Hatred Trailer is Kind of Disturbing

Recommended Posts

I saw this on Kotaku about a new game called Hatred from a Polish development team called Destructive Creations.

Hatred is an isometric shooter with disturbing atmosphere of mass killing, where player takes the role of a cold blood antagonist, who is full of hatred for humanity. It's a horror, but here YOU are the villain. Wander the outskirts of New York State, seek for victims on seven free-roam levels. Fight against law enforcement and take a journey into the antagonist's hateful mind. Gather equipment of the dead ‘human shields’ to spread Armageddon upon society. Destroy everything on your way of hunt and fight back when it's disturbed...

...just don't try this at home and don't take it too seriously, it's just a game. :)

The question you may ask is: why do they do this? These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment – we wanted to create something against trends. Something different, something that could give the player a pure, gaming pleasure. Herecomes our game, which takes no prisoners and makes no excuses. We say ‘yes, it is a game about killing people’ and the only reason of the antagonist doing that sick stuff is his deep-rooted hatred. Player has to ask himself what can push any human being to mass-murder. We provoke this question using new Unreal Engine 4, pushing its physics (or rather PhysX) systems to the limits and trying to make the visuals as good as possible. It's not a simple task, because of the game's non-linear structure and a lot of characters on the screen. But here at Destructive Creations, we are an experienced team and we know how to handle the challenge!

Watch the trailer below. Warning: it's exceedingly graphic and depicts the slaughter of horrified people who scream and plead for their lives.

Give the article at Kotaku a read, it rather interesting in the comparisons with other games like GTA V http://kotaku.com/the-kind-of-video-game-violence-that-disturbs-me-1647874540

I like Destructive Creations' logo. :)

The game looks kind of monotonous. I have no issue with fantasy murder of innocents, but there should be some kind of point to it.

Also, the main character wants to die, I do not like characters intent on losing. One against a hundred, or a thousand, or a million, the odds against him could be astronomical, and death nearly certain, but he should want to live.

I hate to stoop to a pop culture cliché here, but it is, I think, relevant. What we have here fits the formula:

  • Guy full of hatred goes on killing spree
  • ????
  • Profit!
Without an end goal, it seems to me this game is pushing boundaries for the purpose of pushing boundaries. There is no bravery in that, just a lust for attention.

Never, ever link to Kotaku. They don't deserve the ad revenue. They're part of Gawker media and they're nothing but SJW clickbait retards who couldn't write a real article to save their lives. Anyhow, the game should be somewhat interesting to say the least. I'll probably pick it up for a peek to see what it's all about. I suppose it's pushing boundaries that games aren't all about the good guys winning, which is fine. Makes for something different like Spec Ops: The Line.

Disturbing? Not really, he's not very different from the hundreds of other protagonists that go out and commit mass murder in video games.

This looks worse than Hellgate: London, GTA and Postal combined. :o

As for the video, the video has somewhat turned to private so I cannot watch it.

Looks like they made a new version of the trailer. I updated the original post above. This is what they said about the updated trailer....

We've had to redo this trailer, cutting out Unreal Engine trademarks and also New York City asked us to cut out NYPD trademarks (we thought it's a public property, not a registered trademark), so it's censored now in the video.

I also found this article interesting to read, basically accussing members of dev team of being "Neo Nazis" http://gamepolitics.com/2014/10/20/hatred-developer-creative-destruction-denies-accusations-some-studio-members-are-neo-nazi

DD - what are some of your preferred alternate news sites for gaming etc?

I think this sort of game, the premise... is vile.

I don't have one. I just browse Reddit for that pretty much. I avoid any site who employs SJW clickbait writers, which, unfortunately, is most of them. I'll use PC Gamer here and there. Haven't seen anything ridiculous on it yet. I don't console game and have no need to see news for it.
