Error, Ecomponent Error, can not edit anything.. help

Recommended Posts

I recently installed Tibed, and am trying to edit Generals Zero hour (first decade)

When I open the program, I select "c&c generals zero hour"

then I hit "start new project"

I hit "open window"

it then says select item from tree, and the top of the tree says "c&c generals" (note, doesnt say zero hour here, not sure if it is supposed to)

I can then expand the various trees, but no matter what I click on as far as different categories (for example. I expand America, and then click on "air"

I get the following error message.

"there was an error that was not handled by any code"

Error type: Ecomponent Error

Error Message: A component named frmListEditFrame already exists.

And on the top of the window it says "error, uncaught exception"

The game is installed on D:\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\

Tibed is installed in

C:\Program Files\TibEd 2

I am new to editing generals, so I don't really know too much what I am doing.

Please help heh.

Also, is there a way to extract ini files and manually edit them like in the old Red Alert games?

Thanks

This was already asked recently, this was Koen's response:

Unfortunately, Generals TFD is broken. They updated Generals.exe for the new copy protection, and now "-mod" will no longer work.

TibEd 2 can edit:

- original C&C Generals, original Zero Hour

- The First Decade Zero Hour

The following is buggy:

- The First Decade Generals does not accept mods, unless you install the illegal NoCD of the original Generals

First, I can't go through every post on this forum, I don't have time.

Second, I did read that post, but it didnt ask what I am asking.. It asked about editing first decade generals, which is not what I am trying to mod.

it says in the answer that you can edit first decade zero hour , which is what I am trying to edit, so I'm not sure how that answers my question.

First, I can't go through every post on this forum, I don't have time.

I wasn’t implying you should have, just stating that it was so you could locate it if you wanted the full discussion.

Second, I did read that post, but it didnt ask what I am asking.. It asked about editing first decade generals, which is not what I am trying to mod.

You had mentioned it said "c&c generals", so I thought, perhaps, it wasn’t recognizing ZH and you were then editing Generals, though you didn’t intend to (which the purpose of my post indicates won’t work).

it says in the answer that you can edit first decade zero hour , which is what I am trying to edit, so I'm not sure how that answers my question.

It was not necessarily meant to provide the answer you seek, I merely mentioned it as a possible problem. I am not an expert on TibEd, nor especially TibEd 2, but since Koen is probably your best bet for an answer, I gave you his own words which is the best I can offer.

He comes and answers all the new threads in this section every month or so.

So be patient for an answer.

There will be additional information about this error if you go to "Debug->Show Log" menu on the TibEd main form. Can you copy/paste that here? Especially the last part will be important, so you might be able to leave out the first part (if it's too long). We're looking for the error messages.

I believe I figured out what the problem for this was, in case anyone else runs into this.

It seems that when I have the default .ini files all inside the zero hour folder it gives this error, so I had to remove most of the .ini files and it worked.

That would explain it. The error signals that it's trying to open a window again after a crash... you just didn't get any errors. Some inconsistent data files could explain the problem, because it might crash the TibEd parser if there are errors in there.

Are there INI files in the Data\INI folder inside your game folder? Then those are conflicting with TibEd somehow.
