I'm here to ask you guys your opinions about the Dark Crusade stand-alone expansion for Warhammer 40,000 Dawn Of War. I think it rocks big time. I don't even get the time to play Need For Speed: Carbon or C&C: Generals Zero Hour or LOTR: BFME ROTWK, because I'm so hooked to this game and it's setting.

Stand-alone means it don't need the original game...? Right? Is there a demo? :o

Also nice to see you return. :D

Um doesn't this belong in game discussion?

Yes, I'm getting this game...

Stand alone means just that...

You can play it by itself...

Dawn of War is the best RTS on the market that involves base building. Dark Crusade is my expansion of 2006. For those who actually go to our Petro-Gamers forums or even read my latest article, you will see I have nothing but praise for Dawn of War.

It probably stems from my love of Warhammer 40k anyway. I have all the latest Codex's in .pdf format (taking over 1Gb of space)... and used to have a lot of armies when I was a kid... used to be great fun.

The game is still lacking essential armies though. The Tyrranids, Dark Eldar and the Witch Hunters still need to make an appearence. So I do hope there's at least one more expansion in the works.

My only worry though is that if they do include Tyrranids into the game, all non table top gamers who know little about Warhammer 40k are gonna cry ZOMG Zerg rip-offs! When in fact Starcraft's Zerg were Tyrranid rip-offs inspired by 40k....

Yeah, but I'd recommend Dark Crusade to anyone. It's incredibly well priced and I believe has more content than the main game and it's previous expansion put together. Even if you don't like Warhammer, you can play this and love it! There's no better sci-fi RTS out there, period!

I'm gonna play it in a minute anyway. It's me as the Space Marines taking on the Chaos Space Marines. Just about to take their 18 point strength home territory (Gonna be hard)... Then it's me and the Necrons with half the Planet each.

What a shame that the Necron home Territory is right next to the home territory of the Forces of Chaos... I'll win in 2 turns!! Well I hope so, their territory is at 28 strength.. :haha:

Hmm I love PC Gamer... I got their mag a few days ago and put the CD aside and came back to it today right before I was gonna dl the demo and the demo was on the disc! Hoooray!

Cool game. ;)

Yeah, Warhammer 40k rocks. Too bad I can't get dad to buy me my 5th army: an Ork one. But Dark Crusade does rock, pretty good, but sometimes after the initial frentic capturing moments the game becomes a bloody rush...

P.S. I think Necrons totally pwn all. :D

P.P.S. Speaking of Blizzard games ripping off Warhammer 40k, take a close look at the Tyrant Guard of the Tyranids...

And see that it looks like the Crypt Fiend in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne...

You should play the table-top necrons, they're even better.... Well if you are not against them. You can keep trying to kill and kill again, but if you don't keep hitting those 4, 5, or 6 on your dice in attack phase the opposing player can keep bringing those babies back from the dead so long as he has one guy left in that squad. It's fun to watch frustration. :P

Played it a little from the copy I got from King but I peeked and saw CoH in a bag so my mom just handed to me so I am obsessed with that atm. :P

You couldn't wait 3 more days could you. let's face it, your undeniable urge to build bases will soon be too much to hold back from. You will be playing this religiously soon enough!

Yeah, I already used the Necron army on tabletop... I like them, but I saw that the Tyranids can counter them with hordes of troops... And when you reach 25% or less of your original forces, well, if you're Necron, you have to surrender. Part of the We'll Be Back! rule.

I'm struggling on the campaign of this game now!

I said previously that myself and the Necrons have half of the map. Well after a few days of fierce battles, I'm losing the war. Failure to take their home territory has left me wide open to attack and I'm losing areas to the Necron Menace!

I keep pushing them back and holding my front line territory, then I'll take the territory they attack from. Then they'll attack the territory they just lost and win it back! Then I'll lose the counter attack that turn and it's back to my front line terriroty It's been going on like that solid for the last week or so now!

But things have now taken a bitter turn. I've lost my last 6 turns and in turn 3 territories. The Necrons now have about 70% of the planet and are closing in on my homeland territory. I'm about 10 turns away from defeat! And if they take my Space port territory next turn it could end even sooner!

I don't know whether I can win this campaign now! The Necron scum are gaining ground quickly and the AI has decided to reinforce every territory they take off me making it harder to counter-attack! I'm doooooomed! Doomed I tel ye!!! :furious:

Use space port and conquer the easiest area next to their HQ.. Win and knock their HQ out.. its easy... even on hard...

Get the Space Port ability, then the Fury ability. That will give you x2 moves, anywhere in Kronus. What race are you using anyway? Imperial Guard can easily get screwed by Necrons, their worst enemy though are Tau. The Tau's excellent firepower and range are their best assets against Necrons, but once Necrons get ner, they will be threatened heavily since Necron weaponry deals insane amounts of damage. Focus on Mont' Ka, and use Kauyon only when you're sure that victory is yours, from the start on. Don't use anti-morale tactics too much, focus on ripping the Necrons a new one. Try to get the aforenentioned abilities, and then Forward Base, Increased Manpower, and Industrial Production. These will make your offensives swift, devastating, and enduring since you have the advantage of numbers later on, starting resources, and # of buldings. Necrons though are the best race, they have so much synergy with, well, everything.

I never really played the table top version so therefore I missed out on the three missing armies until a friend who's into the minis pointed the GW site. Yes, I do see where Blizzard got the inspiration for the Zerg.

But yeah, I like the Tau. They're my favorite next to the Imperial Guard (Oh I'll show you how to hold the line bitch!) The Necron need to be toned down a tad in the next patch though, they're nigh unstoppable once they really get going.

Bah. I wish they would integrate the other armies of the sides, like the Salamanders and the Legions of the Damned for the Space Marines...

Dark Crusade cant be that hard. I'm pretty sure people who mastered Emperor: Battle for Dune shouldnt have much trouble, since the territory control game style is the same

oh yeah! I love that game...this is still the best RTS for me until now.

I used Space Marine and took off space port and conquer 2 isles which give you 2 veteran Terminator..then.. well there are no frightend moment anymore, because they are f****** damn powerful.
