Petroglyph's 8-Bit Armies / 8-Bit Hordes/ 8-Bit Invaders

Recommended Posts

Guest Stevie_K

I'm not talking about multiple deadlines, I'm talking about the product release deadline. The only deadline that is relevant to this topic. The only deadline that matters to anyone other than the team working on the project. Don't set up a straw man and argue semantics.

I am starting to wonder if you are just a troll seeing how far outside reality you can get me to follow you. If you still want to play ignorant after this, I will not play along with you. The discussion is only just barely still on topic anyway.

I find it hard not to question people who continues to express themselves in generalized statements. I'm sorry for you if you feel like that makes me ignorant towards you. I'll refrain from responding to it in the future.

You left out that I didn't make this statement before they also said that they cut lots of dialogue. If you ignore half the context it doesn't make your opinion more valid.
There's also a different between "it's just [...]" and "it sounds like [...]".

I did read that. If you think that what I said was about the validity of my opinion then you completely missed the point.

I was just saying your point is invalid as you didn't include the context and with context your statement/point was just wrong.

For all those that havent seen it: the current tech tree.

Not sure if I would call that a tree, more like a sapling...

I don't think I've ever seen an RTS (wannabe) with this few units. Or one with only a single faction.

The things dev's try to get away with by calling it :"a design choice" or "artistic direction".

Artistic direction just as their "direction" in having all objects to have no common artistic direction but being low poly?

Interview with Frank Klepacki, features some samples of the music from the game.

This interview failed to convince me that this game will be any good. The music was well done, but music is only an ambiance - it doesn't make the game.

I actually got the game because I wanted to be wrong. But ****, that game is bad. Basically every aspect of it, down to the menus (if you can even call them that) and buttons.

Seriously the only good thing about it is the music.

Btw it's so bad that if a seconds super weapon gets into play the timer of the first one is replaced with the second.

Another swing and miss for Petroglyph. And people keeping wanting EA to "give" them the C&C IP and let them make a new C&C game

I've played it for bout an hour now. Its really simplistic. Like really. :P But its very fast paced and entertaining to me at least. :) Spammy as ****, but I don't mind mindless spam.

I wouldn't say its a bad game. Just a very simple game.

At least its balanced. :P

If only EA owns Petroglyph, then yes. But then EA doesn't want to gamble owning any future EA studio in Sin City (I mean Las Vegas) and then shut it down if things don't go well. They already did it with Westwood Studios.

Once again, Frank Klepacki does it again with the composed music better than the game itself:

Says who? Is there a source for that statement? If Petroglyph was willing to sell itself (and with the games they've been releasing, that doesn't seem improbable), I would not be surprised if EA bought them.

How can you be negative about an homage to the classics?

The only flaw as far as I can see is the lack of unit qoutes. But other than that it's nice.
It's not a big title obviously but if it sell well maybe it can bring Petroglyph enough revenue to develop something greater?

One can easily be negative about an homage if it's a bad one, which it is.

Because apart from a few hints at C&C-style RTSes, it is an insubstantial game.

They already did big titles, I hope you don't need refreshing your memory with Grey Goo, End of Nations (development hell), Universe at War: Earth Assault...

For $15, it's a bargain. Sure, it doesn't have layers of complexity and you don't need a $5000 PC to play on super mega ultra settings, but it is fun. It's very Command & Conquer. Easy to play, easy to run and quite fun. There are some flaws but since we're not talking major $60 AAA title, it's pretty damn good. If they revamped the controls and there were unit voices, this would be a pretty damn good game. Everyone complaining is trying to call this C&C when it's not. It is meant to be its own game and it has a charm that probably won't be matched for a good time to come. All in all, it's worth the meager asking price.

It's Minecraft meets Army Men 3D in an RTS. That's all this is. Simple, accessible and friendly to anyone who gives it a shot.

If any of you have noticed, there's a "Coming Soon?" button to the lower left of the main menu, which leads you to a screenshot of a new faction, something fantasy-based with castles and orcs.

On the GOG forums, someone asked if new factions would be free. A dev replied...

Sorry we've been a bit wishy-washy on that subject. We're not even certain ourselves yet, because it depends on the success of the game launch, and the amount of content we would be creating for a second faction.

If it's just a faction, we might just give it out for free to beef up (even more) the core content of the original game. If the campaign is getting heavily played and we feel that people are anxious for more content (more maps, a full campaign, etc.) then we may make it an add-on and give people that own the core game a discount.

For now, we're focused on showing everyone how fast we can react to requests in the forums for some minor improvements and bug fixes. Once we get past the next week we'll know better where we stand.

Thanks for asking, and supporting the game! We really appreciate it. :)

This is gonna be good! Petroglyph is a nice developer who care about their games and their fans. You gotta give it to them. They have released a lot of free content for Grey Goo which really shows how dedicated they are.

Btw CNCNZ should probably cover Petroglyphs games and stuff on the sites news page.

Giving things for free doesn't make them nice. For further information, see C&C: Tiberium Alliances and C&C2013.

They don't do things for the fans, more to stay afloat - else Grey Goo would be a far more enjoyable game post-release.

CNCNZ.com used to cover Petroglyph a long time ago in a separate section on the forums called Petro-Gamers. It was a virtual ghost town. Since nobody seemed to care, Sonic closed it down, and nobody cared then either.

I would actually try this game, but I can be bothered pissing around with Steam. Why do I need extra **** installed to play one game

Been there, done that. As Nmenth said it was called Petro-Gamers.com. Started out well but it died a slow painful death way back in June 2009. CNCNZ.com is strictly C&C related coverage.

It was more than just a section on the forums, there a fully fleshed out site to go with it too ;)

You can also buy it on GOG. They give you the option of either using their GOG Galaxy service (similar to Steam and Origin in the idea) or an individual installer for the game that you can put anywhere you like and backup however you like.

Eh, it was a long time ago. Besides, I probably never even looked at the site - I didn't actually know what Petro-Gamers was back then.
