C&C - Free To Play Moves to Frostbite 3

Recommended Posts

GameIndustry International has posted an article summing up EA's upcoming games and their approximate release dates. While mentioning that some of them, including the new Command & Conquer, will be shown at E3 this June, they state that the game will be powered by DICE's new Frostbite 3 engine that should have its premiere in the upcoming Battlefield 4.

New titles from Bioware, DICE, and EA Sports will be shown off at E3 2013. Most of EA's future titles will be powered by DICE's Frostbite 3 engine, including Battlefield 4, Command and Conquer, and Dragon Age 3. The exception will be the EA Sports games, which will have a brand-new engine for next generation.

"I also want to call out a big accomplishment by the teams that built the development engines for our next generation of games -- Frostbite 3 engineered at DICE, and a brand new engine from EA Sports. These world class tech stacks are powering all of our development on the new systems," said Gibeau.

"This isn't a vision - these engines are fully functional right now and powering the games you'll see at E3 in June. You'll hear more about Frostbite 3 and our new sports engine at our E3 Investor Breakfast in June.

They obviously ignore the "graphics don't make the game" rule.

Personally I think its a bad thing cos it drives the min sys requirements up. IMO a F2P game should have a large install base to be successful and enjoyable overtime. I don't think DX11 only (FB3 DX11 only right?) is a good thing at the beginning of the C&C life cycle.

On the other hand I know it would be beneficial in the future cos porting it to FB3 in the future would be more risky for EA.

Finally.

What the hell does that even mean in this context? Finally they did something that they didn't even have to do? Finally they switched over to a slightly newer engine, despite Frostbite 2 already being a huge improvement? This will probably do nothing more than further raise the expectations of the user's setup even more. Or it won't even make a difference at all. But to say finally when you haven't even seen how the game works at its best with Frostbite 2 doesn't really make any bit of sense. To say finally implies you were waiting for this to happen for a long time.

"Finally" :rolleyes:

Jeez, what a stupid thing to say.

EALA should have been using Frostbite 3 on C&C at the very beginning of the development, but Frostbite 3 is just a small upgrade over Frostbite 2.

It was back then when some one suggested about this in the C&C official forums to upgrade the graphics engine, and the developers responded.

the FB 3 has as a "major" change the global or specific area Wind effects, nothing drastic compaired to FB2, it sure looks even more realistic,also updates in movements, new explosion tweaks etc, more details can be found here, its for the BF 4 game, but the enine details are also explained in this video guite nicly.

Are you aware that the Frostbite 3 engine DIDN'T EXIST by the time C&C F2P was originally announced in December 2011, not to mention by the start of its development in February that year? Dammit, use that thing on your neck.
