Tiberium Insurgence - Harvest Tiberium in C&C 4

Recommended Posts

So you want to see some of the more traditional and classic gameplay elements of Command & Conquer return in Command & Conquer 4? Then you should check out the Tiberium Insurgence map created by TheScientist. The basis of Tiberium Insurgence is to prove that the classic Tiberium harvesting can be added to the gameplay of C&C 4. It's not 100% perfect but it does work and radically changes how C&C 4 plays. Below is an explanation by the map creator of how the C&C 4 harvesting system works....

The Harvesting System

The harvesting is on a node system, meaning that there are three refineries in the map (next to the one of the three fields), and to activate the harvesting process, you have to capture the building(which is a mutant hovel).

Once you have captured the hovel, a harvester (a civilian transport) is spawned, and it automatically starts to collect Tiberium from the respective field. The harvesters can only collect Tiberium from it's home field.

Once a crystal is collected, it brings it back to a collection area (which is marked by the metal plates on the ground around the hovel) drops off the crystal, and you are then awarded with the extra CP. You can only collect tib in the collection area if you own the hovel

The hovel refinery is just like any mutant hovel, you can still build forgotten units there, you can capture it by sending units to it, and you can attack it to restore it's neutrality. If that happens, the harvester is immediately killed, and you lose the collection area.

If the harvester is killed while you still own the refinery, a new one is spawned after 25 seconds. Also, if the harvester is carrying a crystal when it dies, the Tiberium is dropped, but then (due to scripting reasons) cannot be recollected by the harvester. You have to collect it manually. Another thing is that the harvester is not controllable by any player, and it's movement is entirely scripted

To the AI, it does rather well: it collects tib manually, captures and attacks the hovel refineries and kills harvesters. The only thing it doesn't do is harassment. However, I would also recommend playing with medium AI and upwards, as the easy AI doesn't reliably do the things said above.

Sounds pretty cool, be a lot better if there was a video attached to the story, but all in all i give the guy/s credit for it. Too bad its just a map and not a full blown mod, cause id definitely purchase the game for a Classic C&C Mod for C&C4. Until my dreams are realized, C&C4 stays blacklisted.

While it's a start, this is still far from classic C&C.

Yeah, you can even still collect the tiberium crystals with normal units.

It's a little late for this great map news since the map was released June 11th.

I feel the same way.
