Jelly Games Renegade Servers Closing

Some sad news to report. It has been announced that the long running Jelly Games Renegade Servers are going to be closing down at the end of next month. Here's part of the announcement made on the Jelly Games Forums a couple days ago....

 

It is with deep regret that we announce that our long running Renegade server will close at the end of August, the date will be around the 26th. We have had an amazing run lasting over 11 years. At our peak we ran 5 well populated servers just after the merger with Ren-Archive. There are very few players now, and the regulars that still play have found other communities offer the best arena to play in and we are fine with that, it’s great that someone has found the right chemistry to keep this game going.

Unfortunate. I never did get to enjoy the old Renegade multiplayer much. Didn't have stable internet back then during its best days.

I have not played renegade in several years, but I used to play it super heavy in 2006-7... Renegade was my first online FPS. Loved it dearly.

 

But I agree, Renegade is almost 10 years old. It is about time it be put to rest.. even if it is just Jelly. I think the last time I played, there was Jelly and maybe 2 other servers on.

 

What other servers are there, aside from Jelly, now a days?

They could technically still organize scheduled events and start up a server as needed. Bet that would fill it up for at least the day of an event. Not every end has to be an absolute end.

Had some good times on Jelly when I was rather new to Renegade.

 

They were an absolute positive in the C&C community, and I'm sorry to see them go. I think I'll try to get a couple games in before they shut down completely.
