Plok 321 Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) I've had this idea for months now, and I think it's appropriate now that we get irregular CBCPT releases and Sybert is more busy with college. I was thinking of creating a Command & Conquer community-made account on LiveStream that would showcase new fan videos/music, review mods (as in, showcase and rate), broadcast live matches (every game, including oldies and excluding TT), and possibly have some interviews, live or pre-recorded, with mod teams, site staff members or, if I can pull something off (in some hyperfantastic case), game devs. It is not intended to be attached to any site in particular, but rather all of them. The name itself was inspired by E3 and W3N - Command (and) Conquer Community Network. Believe me, this name came up to me long before CnCSaga decided to put the "© 2012 Community Network" image at the end of this video. It would be broadcast on a regular basis either by me or some team members I'd eventually find, I was thinking every or every other Friday evening (European perspective). I hope to learn how to record on LiveStream in a way that the videos can be watched at a later point, as I think I've seen on someone's LS account. I require some opinions on this. If this is done properly, it might bring some life to this community. Traymen 6 Posted November 24, 2012 Personally, i wouldn't dare to start new project while everyone in CNC Community awaits new Generals. Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted November 24, 2012 All the more reasons to do it. C&C2013 will, at least temporarily, return some old fans and I'll have more material to work with. Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 39 Posted November 24, 2012 I kinda of like the idea you're doing, Plokite. Good luck. 1 Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted November 25, 2012 Well if you guys need help with any livestream software I'm up for helping. I know my way around Xsplit, DXTory, Open Broadcaster Software and FFsplit and how to stream both modern and old C&C games. Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted November 25, 2012 Well, it seems Livestream can only allow registered users to see the video if it's a free account (screw them). Twitch.tv seems much more reasonable, but Xsplit requires Flash for IE (WTF????), while other supported broadcasters are not free. Tore, can DXTory be used for Twitch through some bypass method or should I just download Flash for IE, even though I use Firefox? Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) Twitch.tv supports all streaming software, they just advertise a few. DXTory is a tool you use in co-junction with a livestreaming program to hook into games and give better game performance while streaming. When I stream I use Open Broadcaster Software. As yes Flash for IE is a requirement to use Xsplit, you need to install it, but you don't need to use iE. Just keep in mind that streaming is demanding for your computer and it's fiddly to setup. Plok 321 Posted November 25, 2012 I'm on XP, so I can't use Open Broadcaster Software. Is FFSplit any good as an alternative? Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) FFSplit is a light alternative, but it doesn't support any forms of overlays at all and it doesn't support multiple scenes. And OBS should work on XP as far as I'm aware. You need .NET Framework 4.0 and Service Pack 3. Edited November 25, 2012 by Tore Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted November 25, 2012 In their FAQ, they say XP isn't supported due to DX10 incompatibility. Guess Xsplit will have to do. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted November 25, 2012 To get any decent audio from Xsplit you need a subscription. Share this post Link to post
Tore 33 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) The free version of that seems to have limited time for streaming, it uses Silverlight and requires IIS. This is unsupported by Twitch and most free streaming services which are RTMP based. Edited November 25, 2012 by Tore Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted November 25, 2012 Well, I'm left with Xsplit with all its disadvantages. OBS can't even run the installer on XP. Share this post Link to post
AZ-Stalker 88 Posted November 25, 2012 Alternative: C3N YouTube channel. Not what you're aiming for, but just wanted to remind you of another option in case the idea doesn't goes as expected. Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted November 25, 2012 Can't quite stream there live without a webcam. I'd also have to do some wacky stuff to have more than 15 minutes at my disposal per video. But it is considered for uploading special content. Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted November 26, 2012 Excellent. I'm learning to use Xsplit. The video quality is decent, but audio is bad, but not as bad as I expected - I'm sure that once I get speaking, it'll be reasonable. All in all, I'm actually satisfied. Now what I have to do is gather a team, create a programme and advertise it. Tore, you're an immediate candidate, of course, and I'll have a little help from outside this forum. Plok 321 Posted December 3, 2012 (edited) Hopefully, the first stream will *hopefully* air on December 14th. Here's a question for you: Which mod would you like to see reviewed in the mod review section? Edited December 3, 2012 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 39 Posted December 3, 2012 Hopefully, the first stream will *hopefully* air on December 14th. Here's a question for you: Which mod would you like to see reviewed in the mod review section? For C&C3 mods: A New Experience, Tiberium Essence, Tiberian Apocalypse, Tiberium Wars Advanced, CNC Fallout, The Forgotten and C&C Retarded For RA3 mods: The Red Alert, RA3 Paradox, RA3 Revolution, RA3 Insurrection For Generals mods: Rise of the Reds, C&C Shockwave, C&C All-Stars, Red Alert 3: The Third War Other C&C Mods: Mental Omega, Twisted Insurrection Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted December 3, 2012 Damn, forgot to mention - I was thinking of new releases, as people have mostly played all the older ones. The mods you mentioned might be kept as a reserve. For RA3 mods: The Red Alert(...) Done over a year ago Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 39 Posted December 3, 2012 Another question, will you implement a new section of the Battlecast Five (i.e. top 5 battlecast matches of replays from recent C&C games) named as "C3N's Top Five Replays of the Month"? Share this post Link to post
Plok 321 Posted December 3, 2012 No. Instead, I intended to feature live matches from all C&C games except Tiberian Twilight, giving advantage to older titles, unlike previous projects. 1 Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 290 Posted December 3, 2012 Right... so "giving advantage to older titles" is the excuse you're going with then? Share this post Link to post
