PurpleGaga27 39 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) Here's a short-list of 92 games that are fully free-to-play (you may not find all of them there but at at least some may be the ones you might be looking for) http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/djames216/blog/free-pc-games-temporary-alternative/99821/ There's one entry that is incorrect, Starcraft II, a starter version is essentially a demo/shareware version. MrFlibble 31 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Hmm, this list from the same website is much more detailed. The short one seems to be mostly aimed at advertising online-only games. As for System Shock being legally free, it doesn't seem to be actually the case. The "official disclaimer" Giant Bomb has linked to isn't in any way "official", it's been posted by a forum administrator of some System Shock fan forum: Most of the downloads on systemshock.org are game modifications created by fans, distributed with permission of the respective authors. The Looking Glass Classics (LGC) are games created by the companies Looking Glass Studios and the closely related Origin Systems from 1991-1997. Looking Glass Studios (previously "Looking Glass Technologies") folded in 2000 and their publisher Origin was disbanded in 2004. We distribute these games here free of charge, but we do not claim to hold any rights to them. To the best of our knowledge they have been long discontinued by their publishers and are not being sold anymore. If you know otherwise or if you own relevant copyrights, please contact the forum's Administrator and the respective downloads will be removed. Thank you for your attention. Basically this just says what a typical "abandonware" website would say: "those games are no longer sold and there's no monetary harm if we distribute them without official permission". So much for an "official disclaimer". Edited October 21, 2013 by MrFlibble Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 39 Posted October 30, 2013 Here are some other lists (if you never went there -- those lists are still incomplete though):https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commercial_games_released_as_freewarehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_freeware_video_gameshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_multiplayer_online_gameshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_massively_multiplayer_online_gamesSo far the most recent commercial PC freeware this year according to Wikipedia is Battle of the Eras and the latest free-to-play games (excluding End of Nations) are Age of Wulin and Guns and Robots.
