PS3 Release!

Recommended Posts

The PS3 has been released! Sure, its been out in Japan for like a month or something now, but who cares about them? :P lol..

So I assume at least one of you self respecting Americans has purchased this most holy of holy items? And if not WHY THE HELL NOT!!!

Anyway, I'm just saying, those who have, feel free to awe me with details or its splendour and the delight in which you feel have in owning one. ;)

Negative comments in regard to this holy event will be met with harsh glares... dry292390bbu1.png Also, do not attempt to belittle this most holy of events with news of that other inferior console set for release soon or there be a lot of...dry292390bbu1.png

Funny, at the store I work at, there were literally hundreds of people waiting in line. Kind of sad when we announced that we only had 15 platforms.

I do plan on getting one, but it costs from 500-600 USD, and I just don't have the money. Soon though... very soon. It's funny because literally EVERY store that sells electronics had a massive line outside last night.

I'm getting a Wii. The PS3 is overrated, nor am I paying $600 for a piece of **** console that suffers from the sequel syndrome.

aye, i agree there, PS was great for its time...but Ps is now severly overrated....its not the best anymore...and the price tag for it is totally retarded...600 USD just because it has blu-ray dvd drive....yea screw that..if i wanted blu-ray id spend the money to get it for my 360...but since i seen no advantages of getting it since the dvd drive in my 360 works just fine...i wont get it...so right now...ive got 360 and will be getting a Wii.... Sony will not be getting 600 USD which i can spend to buy Armored Core 4 when its released on 360, and crap for my baby when its born next year

I wonder if the PS3 games will be more expensive because of this stupid blu-ray crap :?

I would say yes, for all consoles...... this is where they make the money by pricing the games really high.

The PS3 costs $1199 NZ dollars, due March 7th 2007 for us Kiwis. At this stage all the games are priced at $119.95 NZ dollars. All subject to change of course.

10 grand for a Playstation 3 is too much. Hell, $600 is too much.

The Wii is going to win. Just like the Indianapolis Colts. Still, MGS4 looks godly. And they do have some nice games on the PS3.

*Cough* Luk3us... Look at my siggie! *cough cough cough*

I wouldn't get too hasty just yet. There are still many factors to benefit all consoles that'll see the most popular break through.

Firstly Christmas, if parents and other family can get hold of one of these consoles, then this could shift a few thousand or so extra machines. However, the Wii will have a head start since it is out worldwide by next month as opposed to the PS3 which won't reach some shores until the middle of next year.

Secondly Europe. Europe is the Sony fan-boy capital of the world. Clear examples can be easily seen. The PSP is Europes biggest ever selling console, and to the other end of the spectrum, the X-Box 360 is in fact one of the slowest selling consoles ever, failing to even surpass the Nintendo DS for sales in the first few weeks.

3rd are the games themselves. While the Hardcore gamers and fan-boys all rush out to be the first to own a brand new spanking console, the extreme bulk of buyers usually have some factors to consider. And this comes down to the games as a whole.

Typical trademark titles such as MGS4, Gran Turismo, and a whole host of other hugely popular mainstream titles will push this console further ahead than the Wii in all eventuality. Since a fat plumber who likes to kill Dinosaurs and get high on mushrooms is something really 1980's.

However the 360 owners have their sole flag flyer named Halo 3. And if you can dare to say it the hugely uninspired, not drafted and especially not ripped off from anyone, the massive intellectual property *cough* Halo RTS *cough*.

At the end of the day, next-gen console gaming isn't a bandwagon I'm gonna be jumping on for a few years yet. I'm happy with my PSP and will be for some years to come. If anything I'd say I've got more use out of it than the PS2 I once had.

But in all honesty, as I get older, all the new bells and whistles don't fascinate me. I'm becoming more of a Retro gamer who seeks the emulators and ROMS, and when I get some money on the side, and a bigger place to live, I'm gonna start collecting old machines from the early days such as Pong machines to the Commodore 64 to Atari's, Amstrads, the Jaguar, SNES, and given a good 15-20 years, the PS3 and X-BOX 360. A few games for each system included to prove their full working order will be perfect.

Retro gaming is so much better than the up to date stuff. There's nothing like a machine that can bring back classic gaming memories as opposed to new stuff, where the only major value it has, is its price tag.
