I need to share something with the C&C fans...

Recommended Posts

Hi, I know this subject has yet be discussed, but I have a thought that I need to share with all the C&C fans, sorry for my english, but I'll try to say with more clarity possible.

Well, we all say: "Poor Westwood... bought by EA..." or "unfortunate Westwood... EA dominated it".

WELL... We all loved Westwood, but they are guilty too, in my opinion, more than EA!

Why? Because the Westwood staff wanted to make more money when agreed to be part of EA, they don't cared with the future of the C&C franchise! They wanted to be part of a bigger company to make more money!

Westwood was destroyed by the capitalism and by their own ambition!

But I still loving the extinct Westwood and I still being one of the more faithful fans of C&C.

Thanks for reading my outpouring.

errr nope. It was never about the money. The initial agreement back in 1998 was signed because of the potential it brought to Westwood. I for one find it insulting that you can say it was Westwood's fault for being taken over.

Westwood's passion for C&C was by far more stronger than EA's ever will be. There were 3 C&C games in the works before the end consolidation of Westwood, and it was C&C passion all the way. EA originally poured alot of finances into the 3 projects and this community would have been hit with a great amount of titles.

But EA found that financially, the 3 projects plus what else Westwood were working on were too much. So a deal was struck to take over the rest of Westwood which meant that EA could divert all development could take place at EALA.

It's a dog eat dog world out there, and it's business. Unfortunately C&C's s**t has hit the fan big time. But it is by no means anybody's fault. It is the big guys with the cash in EA Redwood California that make the decisions.

But why the hell are we bringing this up again. Westwod is dead, people have gone to Petroglyph, Mark Skaggs has started up Trilogy Studios, the stragglers are working at other games companies and anyone else is stacking shelves at Wal-Mart.

Move on dude!

C&C King, I really have to say that was well said.

Marcos, I hated when you said Westwood wasn't passionate, if they were all in it for the money, why did so many quit instead of staying with EA? Its the leaders of the company that make a decision, not the employees.

okay guys, if Westwood was too passionate, why they agreed to be solded to EA?

Guys, I loved Westwood as much as you all, i need you to understand that. I'm just saying that we can't say ONLY EA is guilty, Westwood has his part in it too because they wanted to grow, to make more money, the y have to pay the bills too :-) . I don't said they were in all in it for the money, just that they have their part in the end of the classic games of C&C, whatever.

And King, I'm just sharing my thoughts with the community, if you don't want to bring this back again, you don't need to share your opinion with us. And if I moved on, I would not be here, I would be in the Battlefield 2 community or a Swat 4 Forum, 'cause those are new games, I play 'em, but I still a Command and Conquer fan more than anything.

Sorry for my english.

I will say again, but a bit more clearly. Westwood never agreed to be sold out, it was against their will. Westwood, wanted to stay as Westwood.

When EA bought Westwood, Louis Castle attempted to save a lot of jobs and draft as many of his original employees as possible into the EALA studio. Those who left before the transfer were either ending contracts, couldn't make the move, or didn't want to be part of such a large company.

Those who did stay were instantly promoted to team leaders and such due to their experience, and led less experienced EA employees to build experience. But with that extra power and responsibility (as is such in big companies) there was alot of pressure to perform. In comparison to Westwood's rather relaxed, passionate and focussed atmosphere, this is not what many employees wanted. The pressure was passed down to many of the teams, and alot jumped ship.

Such an example is Mark Skaggs who didn't like the pressure, he got pretty pissed off with it so broke NDA and announced Red Alert 3 to the C&C community. He was immediately sacked from his position as lead RTS developer at EALA and dissapeared for a while.

When I mean get over things and move on, I don't mean leave the community. What I mean is to accept what has been done, and realise that C&C is now in EA's hands. I want to show my opinion because I find your remark that Westwood were to blame for their takeover as a blatent insult to the late Westwood Studios, their employees and the community as a whole.

I slay people who hate EA. It might be a good idea to stop hating EA for being what they truly are... a company.

Fine, I hate the people who work there... Or the ones who like caused the death of Westwood and all the "no new games for C&C" deal. ;)

I can't write in both forums? Leave me alone.

One thing I don't understand.. Why the was solded out if Westwood never agreed to be sold out?? I think companies are sold only if both sides agree...

Do you agree to debt collectors taking your stuff when you don't pay your taxes? Do countries both agree with each other before going to war? Do criminals agree to go to jail before they are sentenced?

It's exactly the same in EA's consolidation of Westwood. The only agreement, as I've said before was to spare as many staff as possible.
