Broadband Confirmed.... But....

Great news, I'll be switching to broadband soon, it was meant to be set up tomorrow, however I got a phone call this morning and I was told that our local exchange has reached capacity and there is a 2 week delay until they (Telecom NZ) upgrade the exchange :cry:

 

2 weeks of dial up internet hell still ahead of me.

That really does suck! I know what it feels like being off the broadband for a long time and having to put up with 56k, all I can say is I really feel for ya! Trust me, get this and you will not be looking back at all...

 

Once it's installed, Get a small glass cabinet and put you're modem inside it. Get a label that says. "Break only in dire desperate emergency or World War 3" on it

I don't think dial up is that bad, of course broadband is the way to go and I'm looking forward using it. But I only hate dial up when I have a large download ahead of me.

 

I think I can hold on for 2 more weeks

Looked at that option, but its really out of my budget. And just what I need, our bull**** neighbours stealing our bandwidth..... come to think of it they are to dumb to switch on a computer :lol:

 

So far I've either booked up or already delivered the following....

 

- 4 Port DSL Modem/Router

- 2 25M rolls of Cat6 (making our own leads etc....got it cheap to, about $15 each)

- 1 Crimping Tool for RJ45 plugs

- 1 Network Card (3 of the computers have onboard NICs, one does not)

 

Still need to get some more RJ45 plugs and 2 more ADSL line filters for the spare phone and my Sky Digital Decoder. And some wall plates and sockets.

Sorry but even 150k sucks.. I'm on cable, the connection is supposed to be 750k, but my download speed is the same as a 1Mbit connection at a steady 106kbps

Wireless is just unreliable, my school has it and the nerds with laptops do nothing but complain about it. My friend has wireless at home and she always signs on and off from IM programs.

 

BTW what's cat6? I thought network cable was cat5?

Cat6 is newer, designed for faster network speeds (10/100/1000 Mbps). Replaces Cat5 and Cat5e. Cat6 is backward compatible as well.

Plus the cost of Cat6 per meter had very little difference over the older Cat5.

I just got my Broadband upgraded yesterday to 1mb and all I can say is wow as I thought my old 512k was fast but now im getting 120-140kbs download speeds and I can finaly play Renegade with no lag.

I could play Renegade on dial-up with no lag, but there is no denying that you get a higher score with BB.

I found out the other day that my broadband connection will be activated on Tuesday 22nd of March, I can retire the old 56K modem very soon :lol:
