Red Alert: A Path Beyond - Fan-Made Patch 2.1.3.1 Released

Recommended Posts

A new patch for Red Alert: A Path Beyond, by Bluehell Productions, has been released. But this patch comes from an unexpected source, the fans. Community member Pyryle has been working hard (with the help of suggestions from other members) to make a new balance patch to deal with issues currently plaguing the previous version of Red Alert: A Path Beyond.

... um kinda weird... but okay. Then again, I don't know if I have a played a match this year.

Its a bit strange to me that fan made patch would be considered "official" by Bluehell Productions themselves. I'm sure they have their reasons for this.

Bascially, a lot of people were fed up with the tech level game mechanic that was introduced with Gamma. After many discussions, one community member decided to make a fan patch to get the feeling of the older APB builds back.

The Gamma game branch isn't being officially worked on any more, in favour of a radical new update that will bring lots of new changes to the game, but this won't be out for a while. With this in mind we have decided to make Pyryle's patch official as a stop-gap measure to fix some of the bad decisions that were made in Gamma.

I think it's a good approach as a stop-gap...

Kinda like a popular mod to the popular mod.

It may seem a bit unorthodox at first, but Pyryle has been very involved as a tester and more recently as a moderator (which are generally testers who we have come to really appreciate). The development of this patch went through the normal feedback process with our full test team during its creation, so it's not just some collection of loose changes being blindly deployed or anything.

In the past we've often done concurrent development of different versions of different projects. As One Winged Angel points out, this particular branch/flavor of APB was not being actively worked on, and Pyryle was able to step in to address some common feedback. Some of the changes coming in the next big version increment have been slid back to this version. Likewise, many of these changes from this branch can be reflected in the next big version increment, which is taking some time to come together because it changes many gameplay mechanisms and deep engine capability.

So, rest assured, we fully endorse this version and hope you will enjoy it. Give it a shot and give us your feedback.
