Community Update from APOC

Recommended Posts

You only have to look at the news coverage here on CNCNZ.com to see that Red Alert 3 is dominating, but what about C&C 3 and Kane's Wrath? What's happened to these games, especially Kane's Wrath. The fans have been asking and now APOC, the C&C community manager, has answered.....

Hey guys,

I find myself here again giving a brief "state of the union", because I've seen increasing threads and e-mails about my whereabouts and commitment to the C&C 3/KW community.

I would first like to say that I am as passionate as ever about this spectrum of the community and these two games and will continue fighting daily to see them supported.

I am currently discussing internally about the feasibility and timeline of our next patch for Kane's Wrath. As i said in a previous post, I don't have any further updates at this moment but our recent patch 1.01 has barely been out a few weeks and I would hope gives us some breathing room and reprieve from the high demands.

We're in the midst of finaling Red Alert 3 and I am a huge component of that as a producer and community manager with the commitments I have. 2POC's internship ended last week, but you'll still seem him around plenty once he gets acclimated with his school schedule. I am also in Leipzig, Germany this week for the Games Convention for Red Alert 3 and am typing this message to you at 3AM. It's incredibly intense and busy right now.

But, my heart is still engraved in C&C 3 and Kane's Wrath and I am working equally as hard on the prospect of our next patch and the SDK. I will say very honestly the MOD SDK situation is looking increasingly dire due to technical reasons, but I am exercising every option. I am also working early on our RA3 MOD SDK which I value as critical to the community to have as early on as possible.

And of course we have the Kane's Wrath Ladder Season going on right now, so we're not about to patch in the middle of that and throw the balance off, at least not right now.

So overall, its a very intense time right now and I am working intensely to share focus with Red Alert 3 and C&C3 / KW, the forum mods are working hard to keep peace here, our volunteer cheat-team is working hard to keep the game free of DC'ers, spammers, etc, this is an intense battlefield for APOC's Army at the moment.

I understand the desires of having a new patch soon and the SDK asap, but I want you guys to know neither is forgotten, its simply a busy time these past couple of weeks especially with Red Alert 3, but I assure you I am working on all the above for C&C 3 and KW to the best that I can internally and with my strong army of volunteers.

I appreciate those who understand and understand those who would like to see increased face time, I will absolutely keep you guys posted, especially when I have more concrete information. Unfortunately, I still don't have that but I hope the patch is keeping you busy in the meantime.

I will be around, once I'm back from Germany next week.

Cheers, your community manager (4 years now! =)

So C&C 3 and Kane's Wrath haven't been forgotten about, they are simply buried under the mammoth amount of Red Alert 3 coverage. You can check APOC's original post right here.

I'm constantly amazed given EA's resources that they can only have a single development team available. Oh well. Bring on RA3! :D

EA aims to beat blizzard's games... but I don't think they'll be able to beat blizzard's patching. Blizzard is still patching StarCraft but EA can't even say for sure that they will patch KW a second time.

Why does everyone bring Blizzard into this on going conversation? Since when were Blizzard the benchmark?

Is there a better patching benchmark?

Blizzard does support their games very well, although even their games are far from perfect.

I hope RA3 will sell well so that more funds will be transfered to the EALA team, thus providing them with more time for already releeased and future titles.

Sure Blizzard make some nice games. But the amount of time it takes for them to do so...

I just smile when dealing with Blizzard fanboies and know SC2 won't be about till at least 2010. ^_^

I'll admit that I know absolutely nothing about Starcraft or SC2 for that matter, but by the sounds of it Blizzard seem to be pretty intent on making sure that the experience the players get of these games is close to perfect.

I'm not saying that EA don't try but when you get a company that makes sure that it try's to balance a game even long after it's shelf life to ensure the players have a good experience then surely that is setting a benchmark for other developer's to follow. They are showing commitment to their product.

On one hand you have a company that seems to go out of it's way to make a game as balanced as possible and on the other you have a company that releases a few patches then put's the majority of it's resources into another product, thus leaving the previous game behind.

Having said that it is good to note that EA are intending to have a 'live' team so to speak to work on the existing games once they are released, leaving the developers to work on the new projects. We have this type of set up in my company. We do two releases of our software a year and have a 'live' team who fix any problems on the pre-exisitng softtware in circulation, leaving our developers free to work on the new product.

Things like this take time to implement however and so I wouldn't be expecting things to be flawless for RA3 but hopefully, the attitude so to speak, of Blizzard can provide inspiration for the EA team, even if it's in the form of a rivalry between brand support.

Forgive me if I have misspelled anything or if anything does not make 100% sense, as i have had a couple of drinks tonight :D
