform you that Twisted Insurrection will resume progress as normal! Not that Twisted Insurrection has been quiet for all those months, quite the contrary. We are only 2 Nod and 3 GDI Missions away from having a completed campaign, big props to Q45 for all his hard work. Once both campaigns are complete, some additional challenge missions will be created and then work on GloboTech's... missions... will begin. Now, I know what you're all thinking, which is probably something along the lines of "But Aro, when will the faction structures and units be finished?" and the answer to that is simply this, I don't know. ErastusMercy, the lead voxel artist for Twisted Insurrection has been on hiatus around the same time that I took my "leave" due-to several reasons, one of which being to embark on working on his mod, Emerald Prophecy, now for the Unreal engine, but hopefully he'll be back in the game soon. Lin Kuei Ominae, the Nod Building artist for Twisted Insurrection has been unable to use 3DSMAX for quite some time now, but that time is drawing to a close very soon (we hope), once he is able to begin work again, the Nod structures will start flying out again. Henskelion, our cinematics artist is also busy with studies, meaning that progress has been slowed too, but not for long. As for GDI, well it's just a matter of whether the artist in question has time, I'm going to discuss things with some of our SHP artists and see whether or not we can get things rolling at light speed again! So we have taken quite a blow in terms of staff activity, but things are going to pick up again as from today. Sadly, no, I can not give you a set date on Public Beta 5's release, but that's only because unforeseen consequences are bound to happen if I start making promises on release dates. Never-the-less, looking at the progress that has occurred and how much shorter our to-do-list has grown (with the exception of some faction graphics), we're nearing completion, and whilst it's not just around the corner, it's going to happen! Tiberian Sun modding will not die until we die. **** you, Windows 8! Check out Twisted Insurrection's pages around the web!

  5. 20 years ago, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun was released in North America, 7 days after its international debut in Germany. It was the first Command & Conquer game which used an isometric view with voxels portraying vehicles, aircraft and certain turrets. While technologically more advanced than prior titles in the series, its development issues were showing. Nevertheless, its campaign had arguably unrivalled worldbuilding within the Command & Conquer franchise, taking a darker and gloomier direction for its lore and its unforgettable soundtrack. Even its cutscenes got higher-profile actors than before (Michael Biehn and James Earl Jones). Even now, people still play and modify Tiberian Sun. It was released for free on 12 February 2010 with its Firestorm expansion, and thanks to our friends at CnCNet, it's accessible to install and play offline and online through their custom installers! Tell us your most memorable experiences in the game.
  6. This week, our Throwback Thursday segment features one of the first Hollywood stars that Westwood brought to their video game cutscenes. The role of GDI general Solomon was played by none other than the legendary James Earl Jones, best known for his voice work as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, Mufasa from Lion King, and the "This is CNN" ident. He's also an accomplished theatre actor, and the only actor in history who has won two Emmys in the same year (1991). After all of these accolades, his first entry to the gaming industry was Tiberian Sun. In fact, Tiberian Sun is the only game not tied to the Lion King or Star Wars licenses that he has performed in, and for someone who was apparently in it for the money, he put a good performance and did justice to the player character from Tiberian Dawn in his older days. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  7. New versions of Open Source HVA Builder (v2.14) and Open Source Voxel Viewer (v1.83) have been released over at Project Perfect Mod. They feature an updated version of the Voxel Engine, fixes for 360° rotation, the ability to cap the HVA Builder's rendering speed to 60 FPS (which is on by default), the ability to change between games and palettes, fix for the View Transform option, and restoration of HVA Builder options from v2.11 and v2.12 that were missing in v2.13. Click here for more information and download links.
  8. In today's Throwback Thursday, we remember one of the most well-known cancelled features in a Command & Conquer game - the Dropship loadout system that was to appear in Tiberian Sun. By this idea, the campaign missions were to feature a structure called the Dropship Bay (which still has its art and rules in the game files, but with missing art coding), which would have been a drop point for Orca Dropships that would have held the units the player chose before a mission as reinforcements. Contrary to popular belief, this feature was not cut due to time constraints, but, according to Tiberian Sun producer Rade Stojsavljević in a 2000 article for Gamasutra, simply because the team felt it was unnecessary. The Dropship Bay itself was recycled as the Upgrade Center. A modified version of the first GDI mission which has this feature enabled (without the Dropship Bay) can be found in the downloads section of the XCC home page.
  9. In this week's Music Monday, we feature one of the most melancholic tracks in the series - Dusk Hour from Tiberian Sun. This track was composed by both Frank Klepacki and his mentee at the time, Jarrid Mendelson, and clearly emphasises the sorry state the Earth was in by the time of the Second Tiberium War. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  10. This week in our Throwback Thursday feature, we take a peek behind the scenes of the FMV shooting for C&C Tiberian Sun from late July 1998. To be exact, the shooting of the infamous "son of a bitch" scene from the GDI intro. During the three-week recording period which was mostly taken in studio, Westwood's video team went to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area within the Mojave Desert, not far from Las Vegas. It was there that Kris Iyer and Michael Biehn enacted easily one of the cheesiest scenes in Command & Conquer history.
  11. Over a month ago, the team at GVMERS, who had previously covered the fate of the cancelled FPS Tiberium, created a video on the entire C&C franchise. What you are looking at above is the corrected, definitive version - certain facts about things that happened behind the scenes in Westwood Studios, EA Pacific, EA Los Angeles and Victory Games have been proofread, and each game is now presented in higher detail, in order to better describe what made Command & Conquer what it is, in both its good and bad times. The video is now 10 minutes longer in total, so be sure to check it out!
  12. Back in February, GVMERS posted a video that looked at what happened to the cancelled Tiberium FPS. Today, they have new Command & Conquer video that dives into the entire franchise. The Command & Conquer franchise helped shape the identity of RTS games during the 1990's and would influence the designs of countless similar strategy titles in later years. Even though the franchise ended with a whimper instead of a bang, it managed to create an indelible impact on the history of videogames. Join the team from GVMERS as they take a look at the rise and fall of Command & Conquer.
  13. C&C Music Monday is back again this week with another fan made remix of a classic Command & Conquer song. This week we feature a remix of "Valves" by Matt Majcan. The original is of course by Frank Klepacki. Also note, I did not have the time to give this video the full C&C Music Monday intro this week. Don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  14. Does anyone have any details about the save game format for Tiberian Sun? From a brief look it has an outer container that's loosely based on the FAT file-system, with file names such as: Root Entry, SummaryInformation, Scenario Description, Player House, Version, Internal Version, Start Time, Last Save Time, Play Time, Executable Name, Player Name, Player Name2, Scenario Number, Campaign, GameType, CONTENTS Some really wide Google searches around these various terms doesn't bring up anything of relevance. In all the years since it was released, has no-one made any progress with this? More than happy to carry on poking around to break out more details, but I don't want to be duplicating someone else's effort. Any insights appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  15. The modding community for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 is alive and kicking, and now another tool for all the map creators has been released by Starkku. MapTool is a small open-source tool designed to apply changes to tile, overlay and object data of map files of Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 based on predefined conversion profiles. It is capable of performing operations such as converting maps from one terrain theater or another. You can learn more about this new tool by checking out this topic.
  16. Below you have download links of the language files for Tiberian Sun patched to version 2.03 and its expansion pack Firestorm Update: Removed several unnecessary files from Tiberian Sun language packs Extras added Added Tiberian Sun docs I will no longer update this topic due to lack of interest (and language files). These files were initially intended to be used with original Tiberian Sun and Firestorm installations from Westwood discs, I don't recommend using them anymore and I don't guarantee they work properly with TFD (The First Decade) or TUC (The Ultimate Collection) installations of the game. 17. In this week's Throwback Thursday, we continue with the "Ladies of C&C" series. Oxanna Kristos from C&C Tiberian Sun, played by Monika Schnarre, brought the "Nod blonde" trope to the Tiberium universe, which was started by Nadia Zelenkov from the first Red Alert. During Nod's trying times, Oxanna infiltrated Hassan's propaganda machine, seen in her involvement in the morbid "Today's Execution" live television show. However, she remained loyal to the Black Hand and Kane himself, rescuing Anton Slavik from his death sentence and joining him on the Montauk. She was as ruthless as she was seductive, showing contempt for the Forgotten, causing Jake McNeil to defect to Nod, and even killing her former TV colleague on air.
  18. This week's pick for C&C Music Monday comes to us from the atmospheric Tiberian Sun soundtrack. Its "The Defense". A fast paced track that was composed and performed by Jarrid Mendelson. As always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  19. There's been a lot of news in the Command & Conquer community to cover, so here's a quick overview of what's going on: The first release of the Red Alert 3 version of the Generals 2 mod has been published. Nyerguds' 1.06c patch for Command & Conquer: Gold received a hotfix (labeled update 4) that resolves a compatibility problem with CnCNet. The updated version of Kane's Wrath 1.02+ map packs, R12b, has been made available. These maps have many issues fixed, and are played by mid- and high-level players. On Saturday, February 18th, the third annual Free-For-All tournament in Kane's Wrath took place, lasting a total of six hours. Recorded live commentary by IISpartacus (joined in finals by Masterleaf) is available . Yesterday, CnCSaga.com found 7 more pieces of concept art from the cancelled Red Alert Alliances, which show that the Empire of the Rising Sun was also to appear. The CnCNet spawner code for Tiberian Sun has been made open to the public on GitHub, with the languages being C and x86 Assembler. Check out more news in our C&C Community News forum. If you have any community news of your own you want to share, feel free to send us a news tip.
  20. Nyerguds, one of the community's most famed members and coders, has created the Westwood Font Editor, a tool which allows the editing of the official font files of various formats found in earlier Westwood games (Eye of the Beholder series, The Legend of Kyrandia series, Lands of Lore series, Dune II and 2000, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Sole Survivor and Tiberian Sun, to name a few). This will allow easier development of fan-made localizations and modifications. You can download the latest version by following this link, the source code (written in C#, built on .NET Framework v3.5) is available as well. See this development thread for more information and full list of supported formats.
  21. Frank Klepacki has contributed his second track for the Twisted Insurrection standalone mod for Tiberian Sun. This time, it's the Killing Fields Remix, with the composed by VEF4. The track will appear in the seventh iteration of the Twisted Insurrection soundtrack, which already sports a long track list. It's awesome to see the game music legend support fan projects.
  22. For Throwback Thursday this week, we remember the tunnel logic introduced in Tiberian Sun from 1999. Units could traverse a tunnel between two ends as if it were a normal path, only protected from above. The logic was quite well-integrated, as the units could do everything they could outside of the tunnel, including attacking enemies in range. They would also make use of tunnels when being ordered to move to a place they could only access by going through it, instead of being given special orders for it, which shows how well they were "fused" into the game's code. They also appeared fully coded and with art in Red Alert 2, but were not used in any map for some reason. Still, they can be added in the FinalAlert map editor.
  23. Version 0.6 of Twisted Insurrection for Tiberian Sun has been released. Twisted Insurrection is a standalone game based on a heavily modified Tiberian Sun engine. The game features a completely new in-depth storyline which puts you in an alternate time-line where the Brotherhood of Nod were victorious during the first Tiberian War rather than GDI. Do you have what it takes to drag the shattered Global Defense Initiative out of ruin? Or will you crush all who oppose the will of Kane and his Inner Circle? Simultaneously, volume 6 of the Twisted Insurrection original soundtrack has been made available for download as well. It features an exclusive remix by the one and only Frank Klepacki. You can download the latest release and the soundtrack right here.
  24. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we look back at a very rare feature in video games, but a much favoured one among C&C fans. In C&C games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, as well as in Dune 2000, Westwood would put track lists in the sound control menus. Basically, we got C&C's own little media players, where you could listen to Frank Klepacki's then-to-be classics in any order and any time you wanted! This is also how many of us memorized all those track names before having YouTube and personal composers' websites to check them.
