TheBlackOut 6 Posted September 9, 2006 Talk to these people. So... .gov is owned by the US... Does that mean if another country wants a .gov.[name government here] wants one, they have to go through some type of US thing? Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted September 10, 2006 So basically, verisign owns most of the common ones...(.com, .net) Share this post Link to post
Nachmore 0 Posted September 10, 2006 naaah not anymore, they all used to be Versign, but it's all open nowadays. .gov is reserved for the US government. A country (say Australia) that wan'ts it's own governemtn sites will use gov.au - i.e. it's own "TLD" - Top Level domain. See the following links: Registrars (the people who register the domains): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registrar wiki TLD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-level_domain Domain names: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name Share this post Link to post
