Ground Control freeware impossible to install?

The good news, Ground Control is freeware since 2004 but not the expansion.

The bad news, GameSpy and FilePlanet are gone leaving the link(s) to obtain a serial key to activate during installation via the Internet is impossible. However GOG.com still has it available for $5.99 USD with the expansion, but I only wanted the original for free. The link to get the serial for Ground Control is still there, but requires a login that doesn't work anymore: http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/groundcontrol/

 

Is this impossible now just like FarCry and the others?

 

If this is true, Ground Control shouldn't be considered freeware now unless the developer considers to call that freeware again with an official download link. Even Wikipedia has yet to mention Ground Control to be no longer called freeware. Also I will remove Ground Control from the free-to-play games list if this winds up like FarCry.
