[Solved?] Video and Visual Bugs

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone.

I have a problem running RA2/YR. In the intro movies, there is no video and only sound. The menu buttons do not appear, unless the screen is manually refreshed by Alt+Tab and refocusing the window (a screenshot is not available, due to the sudden re-appearance of buttons and proper visual etc. in PrintScreens). In-game, there are stationary spots and other spots that change, leading to the game being completely unplayable. Anyone have this problem, suggestions on how to fix it, or suspect a cause?

Note: All .exe files are set to Windows 98/ME compatibility and are "Run as Administrator".

OS: Windows 7 x64 Home Premium

Processor: Intel i7 2630QM @ 2.0 GHz

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (Primary) & Intel Integrated Graphics

DirectX 11 is installed and fully updated.

Graphics Card drivers are also fully updated.

RA v1.006, YR v1.002 UMP. Both vanilla.

first question is it a legit copy? and second have you tried lowering your screen resolution to combat this issue as this generally works for me.

also try starting with a fresh install minus the patches, as sometimes the patches can also render a game unplayable.

Yes, and I just tried both your suggestions. Sadly, they did not help.

Sounds almost like a ddraw.dll being in the RA2 directory.

Nothing there.

The problem seems to be solved, however, by running the game in windowed mode. It runs noticeably slower, and there are still some graphical glitches. For anyone else with the problem, you have to set your bit depth to 16bit.
