  1. New versions of Open Source HVA Builder (v2.14) and Open Source Voxel Viewer (v1.83) have been released over at Project Perfect Mod. They feature an updated version of the Voxel Engine, fixes for 360° rotation, the ability to cap the HVA Builder's rendering speed to 60 FPS (which is on by default), the ability to change between games and palettes, fix for the View Transform option, and restoration of HVA Builder options from v2.11 and v2.12 that were missing in v2.13. Click here for more information and download links.
  2. Have created a guide for anyone interested to re-install C&C-Tiberian Sun:
  3. In today's Throwback Thursday, we remember one of the most well-known cancelled features in a Command & Conquer game - the Dropship loadout system that was to appear in Tiberian Sun. By this idea, the campaign missions were to feature a structure called the Dropship Bay (which still has its art and rules in the game files, but with missing art coding), which would have been a drop point for Orca Dropships that would have held the units the player chose before a mission as reinforcements. Contrary to popular belief, this feature was not cut due to time constraints, but, according to Tiberian Sun producer Rade Stojsavljević in a 2000 article for Gamasutra, simply because the team felt it was unnecessary. The Dropship Bay itself was recycled as the Upgrade Center. A modified version of the first GDI mission which has this feature enabled (without the Dropship Bay) can be found in the downloads section of the XCC home page. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.
  4. In this week's Music Monday, we feature one of the most melancholic tracks in the series - Dusk Hour from Tiberian Sun. This track was composed by both Frank Klepacki and his mentee at the time, Jarrid Mendelson, and clearly emphasises the sorry state the Earth was in by the time of the Second Tiberium War. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  5. This week in our Throwback Thursday feature, we take a peek behind the scenes of the FMV shooting for C&C Tiberian Sun from late July 1998. To be exact, the shooting of the infamous "son of a bitch" scene from the GDI intro. During the three-week recording period which was mostly taken in studio, Westwood's video team went to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area within the Mojave Desert, not far from Las Vegas. It was there that Kris Iyer and Michael Biehn enacted easily one of the cheesiest scenes in Command & Conquer history. Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. 7. Over a month ago, the team at GVMERS, who had previously covered the fate of the cancelled FPS Tiberium, created a video on the entire C&C franchise. What you are looking at above is the corrected, definitive version - certain facts about things that happened behind the scenes in Westwood Studios, EA Pacific, EA Los Angeles and Victory Games have been proofread, and each game is now presented in higher detail, in order to better describe what made Command & Conquer what it is, in both its good and bad times. The video is now 10 minutes longer in total, so be sure to check it out!
  8. C&C Music Monday is back again this week with another fan made remix of a classic Command & Conquer song. This week we feature a remix of "Valves" by Matt Majcan. The original is of course by Frank Klepacki. Also note, I did not have the time to give this video the full C&C Music Monday intro this week. Don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  9. Back in February, GVMERS posted a video that looked at what happened to the cancelled Tiberium FPS. Today, they have new Command & Conquer video that dives into the entire franchise. The Command & Conquer franchise helped shape the identity of RTS games during the 1990's and would influence the designs of countless similar strategy titles in later years. Even though the franchise ended with a whimper instead of a bang, it managed to create an indelible impact on the history of videogames. Join the team from GVMERS as they take a look at the rise and fall of Command & Conquer.
  10. Does anyone have any details about the save game format for Tiberian Sun? From a brief look it has an outer container that's loosely based on the FAT file-system, with file names such as: Root Entry, SummaryInformation, Scenario Description, Player House, Version, Internal Version, Start Time, Last Save Time, Play Time, Executable Name, Player Name, Player Name2, Scenario Number, Campaign, GameType, CONTENTS Some really wide Google searches around these various terms doesn't bring up anything of relevance. In all the years since it was released, has no-one made any progress with this? More than happy to carry on poking around to break out more details, but I don't want to be duplicating someone else's effort. Any insights appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  11. The modding community for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 is alive and kicking, and now another tool for all the map creators has been released by Starkku. MapTool is a small open-source tool designed to apply changes to tile, overlay and object data of map files of Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 based on predefined conversion profiles. It is capable of performing operations such as converting maps from one terrain theater or another. You can learn more about this new tool by checking out this topic.
  12. In this week's Throwback Thursday, we continue with the "Ladies of C&C" series. Oxanna Kristos from C&C Tiberian Sun, played by Monika Schnarre, brought the "Nod blonde" trope to the Tiberium universe, which was started by Nadia Zelenkov from the first Red Alert. During Nod's trying times, Oxanna infiltrated Hassan's propaganda machine, seen in her involvement in the morbid "Today's Execution" live television show. However, she remained loyal to the Black Hand and Kane himself, rescuing Anton Slavik from his death sentence and joining him on the Montauk. She was as ruthless as she was seductive, showing contempt for the Forgotten, causing Jake McNeil to defect to Nod, and even killing her former TV colleague on air.
  13. This week's pick for C&C Music Monday comes to us from the atmospheric Tiberian Sun soundtrack. Its "The Defense". A fast paced track that was composed and performed by Jarrid Mendelson. As always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  14. There's been a lot of news in the Command & Conquer community to cover, so here's a quick overview of what's going on: The first release of the Red Alert 3 version of the Generals 2 mod has been published. Nyerguds' 1.06c patch for Command & Conquer: Gold received a hotfix (labeled update 4) that resolves a compatibility problem with CnCNet. The updated version of Kane's Wrath 1.02+ map packs, R12b, has been made available. These maps have many issues fixed, and are played by mid- and high-level players. On Saturday, February 18th, the third annual Free-For-All tournament in Kane's Wrath took place, lasting a total of six hours. Recorded live commentary by IISpartacus (joined in finals by Masterleaf) is available . Yesterday, CnCSaga.com found 7 more pieces of concept art from the cancelled Red Alert Alliances, which show that the Empire of the Rising Sun was also to appear. The CnCNet spawner code for Tiberian Sun has been made open to the public on GitHub, with the languages being C and x86 Assembler. Check out more news in our C&C Community News forum. If you have any community news of your own you want to share, feel free to send us a news tip.

  16. Frank Klepacki has contributed his second track for the Twisted Insurrection standalone mod for Tiberian Sun. This time, it's the Killing Fields Remix, with the composed by VEF4. The track will appear in the seventh iteration of the Twisted Insurrection soundtrack, which already sports a long track list. It's awesome to see the game music legend support fan projects.
  17. Nyerguds, one of the community's most famed members and coders, has created the Westwood Font Editor, a tool which allows the editing of the official font files of various formats found in earlier Westwood games (Eye of the Beholder series, The Legend of Kyrandia series, Lands of Lore series, Dune II and 2000, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Sole Survivor and Tiberian Sun, to name a few). This will allow easier development of fan-made localizations and modifications. You can download the latest version by following this link, the source code (written in C#, built on .NET Framework v3.5) is available as well. See this development thread for more information and full list of supported formats.
  18. For Throwback Thursday this week, we remember the tunnel logic introduced in Tiberian Sun from 1999. Units could traverse a tunnel between two ends as if it were a normal path, only protected from above. The logic was quite well-integrated, as the units could do everything they could outside of the tunnel, including attacking enemies in range. They would also make use of tunnels when being ordered to move to a place they could only access by going through it, instead of being given special orders for it, which shows how well they were "fused" into the game's code. They also appeared fully coded and with art in Red Alert 2, but were not used in any map for some reason. Still, they can be added in the FinalAlert map editor.
  19. Version 0.6 of Twisted Insurrection for Tiberian Sun has been released. Twisted Insurrection is a standalone game based on a heavily modified Tiberian Sun engine. The game features a completely new in-depth storyline which puts you in an alternate time-line where the Brotherhood of Nod were victorious during the first Tiberian War rather than GDI. Do you have what it takes to drag the shattered Global Defense Initiative out of ruin? Or will you crush all who oppose the will of Kane and his Inner Circle? Simultaneously, volume 6 of the Twisted Insurrection original soundtrack has been made available for download as well. It features an exclusive remix by the one and only Frank Klepacki. You can download the latest release and the soundtrack right here.
  20. In this week's edition of Throwback Thursday, we look back at a very rare feature in video games, but a much favoured one among C&C fans. In C&C games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, as well as in Dune 2000, Westwood would put track lists in the sound control menus. Basically, we got C&C's own little media players, where you could listen to Frank Klepacki's then-to-be classics in any order and any time you wanted! This is also how many of us memorized all those track names before having YouTube and personal composers' websites to check them.
  21. The Twisted Insurrection team has released a newscast for the month of October. They've been working hard on polishing the game up for the 0.6 release which is now officially due on 19 November 2016, possibly sooner if they finish everything on their to-do list. GloboTech has new aircraft voxels by ErastusMercy, Lin Kuei Ominae has finished several Nod buildings (click above for the full image), certain terrains have been redone, skirmish/multiplayer maps have been updated and joined by some new ones, and two new tracks have been published - Prodigal Son by OmegaBolt, and Eidolon by Mentalmeisters' own Speeder! Check out the October newscast here for more.
  22. The popular standalone mod for Tiberian Sun, Twisted Insurrection, has received a trailer for the upcoming v0.6 version, showcasing all of the mod's features and gameplay points. The new release is scheduled for November, and a lot of the development in the past few months was focused on the Twisted Dawn campaigns, new theaters including an interior one, and a new client shared in design with Dawn of the Tiberium Age. The fans will have quite a lot to play with this winter.
  23. Once again we have another edition of C&C Music Monday. This week we slow things down just a bit with the hauntingly sounding "Ion Storm" from the Tiberian Sun soundtrack. Who enjoyed the Ion storms in Tiberian Sun? The lack of lighting, no base power, no radar. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don't forget to share this on social media using the hash tags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.
  24. Over the past two days, the Dawn of the Tiberium Age (DTA for friends) standalone mod for Tiberian Sun has received several updates, including numerous bugfixes, one of which was the bug where the game would continue if all AI enemies were eliminated, as well as asset additions and brand new features in the updated game client. The newest version at the time of posting is v1.1555, though to be on the safe side, keep an eye out on their ModDB downloads page for any other potential updates.
  25. Here's cool new video from World Beyond. Its called Command & Conquer Tiberian Series Tribute: The Brotherhood. An original heavy rock track featuring lots of footage from Tiberian Sun, Tiberium Wars and Tiberian Twilight. Watch it in the video above.
