COD Ghosts 50GB install requirement

Recommended Posts

If you were putting off installing your new hard drive, now might be the time. The minimum specifications for the PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, posted by Nvidia, reveal a requirement for a staggering 50 GB of hard drive space. For reference, Borderlands 2 requires 13 GB, Far Cry 3 needs 15 GB, and the upcoming Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will eat 30 GB of your precious storage. If you are a typical Steam user, according to the monthly voluntary survey, installing Call of Duty: Ghosts could require more than 10% of your total hard drive space, not to mention the time required to download it. The download requirements for console versions are yet to be revealed, but a similarly large investment of space is likely.

Here's the full list of specifications provided by Nvidia:

Minimum System Requirements:

OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better
RAM: 6 GB RAM
HDD: 50 GB HD space
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti / ATI Radeon HD 5870 or better
Sound: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
DirectX: 11
Internet: Broadband connection and service required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet connection required for activation.

Recommended System Requirements:

Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

Call of Duty: Ghosts arrives for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC on November 5. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will have Call of Duty: Ghosts as a launch title. Activision has announced that early adopters will be able to upgrade their games to the next generation systems for as little as $10. As long as they have space to install it, of course.

Fifty gigabytes for a FPS? BF3 with all its patches and expansion packs comes in at 34.2gb on my computer. Damn. :o

And I'm complaining on StarCraft II with the HotS expansion taking up 15 GB.

I hope that the game had better be 3 times longer than the average Modern Warfare game despite of the 50 GB HD space. Only one problem though, Activision did not specify a Blu-ray drive required for installation, because then otherwise the installation may take as long as an average-time movie!

What are the chances that GTA V could get 50 GB required hard drive space if the PC version is released? A dual-layer Blu-ray disc qualifies for it. :P

What are the chances that GTA V system requirements could be similar to COD Ghosts? Overwhelming.... :o

Well I have 16GB, with room for 16Gb more. :P

The good news, only 40 GB of hard drive space is required but that's still too high.

The bad news, THE GAME MUST WORK ON A 64-BIT OS with a GeForce 450 AS A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT! NOOOOOOO!!!!

I can't believe Activision just upgraded from their outdated IW engine to an enhanced IW engine that's way too high for gamer enthusiasts.

Also, no mention of a Blu-ray drive as a system requirement for a PC? That would fit very well.

That's an instant epic fail for very high system requirements (joining Watch Dogs), and that might have been the PC system requirements for possibly........... GTA V?

Oh, come on, Activision. EA's version of Battlefield 4 does not need a 64-bit OS as a minimum requirement and their Frostbite 3 engine does not need very high system requirements. Sales will go down if PC gamers don't have 64-bit OSs.

Everytime I hear or read about Call of Duty games, all I can think of is:

A 64-bit OS as a requirement is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a good thing. More can finally be done with PC games if they're not stuck designing for arcane bull**** like a 32-bit system or that pile of **** we call Windows XP. More resources means better games and better aesthetics. I welcome this change. Just like I welcome killing off XP.

Bad news once again. Early reviews are out, and most players are saying the SAME OLD THING: outdated graphics with outdated gameplay with nothing significantly new.

But wait a minute, with those very high system requirements for the PC, how the **** did the graphics for the most recent IW engine is still the same old thing from Modern Warfare 1-3?

I wished Activision moved on from the Quake engine (aka "id Tech" engine -- Doom 3/Quake 4 used "id Tech 4" engine) and create a new game engine.

Besides, Unreal Engine 3 still has lots more for content variety and Call of Duty should have deserved to use that engine earlier. Even Uncle Sam and company still uses it for all military/medical simulated games. Bioshock and Gears of War series were also epic with that engine as well.

Even Unreal Engine 4 vs Frostbite 3 isn't going to happen until next year.

I don't think that qualifies as "news". :P

Heard the PC version has some serious issues too. Not pleased with that but it's only IW in name these days. I'll wait a month to pick up Ghosts. Should have it all cleared up by then.

WOW! What a shock. Its the same old a game with a new coat paint. God the CoD franchise is so shallow. Yet the hardcore fans lap up.

Kind of like John Cena in the WWE....

PC Gamer review: http://www.pcgamer.com/review/call-of-duty-ghosts-pc-review/

I would agree with that review and I would rate this game a D if I had played it. This could be the most overrated game of the year.

People wanted something new and with the new system requirements and the new screenshots, this definitely looked like pretty much the same old thing, except for the new interface and fonts.
