C&C 4 Unit Profile - GDI Sandstorm

Recommended Posts

The latest Command & Conquer 4 unit profile has been posted on the Official C&C Site. Its the return of the classic Hover MLRS, now known as the GDI Sandstorm. And as always this profile feature a short in game video, concept art and extra information. Here is a sample....

A common complaint amongst the veterans of the Second Tiberium War on active duty during the Third was the lack of a fast-moving, hard-hitting patrol vehicle - such as the MLRS Mk.II hovertank - within the GDI arsenal. While groups such as the Steel Talons group were capable of crushing any Nod battalion foolish enough to hold their ground, the Brotherhood's disparate and highly mobile "hit & run" strike cells consistently eluded GDI's reach. It was the inception of the Tiberium Control Network that changed GDI Strategic Command views on battlefield mobility, resulting in the reinstatement of the MLRS program and the resultant creation of the GDI Sandstorm MLRS.

Now fully deployed across all GDI frontlines, the Sandstorm has gained a reputation as one of the most flexible weapons platform on the modern battlefield. Armed with the most advanced multi-launch rocket system, originally developed during the Second Tiberium War, the Sandstorm is designed to find and eliminate Nod aircraft, frequently escorting other GDI units throughout the combat zone. The vehicle is equipped with the latest in anti-gravity hover technology, giving the Sandstorm more mobility than most GDI assault vehicles, especially vital when hunting Nod's bolstered airforce.

"If it's on terra firma, the Steel Talons can crush it like a soda can. It's when you kick a beehive full of Nod flyers that you' start wishing there was a bunch of Sandstorms in your loadout." - Major Albert W. Eckhart, Steel Talons 151st Special Armor Brigade.

Yes indeed.

It looks ok and puts Nod's units to shame, but I think it looks too curvy and sci-fi, which is more a Nod or Scrin style. The TS/FS one is more boxy and utilitarian and gets my vote as the better design of the two.

I dunno, to me it seems like a logical progression from the last design.

Maybe... I'm not saying it's horrible, that honor goes to some other C&C4 designs, I just don't think it looks right. My opinion is just my opinion though.

It looks fine, the only thing that is unusual is how it can cliff jump. :P

It's looks good, but... Cliff-jumping seriously wtf?

It looks ok even if they tweak the model to make it as close to the TS design.

And wow, it jumps and land on the ground? That's super anti-gravity and defies the laws of physics, not to mention as though like the unit is as light as a feather rather than as heavy as 2 predator tanks.

Red Alert can bend the laws of physics, but not the Tiberium universe!

It already hovering, so its weight is irrelevant. This is merely technology, not cartoon physics.

But why base it off the RA3 destroyer?

I'm talking about the front fins..

(The jump animation is ridiculous. The idea of traversing cliffs is a good idea, but the execution [like so many things] is poor.)

Indeed, I can only hope this is just "place holder" animation. It will look even worse when we see what other units can "cliff jump". Here is hoping the mammoth can, that will be epic. :P

No the current Nod Avatar cliff jumping would be epic.... maybe it can use it's cannon's to build a ladder!

No no! the Mastodon should cliff jump!

Everything in a 30Meter radius is smashed, because of the! VAST COLLOSAL size! Of Mother mastodon!

Not bad to see the Hover MLRS return.

Indeed. The Hover MLRS was my third most-liked GDI unit from TS/FS, after the Mk II and Disruptor.

That's also why I have higher expectations for the thing's return...
