Unit "Turn Animation" and response

  1. 1. So far there is NO visual when you order units to turn, what do you think?

    • I want "Turn Animation", like in C&C 3, games looks smooth that way

I voted for "I don't know yet" because I have no idea what your trying to get at it with this poll. Please explain what you mean by "NO visual when you order units to turn".

 

The units looked fine the demo video, animation was good when they were moving/turning. Although naval units could be probably be improved to some degree. The appeared to simply turn on the spot.

 

But in the end how real does it have it be, this the Red Alert universe ;)

sorry man but reality has nothing to do with an rts game build in 2008! and there smoothnets.

 

when i say turn animation, its prety clear, if you select a Unit and order a move command and the unit has to turn to that direction, it turn imidiatly 90 degres or 360 in 1 milisecond , and in my opinion its look terrible!!!!! :o

 

ela said they think for now to have NO Turn animation, but this is crazy, ok i agree with best performance and response of the units, but looking a unit north and when you ordering them to move west the units turns all in sudden like a 2D DOS game, and not like a 3D game!!

 

i didnt say to be like Generals, that units slow down or accelerate if they are order to stop or move. beacause long animation turns meens that units will get fired during thaere turn and not be able to do anything,

 

but very sort animation like sc2 has done, its perfect! it just feels especially for Naval Units very ungly to turn a ship 180degree like its a toy car!!!!!

i belive there MUst be a Balance beetween Performance and Animation Buity, that why i voted for the faster animation. hope you understaned better now.

i wish i could have a video example to show you the huge difference between ra3 and sc2 turn animation thay use right now, and remeber sc its all about strategy and all the hardcore fans loved the animation speeds so far! :yum:

Of course people will want turn animations, simply seeing a unit magically change direction is what you expect from RA2.

I dislike turn animations, its just pointless realism. Units should turn and follow orders, and not waste time going round in circles to get from point a to b.

 

 

Remember, realism and gameplay never go hand in hand. Else gameplay sucks.

so if i get it right you like units to turn like they did in redalert1 and redalert2??? select order and magically turn from up to down!????

if they do that like cnc3 and maybe faster its so bad for your gamplay? cause i dont recall anyone complaing from the top players about the animation speed, now what if that was faster? i am not talking about pathfinding betwwen up and down, just a tiny animation, even robots turn rialistic.

 

i have reseen the gamplay video for 20th time, and i have seen that some animation are there and used periodically and some are not!???

 

for example check the gp video when the gurdian allied tank patrol goes arround the clif watch very cerefully the tanks when they turn, sometimes they turn with very good turn animation and other times just magicaly turn.... :(

 

the same goes for soviet dreadnights....

Yes

select order and magically turn from up to down!????

Tanks and such didn't do that, they would turn 45 degrees at a time which looks perfectly fine really.

What your forgetting is the fact that things like cleaning up the animation and so on will come when they move onto final phase and start polishing the overall game as much as possible. I'm going to guess and say that what we watched in the demo video was an alpha version of the game.

I just think its better that they spin, its just that tiny bit faster. No one complained because its a non issue. I mean its not as though this will do much of anything to gameplay, its just my preference they just spin. :P

The same applies in C&C3, if you give the order, they start the little turn, but if you do it again, they will spin and go do their thing.

i know about beta and alpha phases, i am refering to the post was made also in this site few months ago, where they said about the features in ra3...i am looking for it .....maybe you know what i am talking about it and find it faster sonic....

In my opinion Generals/Zero Hour had the best movement locomotors so far. For the most part the locomotors in C&C3 are crap.

I like the quick 180 that RA2 has.

 

For the record, Gens/ZH has the absolute worst movement of any C&C.

For the record KW Global Conquest has poor "turn" movements too...
